Gratituesday: An Upcoming Date and an Unexpected Gift

Last week, my husband asked me out. I said yes. :)

Many recommend that you date your spouse once a week, or at the very least, once a month. Matt and I have never felt that we needed to make “going out” on dates a high priority. However, what we have made a priority is spending time together often and making plenty of time for meaningful conversation. We’ve never felt that we needed to spend money on restaurants, movies, and babysitters to keep our marriage healthy. But really…the occasional date that involves going out and spending a little money? Well, that’s pretty fun every once in a while. :)

Our kids are old enough to stay on their own and fix their own meal, so Matt and I decided that the two of us would go out for lunch this week at one of our favorite local restaurants, Chances R.

I’ve been excited since making these plans, and we looked at the schedule to pick a day this week to make it happen. That alone was going to be my Gratituesday post, but guess what else??!!

Sunday at church, we were handed a “thank you” card for a ministry we’ve served in for the past two years. On the way home, I opened the card and told Matt, “Ha! Look what we just got?”

Inside the envelope was a gift certificate to Chances R. How about that? I believe I can now splurge by getting a dessert with my meal. What do you think?

Isn’t it neat the fun ways God gives gifts and bonuses to His children?!

Isn’t it wonderful the way HE sends gifts. I was thinking of Eggs Benedict before I took my granddaughter out for breakfast. She chose the restaurant. They had a special on Eggs Benedict and it was a weekday, when they don’t usually serve it.

I just love watching how God works. I had something similar happen to me in getting the funds I needed for MamaBaby in Haiti. God is amazing!

Great story! I call those God hugs. :) We had one a month ago when our dryer died and we needed to replace it. We decided on a set number to spend on one and it turned out that the cheapest one was still a little over our budget. We decided to get it anyway and work a little more to pay it off. The next day my husband got a card from a friend he had been doing work for and in was a little over the excess we had spent!! Hope you enjoyed your date!!!!

Oooooh I just have to say I LOVE Chances R! In fact the last time I was there, I was on a date with my hubby! Enjoy your date :)

And as for dates with him, we don’t have any kids and we’re both kind of homebodies, so our ideal date (which we do pretty regularly) is just to snuggle on the couch and watch a movie.

Great to hear your story of how the Lord gave you a special little blessing this week. He is always so good isn’t He. Hope it’s ok,but wanted to share how when my husband was out of work for quite a long time and it was Mother’s Day and my husband wanted to get me flowers and decided he couldn’t afford it and then at the last minute decided we were going out to eat at this cafe(they have baked goods as well and we were not getting too much)so I could have a morning off. So off we went without telling anyone. Had a lovely time there and then when we went back out to our LOCKED van there were flowers in a very pretty container on the front passenger seat. I was so excited. I asked my husband-did you do this? He said-no. He wished he had,but no he had not. Nobody knew we were going and we didn’t know anybody at the cafe and the van was locked. Apparently the Lord special delivered me some flowers. Also I have ALWAYS killed flowers in the past and these stayed around outside in WI until Dec. The LORD is good indeed. Best Mother’s Day ever.

Wow, how cool is that? “Dating” our husbands is always a worthwhile activity, but it really doesn’t have to be expensive or even include going out! My dh and I always plan at least one night a week a stay home date for after our kids are tucked into bed where I set up the table just like we’re at our favorite restaurant, and we chat over chips and salsa and a favorite beverage. Thanks for hosting!

I love how God blesses in little ways and big ways! It is so awesome and overwhelming and humbly to have Him bless me in some unexpected way that isn’t even anything I “need”.

Enjoy your dinner and date! :) Your description of your “dating” is very similar to ours. We spend a good bit of time together as a family when we can and I go with my husband to run farm errands and we just generally seek for a good bit of time together. It is special to have a weekend away now and then or a dinner date. Partly just the break from everday life! :)

So glad I found this link up! I have often said we need to focus on the good instead of the bad and the verse Philippians 4:8 is one of my favorites! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to read these posts!

That is so exciting! I love how God sends us gifts :)

I would love to share a true MIRACLE that God has done in my family’s life recently! This ranks top on my list of thankfulness to God! Last year, February, my first born niece died. Quick version: my sister and BIL were pregnant with their second daughter and had found out that this daughter too had the same complications that their first had. Needless to say that everyone was back to grieving this unborn child, because the doctors had said she had less than a 1% chance of survival. From the moment I heard this sad news, God gave me ultimate peace that could only come from Him. I knew my niece, Faith, would be okay. My sister gave birth at 29 weeks, 2 days after the 1st anniversary of death of my first-born niece. Faith spend 67 days in the NICU and by only a miracle work of our Lord came home on April 26th! What joy! Today I was over there for a few quick minutes and my sister was cuddling her and I just stopped to thank God for this amazing daughter and her mom and her life!
That is what I have been so thankful for :)

Thank you for sharing this … brought tears to my eyes. Our God is a great God! He holds our hand during the painful times, but delights in answering our prayers and blessing our lives. Enjoy your little niece! “Faith” – what a beautiful and appropriate name! Saying a prayer right now for her continued health and development. (-: -Joy
