Menu Plan for the Week

Today we had a potluck after church. My boys filled their plates and stuffed themselves. Then we let them choose not one but TWO desserts.

We arrived home at 1:38 this afternoon. It took until precisely 1:58 for Elias to say, “Mom, I’m hungry. Can I have a pear?”

Good grief.

Anyhoo…here’s what I’ll be TRYING to fill my family with this week:

Sunday, Jan. 25
Oatmeal, toast, fruit
Church potluck: chicken and rice casserole, chocolate sheet cake
Leftovers

Monday, Jan. 26
Mini breakfast pizzas, clementines
Beefy vegetable soup, buttered toast
Hearty bean casserole, fruit salad

Tuesday, Jan. 27
Scrambled eggs, peaches
Homemade chicken nuggets and fries, carrot sticks
Lasagna casserole, tossed salad

Wednesday, Jan. 28
Chocolate chip muffins, bananas
Skillet meatballs, lima beans, potato wedges
Cheesy beef and rice, green beans

Thursday, Jan. 29
Whole wheat sourdough biscuits with butter and honey, pears
Bean dip with chips, fruit-kefir smoothies
Deer steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas

Friday, Jan. 30
Cinnamon swirl bread, applesauce
Potato wedges, peaches in cottage cheese
Whole wheat pancakes, turkey sausage, scrambled eggs

Saturday, Jan. 31
Mom is Great Breakfast Cake
Lentil soup, cornbread
Chicken fajitas

On the blogging menu this week:

*It’s Bloggy Giveaway Carnival time…be watching for a fun giveaway here!
*I’ll share with you some of my “tricks” for getting everything done in the kitchen, plus we’re going on a field trip in my Feeding the Family series.
*Malachi has a “trick” of his own to show you…if you have little ones or know someone who does, you’ll want to see it for sure!
*More encouragement for all of us in another post in the Women with a Mission series.

Hope to see you throughout the week! Visit Organizing Junkie for more menu ideas.

And tell me…can YOU keep your children full…or are yours eating all the time like mine are?  I mean, twenty minutes after a potluck?  And don’t say,
“Oh wait until they’re teenagers”…I do not want to have a panic attack.

    Hi!
Just wait until they are teenagers (especially boy teenagers!!)…. you will not believe the amount of food they can eat!! Sorry..;)

I am trying the sourdough starter this week with spelt flour instead of whole wheat and I have not used so much water with each days “feeding”. I am finding that the “stink” is so much less and my family is not complaining about my kitchen smelling like the calls that my firefighting/paramedic husband goes on! Just fyi!!

    Blessings,
    Cindy

This is fantastic!! Truly, I’m making those whole wheat biscuits and the Mom’s Great Cake this week! I’m always looking for ways to shake up their mornings. Soaked oats and hulled barley are both great, but boy do they love it when I surprise them with something new!

Again, I really look forward to the food field trips this week! ;-)

I gave my little one a green smoothie this afternoon! :>) I made an enormous one, so I froze the extras for her to enjoy later. That kid really will eat anything in a smoothie. Of course, I could serve cow pies to her papa if I put enough BBQ sauce, salsa, or honey on it (depending on which course it was, of course). So I know where she gets it . . .

My 10yr old eats ALL the time and he’s skinny as a rail. I’m not looking forward to having 4 teenage sons either, Laura. LOL

I am really impressed that you not only make a menu but you make it for all three meals.

That happens to us a lot after church potlucks. :) I’m pretty sure there is a physiological aspect. Filling them up AND keeping them busy works really good. :)

Ha ha! That drives me crazy! It really is endless, the following me around telling me they are hungry not five minutes after any meal, any size! I know sometimes that is boredom since it doesn’t happen as often on days when the calendar is packed but still… they eat tons! Glad to know I am not alone! :)

Hearty Bean Casserole??? Care to share (the recipe)?

Can’t wait to see Malachi’s trick!

Yes, they could eat constantly if I let them. And my little ones are just as bad as the teenagers…hmm maybe worse!

Sorry, but it is true. My 16 year old stepson (who lives with us) eats CONSTANTLY. As soon as he finishes eating something, he will get up and get something else. Continually. And yes, he’s thin as ever too. I actually have to hide cookies and sweets because he will eat the whole bag in one day (true story). Good luck!

My son (7) is just now starting to say he is hungry about 2 hours after breakfast and must have a snack. He has never done this before and has always had a little appetite. I guess I’m in for a rude awakening.:)

That sounds so good. Its a good reminder to me that I will need to increase our food budget and think more creatively as my kid(s) get older!
