How I (the mom) Have a Stuffed Stocking

I actually can’t take complete credit for this idea. It was sort of mutually figured out by my friend Anne and me. And she’s really the smart one.

stocking

One year we were laughing about what our husbands have stuffed into our stockings last minute discussing that our husbands really don’t do a great job of filling our Christmas stockings for us. It’s not because our husbands are not thoughtful…or that they don’t care about us…or that they don’t like to give us gifts.

It just seems that in the big picture of working 50+ hour work weeks to provide for their family and chopping wood for their fireplaces and spending time with their children and helping out with different needs at church…filling our Christmas stockings isn’t very high on our husbands’ radar.

And that’s 100% completely okay with us.

But we both still think it’s fun to have stuff in our stockings on Christmas morning. Plus, our kids might notice if all the stockings are fat and ours is hanging there all limp and skinny.

So…Anne and I fill each other’s stockings. We’ve been doing this now for about five years.

It is a blast.

I know what Anne likes and needs for her kitchen or for her cold feet or for her school time with her girls. She knows what I like and need for my kitchen or for my dry hands or for my “I love jars” obsession.

It completely takes the pressure off of our husbands and they LOVE IT.

We make things or find things for each other inexpensively. We’ve never set a price limit on our stocking filling project…because we both think alike when it comes to money and neither of us spends very much. A few dollars at most.

Then we wrap each item individually and hand each other a bag full of goodies sometime before Christmas. Christmas Eve…we each dump our stuff into our stockings to be opened Christmas morning.

I’m telling you…this is always SO much fun!!!

And did I mention that our husbands love it?

I know that some husbands like filling a stocking for their wives.

But if yours is one that doesn’t…forward this post to one of your friends and let the fun begin!!!

Unfortunatly, I do not have any friends, so no one can stuff my stocking–if I had one, which I don’t. Sounds like a fun idea though! Hope you get some goof stuff this year! I have 3 kids and a husband to deal with ast christmas time.

Ok, trying really hard not to be jealous of you two right now! :-) AND thanks for the reminder – for the last two years I’ve completely forgotten about poor Allan’s stocking. (I’m blaming it on being frugal, but I don’t think he’s buying it). The kids were bummed with and for Daddy, that Santa didn’t leave him anything. I’m going to figure out how to make up for that this year. :-)

So clever! I don’t know if any of my friends have husbands who are as clueless as mine though when it comes to stockings.

About 8 years ago we drew names and all got to do one person’s stocking. My mom ended up doing most of it still because my brothers and dad are lazy! So now my sister and I do each others and we both pitch in for my mom’s and our dad pays us. I also have to do my kids and my hubby, but I don’t mind. My favorite part of Christmas is my stocking!

Aww, I love this idea! Good for you guys for thinking outta the box. Stockings are so fun — pity to have an empty one!

I’m going to hang onto that idea. Now, all I need help with is getting my husband to even LIKE Christmas! :-(

This is a great idea! (Too bad I don’t have a close friend nearby.) I actually like filling my own stocking. (I’m sure it’s the last thing on my hubby’s mind.) It’s an excuse to give myself candy; last year I needed socks so I put those in my stocking; I wanted a new color of lipstick, put that in my stocking etc. And I can match with my husband: Santa can give us each a bag of candy and a package of razors. ;-)

I love this idea! I have heard of it before, but never really thought about doing it. I think I might mention it to my sister to see if she might like to try it this year. Thanks!

My sister-in-law always spends Christmas with us and started stuffing my stocking 25 years ago and then I started stuffing hers. We collect things all year long that the other might enjoy. It’s so much fun.

What a terrific idea! My husband is a little gift-out-of-it, so I’m sure he’d be on board for this stocking idea. Thanks for sharing.

What fun! My husband and I are on and off about stockings for each other. Sometimes it’s the only “gifting” we do for each other, and then we really have to get creative.

Love this idea! Hubby never quite remembers, though he is great with other gifts that don’t fit into a stocking. Claims he is going to do better this year. We will see… He’s already purchased toys for the boys!

I wonder if this December, you might post a list of what has gone into Anne’s stocking (or what you have put into hers). I don’t have an Anne, but I do have a husband and I KNOW he would love a list of frugal mom-stocking ideas!
