How Many Calories in a Recipe?

I have been excited to welcome back Say Mmm as a sponsor here at Heavenly Homemakers. Say Mmm is a site that can help you with meal planning and grocery list making – all for free! Plus, I’m excited to see that they’ve recently completed and launched a brand new feature on their site that is sure to be very helpful to many of you.

I’m often asked how many calories are in my recipes. My answer is always:  I have no idea. Counting calories isn’t something I usually talk about because not all calories are created equal. Still, if you want to know a calorie count on my recipes, it would be nice to offer a suggestion of how to figure it out.

Well, here it is! Check out this new page at Say Mmm. To see how it works, copy and paste the following URL into the box on their site:  https://www.heavenlyhomemakers.com/pancake-and-sausage-muffins

Next, click “GO!” and immediately you’ll see a grocery list for everything you need to make my Pancake Sausage Muffins, plus a break down of the calories and other information you might be looking for. Isn’t that nifty? I can’t believe how fast it is. And how handy that the grocery list is all laid out and ready to go too!

I encourage you to sign up to use the Say Mmm site – it’s free and a great site to aid you in kitchen organization!

That importing from a URL tool is amazing. My biggest problem is always adding things manually.

OH MY GOSH! That is fabulous! I am trying to lose weight, but I refuse to give up my whole food cooking. Now I’ll be able to stay on track pretty well!!!

Thank you for this info!!! Last year I started trying to keep track of how many calories I ate because I needed to lose weight. I can’t wait to use this!

Wow, I was impressed! I had to check it out with a list of ingredients from one of my own recipes, and was surprised with how fast it was!
Now, I’d love to see a website that does just that, BUT also has the price quickly estimated. Do you know of any such website?

Brianna, definitely agree with you on the price estimate. Prices vary considerably depending on the place and store, but we are working on a way to give a general estimate.

Wow, that’s pretty amazing! The pricing tool would be so difficult to program, I’m sure, but wonder if there’d be a way to integrate with an app so it just allowed you to do something with the bar codes? Just an idea. Will definitely check this site out, thanks!

Pancake and Sausage Muffins – 96grams of FAT? Could that POSSIBLY be accurate? I’ve never seen a recipe with that much fat content. Am I missing something quite obvious?

Yeah, that does sound like a lot. It would be divided by 12 muffins though, which is 8 grams per muffin. Still though, since this is turkey sausage I wouldn’t think it would be that high per muffin. Maybe the program didn’t recognize the recipe as including TURKEY sausage and not PORK sausage?

Yes, you have to divide by the number of servings, and sometimes it will pick that up automatically if it says the servings. Otherwise just click the link next to servings on the page to enter the number and have it dived for you.

It does recognize the turkey sausage. Here are the top 3 contributors to fat…butter 55g, milk 27g, turkey sausage 24g.

I think what we can do is add a feature that you could see the breakdown of other nutrients similar to how we do the calories.

        Sorry…milk is 7g, not 27g

We added the feature now that you can see the breakdown of other nutrients and posted about it on our blog at: http://blog.saymmm.com/post/13840780798/what-makes-a-recipe-healthy-or-not

MyFitnessPal.com is also a great site. You can enter the ingredients in your recipe and it with not only show the calorie count but also the nutrition facts. Pretty awesome.
