At the mention of my family’s Oatmeal Rebellion, many of you piped in with your ideas for quick and easy breakfast ideas. You shared some great suggestions, which made me excited to mention some more. You can NOT have too many helpful breakfast ideas in your back pocket. Although I don’t really recommend keeping your actual breakfast in your back pocket. That would be a bad situation on so many levels.
While Sunday mornings are a bit crazy as we all try to get out the door looking halfway presentable…I’m going to also venture to say that every day can be hectic at breakfast time if we don’t have a plan. My kids are hungry from the moment they wake up. One of my boys would actually eat my leg if I didn’t shove an egg in his mouth as he rolls out of bed. He is that hungry. You’d think I didn’t just feed him four helpings of dinner the night before (and a snack before bed).

One of my best recommendations for us to keep our Breakfast Time Organized is to plan ahead. But my best, best recommendation is that if at all possible…make breakfast the night before.
If I can, I bake our next day’s breakfast muffins or bagels or quick bread while I’m making dinner the night before. Or, I’ll start my pancakes or waffles to soaking. Or, I’ll mix up a Breakfast Casserole to have ready to bake the next morning.
It’s easy really…to make breakfast the night before while I’m cooking dinner. I’m already in the cooking mode. I’m already making a mess. Might as well make a bit of a bigger mess and get breakfast baked up too, right?
Then, after dinner, we get the whole kitchen clean (LOVE our Kitchen Chore Chart!) and put our breakfast on the table for the next morning (unless it needs to go into the fridge because leaving out a raw Breakfast Casserole would be about as bad as putting your breakfast in your back pocket).
You’ll find links to all of my Bread and Breakfast recipes on this page, but I thought I’d highlight my favorite “make-ahead breakfasts” for you here:
- Giant Breakfast Cookies
- Honey Whole Wheat Bagels
- Homemade Poptarts
- Chocolate Chocolate Chip Muffins (or any muffin on this page)
- Mini Apple Pies
- Applesauce Bread
- Pancake and Sausage Muffins
- Breakfast Cake
- Breakfast Burritos
- Easy Breakfast Casserole
Add some fruit or a smoothie or a quick scrambled egg to round out these meals! Planning ahead and cooking ahead can save money and help your family to eat much healthier too. It’s much better than letting my son eat my leg, is it not?

Heather
Thanks for this opportunity. I was just looking at your breakfast cookie recipe and was wondering if you have ever substituted plain kefir for buttermilk? We make our own kefir, and I’ve been looking for ways to use it in cooking as well as drinking it.
Yes, you can definitely use kefir instead of buttermilk in this recipe. I do it all the time when I’m low on buttermilk!
Thanks for those make ahead breakfast recipe links!
I never thought of making breakfast ahead of time, What a great idea! With 6 kids and a husband, breakfast is always so crazy on Sunday mornings. I will typically give the kids some cereal and my husband and I will skip breakfast which only makes us hungry an hour later.

Breakfast is always the meal that just gets shoved aside when it comes to creative meal planning, so thanks for the great ideas!
Ooh! All of the above sound wonderful! My husband I know is tired of tripping over the bag of wheat I currently have leaning against the kitchen wall because I can’t seem to find room for it anywhere else in the kitchen — and I have a big kitchen! :)
Thank you for a chance to win : )

Very excited to try some of these recipes. My 2 year old is ready to eat before I can get around each morning. At this time, he is mostly eating oatmeal with applesauce or cereal due to this poor planning. Hopefully this will help me. I love the ideas of doing breakfast at dinner time the night before. Thanks!
Thank you for the great giveaways!
I can always use more ideas for getting organized.
awesome! Thanks for all the ideas!!!
Great giveaway! I <3 organizing! Thanks!
Our favorite breakfast-Homemade McGriddles
Easy to take in the car if needed
sausage patties (homemade turkey ones if you are so inclined-can be made the night before)
Banana Snack-Cakes
Mix dry’s: 1C flour (I use half whole/half white)
2 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
In blender: 1 really ripe banana
1/4 C real maple syrup
2 T Oil (whatever kind you use)
1 egg
1/4 C milk (whatever kind you use)
blend wets and stir into dry’s. This should be a thickish pancake batter. Add a little more milk if needed and cook like regular pancakes….we also like to eat these plain for a snack because the syrup is inside so there is no sticky mess. Also good spread with peanut butter.
Great giveaway! Thanks for the chance:)
This is an awesome giveaway!! I love the thought of being organized!!
I love your blog…one of my favorite things to read each week!
I didn’t plan ahead for breakfast today, so made a quick couscous:
2 c milk
2 t honey
Warm this on the stove until boiling, then add
2 c couscous
1/4 c hemp seeds
1 t cinnamon
and 1/2 c dried cranberries.
Cover for five minutes, fluff before serving.
That sounds AWESOME!! Thanks for the idea!!
Thanks so much for the giveaway opportunity!
Just started following your site! Great content!
I love the idea of planning breakfast at dinner! I’ll definitely give that a try!

