Last Friday was the big day that we finally got to go school supply shopping! All of the boys (and Mama too) LOVE this special day.
A few years ago we started several traditions that we all now look forward to, like each boy having his very own list…each boy getting his very own shopping basket at Walmart…then eating lunch at Runza afterward. (Runza is a Nebraska fast food chain that is YUMMY. The boys always read books to earn a free kids meal there…and we save it for our special school supply shopping day. It makes for quite an outing!)
Here’s Elias looking over his list as we climbed into the van to get ready to go.
Oh boy, and here are four boys with four lists and four baskets.
It was tons of fun….and yes it made me tired. :)
Malachi is showing off his HUGE-MONGUOUS french fry at lunch afterward.
The free kids meals came with free ice cream cones afterward too!
When we got home we organized all of our supplies into desks (which the boys rarely actually use for sitting and learning…but they are super for keeping us organized!).
Yes, of course Mama had to get a few supplies for herself! I couldn’t resist the girly folder (even though of course a plain ol’ green one would have done the job)…and since I needed new scissors…I thought pink handled ones would be nice! Also…that pack of sharpie-type markers was only $3!! A teacher/mama needs sharpies!!
The boys declared this day, “Like one of the best days ever!!”
I’d have to agree! :)
Happy to be at Home is hosting Homeschool Wednesday….you should check it out!

Oh super yippee fun!
How exciting! They all look so sweet.
It’s funny looking at them in Walmart–course I think it’s funny seeing mine in Walmart too. Get used to see them at home (even in pics) and it’s odd to see them in a big ole store!
Thanks for sharing your precious boys and their fun!

How fun! I used to love buying school supplies when I was a kid. Going back to school would not be nearly as exciting without that new set of pencil crayons.:)
Your boys are just the cutest!
Thanks for sharing,
Joyce

Oh- That looks like such fun! I will have to start this tradition in my house! We don’t have a Runza here (I have no idea what to compare it to), but I am putting this on my “to do” list for next week!
Thanks for sharing your fun day!

Hey, maybe if I bought pink handled scissors for myself the boys wouldn’t steal mine all of the time. I like the tradition of making a school list and shopping for it. Sometimes when we home school we forget school shopping is one of the few exciting things about “going to school”. I made lists today and handed them out!

How fun! I absolutely love shopping for school supplies. I actually just blogged about it earlier tonight before popping in here. Your blog is very nice and your family looks so sweet. I hope you have a great school year!!
Blessings,
Elinor

That is a very good idea to make the back to school supply day into a fun day to look forward to :-) I really need to look over our supplies to see what we really do need vs what we want.

I know this is YEARS late, but I just searched your site for a runza recipe and this is the only post that came up! My husband’s from Nebraska but we live in PA, so I make our runzas at home. I’ve combined a few recipes for the dough and filling, and adapted them to use real ingredients: whole wheat, butter, lacto-fermented sauerkraut, and homemade cream of mushroom sauce. Have you ever tried to make them? I used to love to stop by the Runza restaurant when we’re in NE, but now I think their Runzas are pretty gross. I don’t know if that’s because we’re eating better food, or because they changed their recipe. Either way, I make huge batches at home, but they disappear instantly. :)
