It is that time of year again. I love warm weather and everything that comes with it – except for the bugs and bug bites.
We are big fans of Bug Block from MadeOn at our house. It offers great protection from bugs, plus it is 100% safe for our skin. Remember the story I shared last year, back when my 15 year old was a 14 year old?
Last week, we sent Asa (our 14 year old) outside with orders to remove all of the green overgrowth on one side of our house – not a fun job, and one that is typically quite mosquito filled. I handed him the Bug Block and had him rub it all over his arms and neck and face. He spent a good part of the morning outside with vines and mosquitoes for company. Fun.
Later, I went out briefly to help all the younger boys haul off all the branches and vines that Asa had taken care of earlier. I really only planned to be outside long enough to give some direction, so I didn’t take the time to use the Bug Block. Mistake. I ended up staying out longer and helping more than I had intended, so one hour and several mosquito bites later, I came back inside.
While I tried not to scratch, I asked Asa how the Bug Block had worked. His response was, “Hmm. I don’t think I got bit at all while I was out there. Maybe there just weren’t any mosquitoes?”
Oh no. The mosquitoes were there. I didn’t see them either, but I felt them. Remind me to put on Bug Block next time. It totally kept the mosquitoes away from Asa.
And that’s my Bug Block story. It works and it’s completely non-toxic and safe for you and your kids. :)

tea tree oil is a natural tick repellant- use a 1:1 ratio tea tree oil
to water and spray on pants, shoes, skin, whatever!!
…meaning does it prevent ticks from biting like it does with mosquitoes… :)

I love natural products – I have two boys who have very sensitive skin. I use kirks castille soap or dr bronners for skin… both seem to work fine. I haven’t found any good shampoos yet. Most of the naturals that I have found leave hair really tangled and nearly impossible to comb. But, both kids age 5 and 7 mo have something that I liken to cradle cap. My five year old has scabs on his scalp because it itches and he picks at it ( sorry for the visual.) I would purchase anything at this point!!!
Of course- as Laura for sure knows, and anyone with boys knows- I have to give him a bath everyday. and then I have to clean the tub. Everyday :)

I bought some Hard Lotion packs when you mentioned you were buying them for teacher gifts. They were just the thing I needed for my “Summer Survival” gift bags. So I got the lotion/lip balm packs for them and since I have been looking for a better all natural bug repellant (we live in Houston, mosquitos will eat you alive in 5 minutes outside on a Summer evening) I bought a Hard lotion and bug block for me.
I LOVE the Bug Block bar! I’ve tried all sorts of natural bug block sprays and this bar has been the best one hands down. I’m not good at rememebring to apply lotion regularly, so the bonus is that I get all lotioned up each time I use the bug bar. Mosquitos have been finding their way into my children’s rooms at night (after the kids spend all day long running in and out of the house to play, leaving doors open constantly) and family members keep telling me to spray them down with toxic chemical every night before bed! My husband even insisted we “bomb” their bedrooms! Crazy, no way I’d do that. But now I just lotion them up before bed, everyone smells nice and fresh and the mosquitos leave them alone. Best buy of my summer! Thanks for sharing it with me!
