Dairy, Soy and Gluten Free Chocolate Chips

Usually, I make my own chocolate chips from sucanat and either butter or coconut oil…making for some much healthier chocolate chips! But I really like having pre-made chocolate chips on hand in the freezer for chocolate chip emergencies. Life can be full of chocolate chip emergencies.

My preferred purchased chocolate chips are:  Enjoy Life Dairy, Soy, and Gluten Free Chocolate Chips. I can only find these at Amazon…and then I can’t find them very often because they are snatched up quickly. I’ve had soy-free chocolate chip conversations with some of you in the past…so wanted to let you know really quickly that there are about 14 cases of these Enjoy Life Dairy, Soy, and Gluten Free Chocolate Chips left right now at Amazon if you’re interested in grabbing some! (There were 15…but well…one is on it’s way to my house now.)

I love using these Enjoy Life Dairy, Soy, and Gluten Free Chocolate Chips when I make Chewy Granola Bars…and just this week, I used some to make Chocolate Chip Muffins (recipe found in our What to Do With the Kids in Your Kitchen eBook).

Ever have a chocolate chip emergency? What’s your favorite kind of chocolate chip? Ever tried making your own homemade chocolate chips?

That’s a good price! I think that at my Kroger they are 4.99 a pack.

I can always find them at Whole Foods. I have gotten them by the case from here:

They are the only chocolate chips I can use do to a dairy and soy allergies in the family.

These are the only chocolate chips we use because of allergies. No one can ever tell they are allergy friendly!!!

Those are my favorite as well. I can get them at Meijers (a MI chain), but the price used to be only $3.50 and now are $4.99 so I don’t buy them unless they are on sale.

Those are the ones we use, too. At one point, I had to eat gluten, dairy and soy free. THese were a treat by the handful.

I tried making your chocolate chips and they didn’t turn out right. They tasted amazing, but when I put them in cookies they melted so much that I kind of ended up with chocolate cookies and not chocolate chip cookies, you know what I mean? Any suggestions? Thanks.

The same thing happened to me! They melted and even leaked all over the pan…

Yeah, you can see a picture of what my chocolate chip cookies look like with homemade chips here: https://www.heavenlyhomemakers.com/healthy-treat-for-today-whole-wheat-chocolate-chip-cookies.

I usually use them for brownies or trail mix instead…although we still eat the ugly cookies too. :)

So I realize this might be asking ALOT….but could you possibly create a resource page with a list that includes your brands of choice in products. I have also been moving along on stocking my pantry and was wondering the other day what all Laura has in her stocked pantry so maaaayyyybbbeee you could do a PANTRY page that has your stockings and preferred brand.(Oh but don’t forget fridge and freezer items) See then you could kill two birds with one stone. That’s not asking too much is it :):).

This is SUCH a great idea. It will take a lot of time, so no promises on when I’ll get this done…but thank you for letting me know that it would be so helpful to you! I’ll work on it!

I just ordered these! Is there a post somewhere about why you prefer the soy free chocolate chips?

No, I haven’t written much about why it’s best to avoid soy. I NEED to…it’s on “my list”. :)

Leigh, we avoid soy mainly because of the estrogen, but there are other problems with it as well.

We have to do things a bit differently here in Albania. We are grateful to have any kind of chips. This is actually a comment for the ch. chocolate chip muffins. We have a one and a half year old that loves them! This time I wanted to make them a bit healthier so I chopped up dried apricots and walnuts and added them in. They were amazing!!!!

I use Cocoa Camino (http://www.lasiembra.com/) cocoa and chocolate chips. They are fair trade, organic and sweetened with cane sugar. The ingredients are cane sugar, cocoa liquor, cocoa butter, vanilla extract. I love the fact that they are a whole food and that the producers gets a fair price for their product.

I love this brand of choco chips as well! It is the only one I will use. Thankfully I can find them in the organic aisle of my local Giant grocery store in PA. Lately they have been coming with a coupon for $1 off 3 of their choco bars, of which the dark chocolate is THE BEST chocolate I have ever had! Love it! Here’s a choco torte (lava cake) that I made with it: http://start-from-scratch-blog.blogspot.com/2011/02/sneaky-valentines-dinner.html
