Last week I was reading a book to the boys in which the child was on a search for a treasure chest. When the child finally found the chest and opened it up to reveal the treasure…it was full of toys and doo-dads. The child was so excited!
Me? I’d have been a little disappointed. All that work to find a treasure chest full of doo-dads?
Now, if I’d have worked hard and searched and found a treasure chest full of kitchen utensils…baking stones…stainless steel bowls…yummy ingredients? THAT would have felt I’d found a treasure. Or what about a chest full of chocolate fruit?! Or maybe books!!!
Everyone’s idea of a treasure is different.
My question for you today is: What would your idea of a treasure be? If you searched and searched and found a treasure chest…what would you want to be inside?!

Time….
cake decorating supplies, scrapbooking supplies, scraps of fabric, books (and time to read them), and some chocolate/fruit…or maybe chocolate COVERED fruit :) yeah!!!
Wow! Great question. I’m feeling kind of introspective, so the treasure that came to mind tonight would be a written history of my life so far. Journals, if you will–the ones that I wish I would’ve kept. I feel like I remember so little!
(I also agree with Jennifer–TIME would be awesome!)
Books, lots and lots of books!
Books. Or wild salmon.
The ability to love like Jesus.
My treasure chest would contain an on-call, all expenses paid nanny for the times I need to have 10 minutes to myself, or try to talk on the phone with my mother.
Books.
Yarn. And then more yarn. Sprinkled in with some gift certificates for Home Depot. mmmm….
A kitchen MAKEOVER!! (Hey, I can dream big, right?)
My daughter says “jewels and toys”, my hubby says “money.” I have to say I agree with my hubby. I have a lot of family who are going through VERY hard finacial times, and I wish I could help more. This would do it.
Wisdom…
I would hope the chest would be full of wisdom, time and a device to plug into your children to tell what they are thinking and feeling!
Hmmmmm . . . books or blank journals or that new Nikon D80 that I have been wanting. {grin} But really I have all I want and need right now. I am so blessed.
I just stumbled on your sight looking for a whole wheat hamburger bun recipe. The buns are rising as I type! I am so glad to have found your blog. I read your about us section and the way you described how your family lives and eats is just like our family! I am so excited to find a fellow Christian mommy who has many of the same interests and passions that I have! What a great God honoring blog you have! {grin}
For me, it would be a treasure chest of yummy yarn with time to knit!
I want to say all the nice things like everyone else…wisdom, time, craft items, etc…but honestly I would love money to pay off my student loans and my house….so that I could enjoy other things in life with more pleasure and less stress. For instance, I would love to have a family outing where I didn’t fret over whether or not my husband should be working overtime instead of spending time with his kids.
Memories!!! I have a horrible memory and would give anything to have a treasure chest FULL of memories of my family and my babies!
Wow. On the one hand, I’d want a big load of wisdom and the ability to help others.
But then, the human part of me would just DROOL over a treasure chest full of drawing supplies and art books. And then the time and talent to make the most of them!
Or… that chest full of kitchen goodies. That’s to drool over too.
What a thought-provoking question!
I’m new to your blog and am enjoying it so far. Came here in search of other Christian women who were pursuing “real food” as a way of life. We havne’t made any changes yet but hope to make small changes over a long period of time. I have been reading through Nina Planck’s “Real FOod” upon the recommendation of a friend after asking her for input on my son’s excema, allergies and asthma. IN fact, all my kiddos have excema and allergies. Two of the three have asthma.
To answer your question, don’t know everything that would be in my treasure chest, but dark chocolate would certainly be among whatever else was in there.
Half a pastured cow, a bunch of raw milk, sprouted flour, coconut oil, and pastured butter! Ha! All of the real food that we can’t afford right now. And probably some vintage craft supplies. And a bacon chocolate bar, because that sounds like a stupendous idea.
Family History information for ancestors back in the 1700’s. That would be a reallllllly bigggg treasure, and one of great worth. Money sounds good also, as that would buy all the other things I want – travel to visit where ancestors lived, vacations, raw organic foods, retirement, and stuff to spoil and visit grandchildren – money can be used for just about anything, except getting the correct family history records right at your finger tips.
YARN! Lots and lots of colorful wool yarn!
Hope! Thank goodness we found Pandora’s Box. Leave it open and let it out!
Your blog is a “treasure chest” open to your readers. By reflecting upon your daily life, you inspire us to pay attention and appreciate the blessings we have in our own. Thank you for sharing with us. Love you, Laura.
kitchen utensils would be fantastic!!! books too. (i have a list if you’re interested) and chocolate could be on top too!
Wisdom, yes definitely. The other thing I would want is a book of 100 thousand ideas of things to do with my boys…. wait, I’m kinda reading it now. I really am thankful for your blog! With three little men of my own, aged 6,5, & 3.5….. YUP, I feel like you walked the path before me, and I get to avoid the landmines. Thank you SO much.
Jesus is my treasure! My heart beats for Him!(Mt. 6:21)
How BIG is the treasure chest?
I love how many people said wisdom or love or something for someone else. Good things.
God gives me wisdom and love so those are covered….
Hmm….I would settle for some cute underpants that don’t have holes or a new shirt that doesn’t have baby spit up on it and a cute apron to keep the new shirt from getting flour on it. If the box is big enough I’d like a Nutrimill grinder please, and also an envelope containing enough money to buy raw milk and cheese for a year and the information of where to buy these things near me. That’s all.
Fun to think about. If only God gave me free undies! (my husband would be so thankful! ha ha!)
Hopefully I would find many bolts of vintage fabric to sew with! :)
