I’m sure you’ve all been wondering how often I wash my hair. Just like you’re surely curious the frequency of how often I pull out a fresh tablecloth or shake out my bathroom rugs.
No? Don’t really care that much? I don’t blame you in the least. But I do feel it’s worth mentioning that I’ve trained my hair to need very infrequent washings.
Photo credit to my oldest son, Asa. For the record, he took this on a day I washed my hair. :)
Certainly no head is created equal, so what works for me may not work for you. I’m just happy to have developed a lower maintenance hair lifestyle. I mean, back when I washed my hair every day, my hair thought it needed to be washed every day. Or, is it possible that I just thought it needed to be washed every day but it really didn’t? Maybe I was just in the habit of washing it every single morning without even considering the need to actually do that.
Either way, as the years have gone on, I’ve either gotten lazier or I’ve started to actually pay attention to what my hair actually needs. As it turns out, my hair doesn’t need to be washed every day. It doesn’t even need it every other day. My hair stays nice and healthy when I wash it just twice each week.
Lazy or not, it sure is nice not to have to mess with washing, drying, and curling every day. I’ve said it many times before, and I don’t mind saying it again that I don’t know what I’d do without my pretty Flexi-Clips. I wash, dry, and curl my hair on Sundays for church. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I simply pull my curls back into a Flexi. My hair isn’t anything fancy, and sure, the curls begin to flatten after that many days and nights of living life and sleeping. But my Flexi-Clips make it easy to pull my hair back in about 10 seconds. I get compliments on my clips all the time! It has nothing to do with my hair. The Flexis are just that cute!
What I love best about the Flexi-Clips is that I believe they help keep my hair healthier. They don’t break my hair like rubber bands did. They don’t pull my hair like rubber bands did. And unlike rubber bands, which stretch out and need to be thrown out after just a few uses, Flexi-Clips last forever!
So there you have it. My hair-fixing life consists of infrequent washings, Sunday only curlings, and practically every day Flexi-Clip wearings. After so many years of Flexis, I have a fun little collection so I can match them to my outfits or moods.
Want to start (or add to) your own collection? Paula, our very own Lilla Rose consultant, is giving one of you a $50 gift certificate! Think of all the Flexi-Clips! And of course, they have Bobby Pins (which I also love) and other accessories too.
Sign up in the Rafflecopter below for a chance to win the gift certificate! I’ll draw a random winner on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Watch for an email announcing the winner that I’ll send to everyone who signs up.
This sounds wonderful. Thanks for the giveaway!
With my curly hair, every 2 to 3 days is just about right. :)
I would love to hear more about how you “trained” your hair… We tried going to less frequent washings for a month or two but it never seemed to “normalize.” So, I wash my hair about every other day. Love the idea of less; it does seem like it would be healthier for hair!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Well, with my curly hair, I never use shampoo, but I wash my hair with conditioner 4-5 times a week. I don’t get great second day hair with the frizzies.
Would love to try a Lilla Rose flexi!
Thanks for the giveaway chance.
Every other day unless I have to work outside the home. My daughter has to wash it every day or it looks dirty and grease. Tried different products nothing seems to work.
2-3 washings per week here. And I love the flexi-clips too!
Thanks. Laura! I rinse my hair everyday when I’m in the shower, but only wash it twice a week generally. LIke you, I discovered I didn’t need to wash it more than that. My hair had never felt better. :-)
Every other day, but probably less if I wasn’t working out. I’d love to try Lilla Rose for myself, I’ve bought them for gifts but never for myself…yet :)
I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. I’d love to try a flexi clip!!
I have curly hair so I use conditioner 4-5 times per week and shampoo 1-2 times. Some days I can get up and not need to redo my curls but that only happens a few times a week.
laura…….thanks so much for the opportunity!
I’m a twice a week girl too (sometimes I use dry shampoo or suds my bangs between times). The flexi clips look lovely, especially since my hair is fragile after pregnancy. Thank
I’m with you, I try to wash twice a week. My hair used to get this weird too oily and then too dry thing going on…much more balanced now.
My hair is crazy in the morning, so I wash it every day.
I used to be an every day hair washer, but now it’s every 2-3 days. So much easier!
I wash my hair every other day. I would love to try a Flexible Clip, they look adorable!
Thanks for the chance to win. I would love to try them.
Thanks for a chance to win!
What size flexi do you use for ponytail ? I ordered one and it is a bit big for my hair thickness
Interesting! Actually, I really DID want to know how often you washed your hair, since it’s something I keep hearing about/toying with.
Since I’m home more (only work outside the home three days a week, usually), it makes it easier to experiment. I admit I like to stretch it out (using dry shampoo in between, as necessary), because I find drying and styling hair to be a chore I do not enjoy.