What a great giveaway- thank you!
I just happened on your website and I am LOVING it!!! I am taking all your tips and tricks for efficiently running my home to heart so that we can have lots more babies :)
I consider myself to be pretty organized, but I can always tweak and get more ideas and be more efficient. I just got a cook by the month cookbook at the library and would love to check out your links! Thanks for sharing them.
I love organizing. I am a nerd when it comes to that. So I would love that book! Thanks for the great breakfast ideas. We have recently stopped eating cereal. Two weeks without the stuff! So we are in need of more ideas.
That would be so fantastic! I’m drowning here in Missouri!!
Thanks for the fun giveaways!
That book looks great!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Would love the organization help. We moved a while back from a 1800sq ft home in another state that is still for sale after a few years to a 800sq ft rental in the country. It is really hard to keep organized with no storage space. I have found that the gamma seals and buckets from Azure store grain, rice, oats, and beans quite well out in an old bus that we are allowed to use part of. Thank you for all of your ideas and help.
You are always so helpful to me! Thanks for the giveaways!
that food looks delicious, great giveaway!
My problem is I try to “organize” my kitchen then my 1 year old does her “organizing” :) I don’t guess that’s what you mean about organizing. Probably about organizing meals and menus, which I need help with too. :) Thanks for the opportunity.
I always look forward to your wonderful “make ahead” recipes! Thanks for the giveaways!
love your website.. great recipes and tips
This is sooo right where I am at in my journey right now. I’m ready to put some form of organization to our meals — to use convenience food less — have a system in place for success. I’m really hoping I win this plus system in particular and I’m making a decision to find some time to learn the Say Mmmm website. Thanks soo much for the chance to win such great prizes.
Thanks for the breakfast ideas!
Wow! I’d love to win one of the books. Right now I’m trying to de-clutter the toys and find permanent places for everything. This would be a great help!
I love the make-ahead breakfast ideas. New organization ideas are always great–thanks for the fun giveaways!

I love the term “clutter rehab”. Although I stay pretty organized, this time of year with three kids throws that concept right out the window! I love all things breakfast, thankfully my kiddos LOVE breakfast. They very seldomly pass up on the first meal of the day! Their new favorite is my homemade yogurt with honey, homemade granola, fresh fruit, topped with shredded coconut! The best part about it,all the ingredients are at hands reach and quick to prepare! No more telling me “my oatmeal is too hot”, when its time to run to the bus stop! Thanks Laura, I look forward to your emails everyday.?
I could really use these books!!
Thanks for the opportunity.
Boy would I love that book! I could use some help in a few rooms of my house! Can anyone say Laundry/ sewing/ scrapbook/ storage / drop all room!

Oh, dear, I am in need of serious help with decluttering! I’m working on my craft room right now, but the rest of the house has a long way to go! My husband would love if I won the Clutter Rehab book. ;)
Breakfast has always been my least favorite meal to prepare. I’m just not a morning person. I can’t wait to start making breakfast the night before to make my life easier…and keep my family happy!
Great giveaways!
I would love to win this!!
Great giveaway. Thank you for all that you do to help us in sooooo many areas.
I can’t wait to look at the breakfast cookie recipe. It’s so much easier to grab a “cookie” than a bowl of cereal or oatmeal. Thanks for the opportunity to win either prize, I would love them both. Am already a fan of the regular Say MMM site and have considered upgrading my membership.
Oh what a great giveaway! :)
Thanks Laura for all you do! I would love to win!

New to your site and LOVE it! Would love to win something! Wouldn’t anyone? Lol!
I make a breakfast cassserole that uses crescent rolls. I’d love to find a way to avoid using these. Do you think it’s possible to use the dough from your cinnamon roll recipe and just roll it into a rectangle for the bottom of the casserole? Eggs and sausage go on top.
I would SO love to win any of these great prizes :-)
I visited Organizing Junkie
Any suggestions or help with organization would be a definite plus for me!!! Thanks for a great giveaway.

