What is UP With the Snuggie? and other random thoughts

It’s high time I wrote another random post, don’t you think?

And what better way to start than by asking the question I’ve been giving oh so much thought to lately:

What in the world is UP with the Snuggie?

Snuggies are everywhere I look. In every store. In every color imaginable. Even printed with the mascot of your favorite sports team.

I hear you can go to a football game and it looks like a regular Snuggie convention. Just think, if you’re wearing a Snuggie at a game, with the convenience of having this blanket with arm holes, you can still wear a foam finger. Rock on.

Snuggie owners…speak up! Are they as wonderful as all the advertisements make them out to be? What color do you have? Did you know you can buy Snuggies for your pets? Yep, saw them the other day at Wal-mart.

Moving right along…

We’ve had over a foot of snow dumped on us this week. It’s beautiful. It’s cold.

We’ve had two extra boys with us a good part of the week because their school has been closed as a result of all the snow. Little did those boys know that we, as homeschoolers, don’t have snow days. SO, to celebrate their days off from school, they got to come to our house and do schoolwork.

I don’t think they minded at all.

In fact…Tuesday I told Ethan, one of the boys staying with us, that he could work with Elias on his math assignment if he wanted to. A few minutes later, Elias came into the kitchen…alone.

I said, “Where is Ethan?” and Elias said, “Oh, he’s upstairs finishing my math.” Is that so?

Before I could turn around, Ethan came proudly into the kitchen holding up Elias’ math assignment saying, “I’m done!!”

Wednesday, I gave them separate math assignments. Both boys just grinned.

One more random thing to tell you:

Matt’s restaurant (okay, it’s not really Matt’s…but you know what I mean) is finally, FINALLY going to open in the next few days!!!! The one last major item on the agenda (which happened to be a motor for one of the pieces of equipment that was on it’s way to town on a truck and the truck rolled and destroyed the motor and it had to be completely rebuilt…) is finally being taken care of so that they can open!!!

We are both so excited about this. I’ll try to get down there and take some pics. Hopefully our family will be heading there in a couple of days so the cooks and wait staff can “practice” on us. Hey, I’m always willing to help. :)

Although, I do have to say that as much as possible right now, I want to stay at home by my fireplace. At the time I’m writing this post…it is 5°. But with wind chill, it feels like -16°. Brr.

Somebody hand me a Snuggie.

I have no idea what’s up with the Snuggie either, but that is what my 21 year old brother wants for Christmas!!! At least it’s affordable, and easy to find. :)

THANK YOU!!! I have been shaking my head at the sheer number of these strange-looking fleece bags that I’ve seen. They’ve even invaded my CVS store! I’m glad it’s not just me that is a little perplexed by Snuggie-mania.

I heard they were the BEST!
I don’t have one – yet, but whenever I get the opportunity to sit on my couch -through an entire tv program – I love to have a blanket (summer or winter), so a snuggie would be a good thing for me. I passed the idea along to my husband and mom. Maybe I will get one for Christmas. I will definitely let you know how wonderful it is if I get one, but my best friend is totally hooked on hers.

Snuggies: all I can say is, “FLEECE?! ewww. Give me cotton flannel, please!” =)

And, YaY! for the restaurant final count-down! W.o.W. about the truck rolling and destroying the motor. Sounds like a piece of our life… (the blizzard blew our ICF walls a bit askew and off their stacks… since they don’t have concrete in them yet! :p Not good for my DH’s BP…. desperately praying for temps near 30!)

    Funny about the math =)

I think that the same people who bought the Chia Pet are buying the Snuggie. Definitely the same people are marketing them.

Glad to hear that things are coming along with the restaurant. Randy was wondering if the truck driver was OK.

Ok, looks like I may be the only one so far. But, I have a snuggie. It was a Christmas gift last year from the kids. I love it. I am a book reader and I like that I can be totally covered up but still have my hands free to read or hold a cup of coffee or tea. My husband ordered mine off the internet last year and there weren’t many color choices. Mine is green. I think they would have gotten me pink or something if it were available.

I once suggested to a friend that she start a blog. She told me she really wasn’t a writer. Hmmm…. blogging is writing? There is a lot of BAD writing on blogs out there, but yours is not one of them! Well done – you are a fantastic writer!

I like your post today. My hometown is in Kansas, and we’re flying there tomorrow from here in Tropical Thailand. Hoping to see some snow! I am almost nervous about the cold. I think it’ll be a shock to our systems!
We have an Ethan just like your friend’s boy. :-) But ours is almost 19 months old.