I’ve heard/read that basically our hair produces more oils the more we strip/wash them out, so it’s logical that washing less is not only healthier, but will cause our hair to create less oils. I’m still working on the exact “formula” for me, but I’ve gone mostly from every other day to every third day.
I have four flexis and am looking forward to learning to use them for more than just the “basic” pinning hair back. Thanks for sharing your personal stuff with us, as well as for the nice giveaway!
I condition my hair once a week, and I actually “wash” my hair about every 3 months. Any more often and my thick, curly hairs frizzes so bad I look like a poodle!
I have naturally curly hair so I can get away with out washing it for up to 3 days. I normally wash it every other, if I can. We have lots of property and animals, so after a hard days work and smelling like a tractor or 4-wheeler I have to wash that smell out or I can’t sleep. But thank goodness for dry shampoo! I love it on those days I just condition while in the shower!
I, too, don’t wash my hair but 2-3 times a week (every third day). And because of your love for the flexi clip, I bought my first one b/c of you sharing it on your blog like 4 or 5 years ago, fell in love and now I sell them, too (under Paula!) So, thank you, thank you, thank you! I wear my hair up every single day in pretty much the same style. But now I have about 36 different styles of flexis. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Once or twice a week :-)
I wash my hair about every 2-3 days, it has been seeming to need it just a bit more lately.
I wash it every other day. I haven’t been able to stretch that time at all.
I usually wash it every other day. Sometimes every third day.
2-3 times a week works for me. With my curly/wavy hair, I just use a water spray bottle on the off days to bring the curl under control. Works great!
I wash my hair 2-3 times a week, and it’s happier that way. We have 5 girls, and they have the same routine (thankfully- we still go through the shampoo and conditioner!). The $50 certificate would be super-appreciated around here! Thanks for the chance! :)
I wash my hair nearly every day (6-7 days a week). I can’t go more than 36 hours without my head feeling like an oil slick and causing my chin to break out.
I recently purchased my 1st Flexi Clip on eBay and I love it! It’s the mini size so I would absolutely love to win a chance to purchase some bigger clips.
I wash every other day… Occasionally, every third day. Haven’t tried to extend that. Interesting thought.
I used to wash my hair every other day or every 2 days, but since I now live in Arizona, I have to do it pretty much every day. I have fine hair that looks greasy fast.
I’d love to try to flexi clips!
I try for every other(ish) day.
I’m with you. As I’ve learned my hair, I’ve learned that often twice a week is perfect. Now if I go for a run and get sweaty, I at least rinse it in the shower – sometimes with shampoo. :)
I also only wash my hair twice a week. Then I straighten it, and it’s working for me.
Same for me, too! Twice a week! I’ve recently begun using Josh Axe’s recipe for homemade shampoo with an apple cider vinegar rinse. I’m pleased with the results.
I wash my hair every 2-3 days.
With long very thick hair, I never got into the everyday habit. It just takes too long to dry. And twice a week works fine to keep it healthy. Sometimes use dry shampoo at roots. Ever since you introduced us to flexi-clip I have wanted to try one. Thank you for another opportunity to win, Laura.
I usually wash my hair every other day.
I have a couple flexi-clips. I finding I’m sort of inbetween sizes so my pony tail slips out. My hair gets washed 2-3 times a week.
Hi Micah,
Please email me, and I can give you tips for how to get your pony tail to work if it is in between sizes!
Blessings,
Paula
I have short hair. If I don’t wash it every morning, it stands straight up.
I wash my hair when I find it convenient to do so. Sometimes, that’s once or twice a week. It doesn’t always look the best, but one finds time when there is time. My girls would love the flexi clips. wish i could wear them.
I wash my hair every other day.
Twice a week for me too. I was afraid it was because I had gotten lazy or just busy with 3 young babies but now that they are kids my hair still only needs to be washed just twice a week.
I wash mine 3 times a week.
I wash my hair 3-4 times a week or it is floppy and looks dirty.
2 to 3 times per week
I wash my super curly hair twice a week.
Twice a week for me.
I have very long hair, so washing it every day would be painful. I think longer hair can do without being washed every day because we distribute the oils from the scalp down as we brush it. Twice a week works fine for me too, so I hope going that route doesn’t mean I’ve fallen into the lazy camp. I’d rather look at it as being efficient with my time and frugal with the water and shampoo.
I love the hair accessories! Here’s to fewer hair washes! I’m right there with you.
I would love a $50 gift certificate!
3 or 4 times a week.
I have always had really dry hair. I now only wash it about twice a week and it does much better. My daughter has really oily hair and by day 3 it is too late and greasy. She still has to do it every other day.
I’ve tried and tried to get to the point where I don’t need to wash my hair every day, but I just can’t seem to get over the “hump” of oily hair not being so oily. Maybe someday it will happen for me. For now, it’s still pretty much every day, although I do try to use less shampoo most days and do a full wash just a couple times a week.