Would love to win this one.
Just took a quick tour around Say Mmm and Organizing Junkie, looks fun. I just made your breakfast cookies and they are really good. Now to put them to the test with my picky teenager. Thanks :)
I have been a subscriber to Organizing Junkie for a while now and she has helped me so much. I am loving your blog as well, I just found you a few weeks ago and you have some great tips and offer some wonderful insight into meal planning and delicious recipes. Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestions on breakfast. I was just talking to a friend this morning about how hard that meal is for me to get done. :-)
I would love to win!
This all looks like some very practical and helpful stuff… thanks!!!
Thanks for the easy breakfast ideas!
I’m working on getting past the cold cereal breakfast thing. Too many days of oatmeal or cornmeal mush didn’t help much either. I need to go slow and PLAN.
Visited four other sites and left comments.
Looks like fun stuff. Hope I win one!
This sounds great. Thanks!
I came here from Happy Housewife, and can’t wait to visit all the other sites and get inspired for a major decluttering and organizing!
I love the idea of breakfast cookies, but am wondering – when you soak the grains in buttermilk overnight, do you refridgerate that?
No, I just leave the flour/oats/butter/buttermilk combo soaking on the countertop overnight. Otherwise, there’s no way I’d be able to stir it the next morning…it’d be too stiff. Even while being on the countertop, it sometimes is pretty stiff the next morning. I often put all the ingredients into the food processor and let it do the hard work for me!
I was in my reader and several of the blogs listed are in my reader! Either way, I do hope to win one. thanks for hosting such an awesome giveaway!
What a nice giveaway! I already utilize the free version of Say Ummm and love that site!
Would love to win-thanks for the chance!
I just turned my best friend on to your site, and we’re both tickled with your sense of humor. Personally, I hate to eat breakfast, but I’m hoping to teach my boys better habits than I have myself. :)

new to your site and love it! Can’t wait to try the breakfast casserole!
New to your site, and I must say that I’m going to be making the breakfast cookies this weekend. We all get up pretty early to start our day togehter and because of that, we all get hungry around 9am. This will make a great morning snack!
Thanks for all the breakfast tips. I haven’t made breakfast cookies in a while…
I have enjoyed Laura’s site for a while now, and I’m glad she told us about yours. I definitely need help getting menu planning going. I don’t mind grocery shopping, but even with a lot of groceries in the house I often struggle with what to cook for dinner.
I definately NEED to be in clutter rehab!!!!
Heaven knows I need to be more organized! thanks for the opportunity for the give-away and the wonderful recipes you post. We’ve tried many and they are great.
The more kids I have had the harder it has been to stay organized, especially when it comes to clutter! This looks great!
I love your recipes. Every time I try one I am always so doubtful. Then my family loves the results. I started with the applesauce bread (and, yes, I doubled the recipe). My husband loves the breakfast burritos. We are currently trying to reorganize our apartment, we need more home school space, so any advise would be great.
Love the idea of making breakfast the night before. My kids are tired of eating frozen waffles and could use a change. I would love to get more organized especially in the kitchen!
thanks for the giveaway! i LOVE organization books! :)
I love your recipes…healthy, easy delicious….what more could one ask for?
What a great giveaway…I desperately need to get organized!
Love the breakfast ideas! AND the giveaways! My life could use a little organization.

Can always use clutter help! : )
Can always use a little help to de-clutter!
I refer to your website all the time for recipes. Thank you for the giveaways.
Any help with organization is always appreciated.
i just love the thought of being organized again cause for some reason the older our 4 kids have gotten(16,16,18, 20) the less organized my home has been. my quote use to be “its only lost if i cant find it” can once again be said because of the help i get from this site and others!!!! Thanks
I would love to learn about decluttering.
I’m going to try your mini apple pies. They look delicious!
I so need to grow in this area. I try to do oatmeal at least 3 times a week, but so many times I forget to soak it. I’m not huge on oatmeal anyway, but it is so much more palatable when it’s soaked. Making it with dinner is such a great idea, but my kids would be bugging me to eat it for snack before bed. Hmmm, I’ll have to think about that one.
This looks like such a big help! I would love to win! Thanks for the opportunity – Kandace
Looks great! Thanks Laura
this would be such a big help.
Thanks for the chance to win! I would love, love to read Organizing Junkie’s book!
My kitchen is a disaster!
Ok, so just this week I was getting ready to get breakfast ready and pulled out my homemade baking mix to make pancakes and had the HUGE brainstorm that “DUH!” (I only say that to myself) – why don’t I just mix one double recipe of waffle batter while I’m mixing a double recipe of pancake batter and make both pancakes and waffles at the same time so I’m only standing there one morning instead of two waiting to flip/refill the griddle/waffle iron! Boy, I thought I was genius – ok, so I know better than that. But now you had to go and have the brilliant idea to cook breakfast while I’m cooking dinner the night before!!! Genius, I tell ya! Think I’m coordinated enough to do waffles, pancakes, and dinner at the same time?!?!? Hmmm…. yeah – I need some help in the organization department! ha, ha!
Love the idea of making breakfast the night before! Im also desperately in need of some organization help.
Thanks for the giveaway! I could use some organization!!
Oh, I could certainly use some organization de-cluttering at my house…:)
Oh, I’d love to win that Clutter Rehab book… but my husband would love for me to win it even more!!!

