My boys got to plan the meals this week!
I showed them everything we had in the freezer and pantry and fridge…and they started coming up with meal suggestions left and right! We wrote them all down…then I helped them decide which day to have what…and reminded them to choose a fruit or veggie to go with the meals.
They had SO much fun! And what a great way to teach them about balanced meal planning!
Now, I guess I get to go bake some cinnamon rolls… :)

What on earth are “green smoothies”? Do you make them with kiwifruit? Haven’t had cinnamon rolls for years – my poor grandma is so senile now that when I asked her for the recipe she couldn’t even remember what they were. It’s a great idea to get the kids involved in meal planning – I am going to give it a try.

LOVE how you posted this! :) Super cute and catchy. Thanks for the links.
I also think having your kids plan the meals was a great idea. They did a nice job!
I’m familiar w/ green smoothies-pretty healthy. Good for you.
Do you have the recipe for Taco Potatoes? Sounds interesting.
Thanks for sharing! Have a great week & Easter!

Green smoothies are apples, bananas, and any greens you want to throw in…I’m using spinach leaves. Sounds wierd, I know…but really, the fruit overshadows the spinach taste and the smoothies are sweet and good. (If they don’t quite taste sweet enough…I’ll add a little agave nectar!) And they’re green! Which is fun for St. Patty’s Day!

My kids regularly contribute to the menu planning process, but they usually just choose their favourites. It is such a great idea to get them to choose using what is in the house, thanks for the tip.

I have a “kids choice” week too. They each have a day that they get to choose a meal. They all go through the pantry with momma, help write the grocery list, and then they get to do the thing they love most. They get to help cook and serve the meal they planned. It’s a great hit here. Now that I have a few that are older, I can see how they have learned to budget and make a balanced meal.

sorry I’m late commenting. I have a number of friends who swear by green smoothies, but I just can’t face it, I’ll stick to other ones myself.

Looks very yummy! Thanks for explaining the green smoothies. My kids are 3 and 5, so I’m not ready to let them plan the whole menu, but Henry did pick the Asian pork wraps on last week’s menu. After several requests, I posted the recipe: http://morequestionsthana.blogspot.com/2008/03/asian-porkbeef-recipe.html
