As we’ve seen as we go through this series, there are so many things we as women can do to minister to others without neglecting what absolutely should be our main ministry: our families. If you haven’t already, be sure to catch up on the rest of this series here.
Today I want to talk about a different ministry opportunity: Compassion International. I love this organization for so many reasons…
- I trust them. If we’re going to give our money “to help children” we want it to help children. With Compassion International, you can trust that it will. I love that.
- Not only are they working to meet a child’s basic physical needs…they teach the child (and family) about Jesus. They are truly feeding the children.
- They make it easy to sponsor a child. They communicate well and their program is just “user friendly”.
- This ministry is perfect for you and your family to work at together!
We chose to sponsor a little boy a few months ago (yes go figure…we chose a little boy!). The entire experience has been delightful for us. We picked someone who practically shares a birthday with Asa. That made him seem even more real to the boys.
We looked on the globe to see where he lives and learned about his country. His picture is on our refrigerator. We get to sit down and write him letters together. We pray for him together. The boys ask us questions about him from time to time. I love that they have a “brother” across the globe. I think they love it too.
If you have a few minutes…take the time to watch this video.
And then consider if sponsoring a child through Compassion International is a ministry that you and your family could take on together. You won’t regret it.

Yah!Yah!Yah! I love this organization too! I’ve been sponsoring a child with them for about 10 years now and they have never disappointed me. Occasionally, I browse through the job openings for my husband, in hopes of convincing him to work for them. Hee hee! Thanks for the highlight!

I LOVE Compassion. We started sponsoring a little boy after our son was born. Our son is still very little, but he points to our sponsored child’s picture and can sort of say his name. The experience has widened my view of God immensely, and I hope it does the same for our son. Oh, and I love how Compassion works through the local church!

Compassion is an awesome ministry! I’ve been sponsoring a little girl in India for several years now, and I’m so blessed when I get her letters and am able to pray for her and her family. In her last letter, she asked me if I liked the book of Esther(I think that was so cool!), so I went back and read it again, and wrote to her about the parts that I really value and stood out. I’m getting married next week and we are donating to Compassion instead of favors. They gave us a ton of brochures and we just made a sticker that’s on it to tell about what CI means to us and how they are impacting the world and God’s Kingdom!

A few years ago we asked Compassion to pick a child for us (we couldn’t agree on age or gender or country!) They assigned us a girl from India. Unfortunately, a few months later her father died, and as her mother had already died, she moved out of the Compassion area to live with relatives. We still pray for her, along with her “replacement”, another girl from India. Then, to make my son happy, we found a boy that not only shares his birthday, but shares his name! They write letters, and we get them back regularly. The kids put in money towards their care too, so they can really get involved.

We’ve been sponsoring the same girl since 1995. She’s now 18 years old, and it’s been fun to watch her grow up. She struggles in school, and she knows that I’m a teacher. So it’s fun to read the letters from her. She’s always asking us to pray for her performance in school. I’m just blessed to know that she had an opportunity to go to school. Compassion is a great ministry!