There are some good ideas—I usually just get up and fix cereal or oatmeal, easy stuff, but the casseroles and muffins are a good alternative.
I am forever looking for different ways of decluttering/organizing. One of these days I’ll find the ‘perfect’ method that I will actually use! Thanks for the giveaway!
I’d love to have a copy of both books!
Would love to win any of the above- actually attempting to become better organized right now.
seems like we are always dealing w/ clutter ……. w/ 6 kids I need some help! PLEASE pick me!!!!! Good luck to all but I NEED this book!!! LOL
Organization please!

I would love to win a copy. Thanks for the giveaway!
I’d love some more organization!!! DH and I work full-time and have 2 boys. I try to avoid processed food as much as I can, but sometimes I do have to break out the evil Hamburger Helper! (Acutally only DH and 1 son eat it, the younger one and I get something else!)
My biggest breakfast challenge is to actually get up on time so I don’t SKIP breakfast trying to make it to work on time. If I have 2 minutes to spare, I make toast to eat in the car. I really could stand to be a bit more organized so each of us can have a nutritious breakfast. Thanks! I’ll try the breakfast cookies for sure!
Would love a chance to win – I need all of the help I can get!!

Like bake the night before to serve on a school morning? I think that’s what’ll have to work at my home. Thanks for offering us a giveaway. This I need!!
Yes, it works great to bake the night before and warm up slices as necessary!

I just found your website. It is my new favorite! Just started in January decluttering my house and eating more healthy. I am soi glad I stumbled upon your website.
Drowning in others clutter. Finally able to get my kids to clean out a lot of their clutter. Now it is all piled in the dining room as I need to sort through what can be consigned, donated, trashed, etc!
Love the breakfast ideas. We especially love muffins!
Some of the breakfast recipes look great. Can’t wait to try some of them. Thanks for the chance to win!
Great giveaways! We are trying to revamp breakfast at our house. We have been in a rut and if I don’t serve a good, protein-filled breakfast, my three-year-old will ask for food EVERY.TWENTY.MINUTES until lunch time.
Well, any of those ideas would be a heck of a lot better than the two slices of toast i usually have in a morning! I’m so lazy first thing, so i love your idea of making breakfast when i do dinner!

I’ve been trying to come up with a “system”. I recently purchased a calendar white board but this is only scratching the surface!
I’ve been working hard on organizing all aspects of our home and life! Making some progress, but feel overwhelmed and these eBooks and systems look like outstanding ways to get there! Thanks for the give aways!!!
Oh wow, how we ever need help with planning our breakfasts! I have two teens and two littles and those teens just don’t eat breakfast at all before school. Thanks for a chance to win!
I am thankful to see that there is so much help available to those of us who struggle with daily life! I have almost reached a point of resignation that my kitchen will always be chaos, and supper will never be ontime…at least that was until I came across the crockpot website and the orgjunkie website! I am so HOPEFUL that I will become a more organized wife, mother, and daycare owner!!!
We recently started eating more whole foods and using Nourishing Traditions as our cookbook of choice. It was hard at first, but you are right that with alittle organization things fall into place.
These resources look wonderful. I’ve never heard of them. When did your giveaway end? If it’s still going, I’d love to be included. Thanks, Kathy
Hi Laura,
I am still curious about how many muffins you give your boys for breakfast. I have 9 boys and they would eat 10 or more if I let them. Is there something you make with muffins to make it more filling?
Typically my boys eat 3-6 muffins each. I try to load them with fruit to help round it out, and often eggs too if I have time. :)
