Gratituesday: My Mom

As we celebrate women this week…I MUST tell you about my own mom.

Her name was Bettye Jo. She would have turned 59 this Friday.

She was diagnosed with ALS in 2002, and finished her fight…and won the race on July 10, 2004.

She was smart and funny and pretty. She loved to cook, read, cross-stitch, quilt and make cards using rubber stamps. She made the best salsa in the world, hands down.

She loved my dad and my brother and me like crazy.

She taught me to cook and to be a homemaker and to organize and to plan ahead and to serve others.

(She tried to teach me to quilt…but oh…I just never did learn to enjoy it! At least she taught me to appreciate the work and love that goes into making a quilt!)

My mom thought her grandkids were terrific. She loved playing games with them and reading to them. She made them a new ornament each year for Christmas. They are treasures.

She loved the Lord and served Him well.

My mom really, really loved me.

I was her favorite girl. She was my biggest fan. I always knew it. I miss her.

I’m so thankful that she was my mom.

God is good.

You have been blessed beyond measure with a mom who showed her love to you in so many ways, not just physically, but emotionally and supportively as well. I agree; she would be mighty proud of you and your legacy.

    Laura,
Mother’s Day is hard for those of us who have lost our moms. I will be thinking of you and praying for you this Sunday. May you remember the blessings of having a Christian mom and give thanks for the time you had together!

Ok, can I come to Nebraska right now and give you a hug? I can’t believe she’s been in Heaven almost four years. I’ll be thinking about you and praying for you this weekend, especially on Friday and Sunday. BIG HUGS!!

I have often thought about your mom and the things she obviously taught you, even dying as young as she did. Alot of women your age do not know how to entertain, serve others and simply be a Christian woman. She reflects in you and is evident in the things you do and who you are.
    Love You, Tana

Her salsa is sooo very yummy! We are working on the last few jars we got from your dad as part of our wedding gift! :-) Your mom sounds like such an amazing woman, and Christian example. I wish I could have met her- but I know by knowing you- I know part of her too. Because your are an amazing woman and Christian example to me! :-)

    Laura,
You are that “kind of woman”! (as you wrote on my blog–and like your mother)

Reading the story of your Mother made me feel the same though, “I hope I will be that kind of lady”.

Thanks for sharing her story, may God bless you this week with all the work you are doing for Mother’s Day!

I met your mom a few times. She was such a kind woman. She (and your dad)did a great job raising you and Kevin. Your tribute to her continues as you live your life loving the Lord. :)

I posted today about being grateful for teenagers. It’s a LONG post.
