Remember that Science Museum I told you about? Last month’s topic was all about reptiles. We were all welcome to hold anything we wanted.
Of the five from our family who were there, four of us said thanks for the offer.
One out of five couldn’t leave until he held EVERY one of those snakes.

I was just proud of myself for getting close enough to snap pictures to show Daddy.
Could YOU have held one of those creatures?!

Yes….the snakes I am fine with. we went to a reptilian show. I think it’s called a herpetological expo. My boys had to hold almost everything. I put my foot down (actually I ran out screaming)when one vender offered my little boy a chance to hold his tarantula the size of a basketball.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWW!!! Ick! :)
I love reading your blog!
I think I would do it! :) Better a snake than a spider!! :D
-gasp-
-silence-
Did I faint? What happened?
:-)
I’ve got about 2 or 3 boys that I think would have done the same thing- boys!
I am queasy just looking at the pictures. Oh my. I do not like snakes at all. Good for you to take those pics!
My oldest is the same way with snakes! I’ve got pictures of him just like that!
EEEEEWWWWW!!!! I have goosebumps just looking at your pictures! But thanks for sharing, because my kids think it’s awesome and they are begging me to search for something like that near us! I think I would have fainted if I had gotten close enough to take a picture. You’re a cool mom, Laura!
Do snakes sense fear like dogs do?
I don’t know if I could do it.
We actually had a 5ft ball python for about a year though. It belonged to my 3 boys of course. They would hold it all the time, and wrap it around their waists and walk around the house like it was no big deal. As long as it was fed it was very friendly. But you don’t want to stick your hand in the cage when its hungry!
You are so brave. I really do not like snakes and would probably not get close.

No problems here – my first job as a teenager was at a pet store, and I handled pretty much everything, including tarantulas. I’ve always liked any type of critter.
We all have our fears, though. Here I am in my 30s, and I still have trouble being alone in the dark. *smile*
Ummmm, not in this lifetime!
I give you credit for being close enough to get that shot, I feel like snakes are crawiling all over my house now from just looking at it!
Not for a million dollars…
oh yeah! Every summer we catch a few snakes and keep them for the summer to study. Now a spider? I’m not afraid of them but wouldn’t want to hold anything more then a daddy long legs.
Yes, that was just like me as a kid. I was willing to hold anything, except little spiders. I still don’t like spiders.
I had a snake as a teenager but I was a tomboy. I hate to say it but he looks in his element in those pictures. Maybe he has a future working with wildlife.
And yes, I’m still normal. Eeeek! Creepy crawly spiders are too much even for me. :-)
I’m shuddering. Ugh! LOL! I definitely could not hold one. I’m sure my kids would though. LOL!
Oh my…I think I’m gonna throw up. That is sooo icky. And you were brave to even LET him! Oh gross.
No doubt I could do it! My son has an Albino Nelson’s Milk Snake that my brother bred.
Because I have 2 older brothers, and lived in the desert, I was surrounded by wild snakes and lizards. They even let the rattlesnakes loose in our grass so they could practice catching them. Not exactly my mom’s cup of tea. LOL
My Twitter picture is of me holding a snake (@vanderbiltwife). But it wasn’t that big. I am not sure if I’d be all about that one.