My thought on the Snuggie exactly. My father-in-law just bought my mother-in-law one for their 46th anniversary so I got to really check it out. It reminded me of a hospital robe with the back open – just in fleece. Have you seen the commercial? My daughter thinks it’s hilarious with the entire family wearing them at a sporting event. Great post – made me laugh!

I too was kind of apprehensive about the snuggie, actually thought is was kind of strange, but I broke down and bought one and I love it. It is so warm and cozy and leaves your hands free to read, crochet, hold the remote whatever.

    Just my 2 cents.

My in-laws have Snuggies (they ordered them from the 1-800 number on TV – so they are the real deal) and I have to say I was not impressed when we used them last time we visited. I have never felt fleece that was SO THIN! Seriously, it did not keep me warm at all. And I can’t imagine that people actually wear these things in public.

I read in Good Housekeeping that they were not very well made. And after washing a few times began to pill.

I think I saw Snuggies for pets…..I’d put one on my pet (if I had one) before I’d wear it out in public. Don’t see myself buying one, although if it keeps you warm, I say enjoy!!

If it’s just fleece, I’ll take my fleece blankets we make (two layers of fleece tied together which everyone has been doing for years anyhow) over that any day! My sister needs the pet ones for her miniature Greyhounds. I saw pink and blue ones for pets. Are there any other colors for pets?

I bought a knock-off of the Snuggie, called the Cuddler from Woman Within. It only came in red and is on sale for $5.99. It’s great for sitting in my recliner and I can still use my laptop. I keep my heat lowered to save money on the power bill, so this helps me stay warm!

I have a Slanket that I got from QVC. It’s thicker than the Snuggie and very, very soft. Of course, it’s a little more expensive, too. We’ve had colder than usual weather in the South and my warm Slanket has come in very handy. Worth every penny.

LOL – love the post and all the comments too. I don’t know how it will be, but this is something my husband requested for Christmas. So, we shall see if it measures up in a few weeks. Oh, BTW, the one I got is just plain old hunter green.

Like Marsha, I have the slanket (get it? blanket with sleeves…ha!). It’s awesome! Sure, you can use a backwards robe, essentially that’s what it is. But the slanket is long enough to cover your cold toes. It’s perfect for sitting on the couch with a book, cup of coffee, or the remote. It’s nice because it goes up around your neck, yet leaves the hands free.

    Congrats on the restaurant!!!

I am not sure what is up with the snuggies but my 8 yr old daughter and 5 yr old son are asking for them for Christmas. They see them in the store and say “oh I hope I get a snuggie”. Really??? ;) I picked up two from Black Friday and I am ready to see what they are all about!

I like the idea that it has sleeves, and is long enough to cover me from neck to toes; unfortunately it is so thin and cheap that I usually have to have another blanket to be warm.

snuggies…my dd wants one in the worst way. i would’ve gotten her one but the consumer reports didn’t rate it high b/c the fleece didn’t hold up well to washing. my mom is maing one forher though out of a better fleece with tinkerbell on it. dd loves tinkerbell.

snow…share the love lady!! we usually have feet of snow by now, but it just started snowing yesterday. and it’s been super windy so everything is drifting. i’m hoping the freezing rain we’re supposed to get sun. turns into snow. feet of snow. nothing is better than a white christmas.

resturant…that’s great news that things are finally happening. i hope it is a wonderful experience for you all.

I OWN a Snuggie! Let me explain. My 5 year old has watched commercials for them and was SOOOOOOO convinced that it would solve all the worlds problems (aren’t commercials great at convinces us that we would DIE if we didn’t have what they are selling). Well she mentioned it to my husband who saw one in the drug store when they first came out…long before they had so many colors, and sizes (and long before the pet version arrived). He thought that would be perfect for me when I sit and knit (you know, because I have a lot of time to sit down) so surprised me and brought one home. I laughed hysterically! My husband does not buy much for me, so I really, really appreciated the thought. It was very sweet, but OH, SO FUNNY! But my 5 year old was thrilled…she thought it was for her. So we “share” the Snuggie. She keeps telling me I should use it more, and even that it is good for cooking (can you imagine those long sleeves dipped in….everything!)

PS. We have washed it at least a dozen times and it is holding up fine. But it is very thin and not very warm. It does help some though. And I should try it with the laptop!

One of these was given as a white elephant gift last night a Christmas party, that should say something as to what most people think of it! I thought of your post the minute it was opened. But, it was one of the few that was “stolen” until it had changed hands the limited number of times. I don’t get it at all!

I am not a fan of Snuggie. However, I am a fan of the Kozytoez blanket! They have a pocket for your feet. It’s just perfect for sneaking a nap on the couch and tucking your toes into this blanket so they stay toasty warm. We have 2 of them!