Love these clips Laura! I wash my hair every other day usually. The clips would be great for this summer
I wash my hair 1-2times a month. I of course shower more often than that. :) I love the Flex-Clips also, but my favorite LillaRose are the hair pins.
I spray my hair with apple cider vinegar/water every couple of days and thats it!
Would love some flexi clips!
I’m the same- used to wash my hair everyday but now only twice a week!
Every other day but less would be great!
Wavy hair. 2 times per week is best, but I do sometimes wet it down or curl it mid-wash to freshen.
I wash my hair every other day.
I wash three times a week sometimes two. Thanks for the giveaway!
Every two to three days! And I would LOVE to get some flexi clips!! :)
I wash my hair every other day
I am still in the habit of washing my hair everyday.
I wash my hair every night and have for a long time. Wonder if I could go without washing it.
I also wash my hair about 2 times a week. Love how healthy it is now that I wash it less.
I was mine every other day!
I could not get by with that due to natural curl. Can’t even put up in a flexible and have it look nice after day 2!!
My girls and I all want to try flexi clips. So pretty?
I mean So pretty!! All the girls in our house wash their hair twice a week. It did take some training and enduring the greasy feeling at first but it’s amazing how hair can adjust.
Like you, every few days is enough.
My hair is naturally flat and lifeless. I wash it every other day. I’m lazy and would do it less, but I work in a school kitchen where I come home every day with wet hair due to sweat. I would love to try a clip so maybe my hair would look cute clipped up, even after a day of sweating for several hours straight!
I wash my hair every night…it’s a greasy, gross MESS if I don’t! :P Just received my first flexi as a Christmas present. I love it! Thanks for the giveaway
My super-long hair doesn’t need washing more than once a week or so. And my Flexis keep it nicely styled on the days in between!
Thank you for the giveaway! I really want to work at washing less.
I usually wash my hair every other day. :)
I usually wash my hair every other day, but it often gets put off to every third day. I have curly hair and it’s really not great to strip the oils very often. I should probably stretch it out a bit more. :)
I wash mine everyday. It gets greasy otherwise and I don’t feel like training it right now! :)
Cute clips, I wash my hair two or three times a week ????
I wash my hair every other day otherwise it’s an oily mess…
I love my flexi clips. And I wash my hair 2-3 days, unless I’m in the barn more often.
I would love to win this gift card to try out the flexi clips. I have naturally frizzy hair (HA!) so I only wash twice a week. But I do have to put in some styling conditioner to try to tame the mane……Try being the key word.. :)
I wash my hair every other day, and I love my flexi-clips, too!
I would love to try flexi clips. They’re so pretty! I wash 3-4 times a week, definitely 4 in the summer.
I was given a flexi clip as a gift and love it. Just need a larger one…My daughter uses the one I have. ?? Thanks for the giveaway.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I wash daily, usually. I have fine hair that tends to be oily :/
I usually wash my hair daily, but have found since adding Rosemary oil to my shampoo, I don’t have to as much.
I’m trying to wash it every other day but by the end of the second day, I’m pretty much fed up with it.
I wash my hair everyday.
3-4 times a week
I would love to have some of these clips. :-)
When I became a mother, I found myself washing my hair far less frequently: about twice a week. Flexi clips is a great idea for what to do on the day before washing. Thanks for the post and the giveaway. :)
I wash my hair two or three times a week. I just bought a hot shot gold curling iron from Sally’s over Christmas and am very pleased with it!!
I’ve experimented on several different hair washing options and in the end my hair works best with daily washing or if I do take an occasional break I’ll use dry shampoo. Sometime in the last few years my hair decided to start curling….at first it was wavy and now its downright curly…I finally have the products figured out that keep the curl in all day….its been a fun change after 30+ yrs of super fine straight hair!
I also wash 2x a week. I would love to try flexi clips
Like you, I’ve gradually trained my hair to need only occasional washings (1-2/week, depending on activities). Unlike you, I’ve never gotten in the habit of wearing my hair up, so it’s down and in my face all day everyday. Looking at your blogpost, I noticed a few different hairstyles – guess I’ll have to check the LillaRose site for ideas… I have several flexi-clips that I only rarely use.
I’m down to twice a week washings as well! Back in the day, I had permed hair and if I didn’t wash, I still had to completely wet my hair to get just the right look, but I’ve given that up and my routine looks a lot like yours with the Sunday curls going into a ponytail the rest of the week. I need to get some flexis though…they are adorable!!
Yes! I used to wash my hair every other day. It was dry and brittle. Now I only wash once or twice each week. I use a natural shampoo bar and an ACV rinse. To style it, I scrunch some homemade salve into my damp hair and let it air dry. Done! No heat styling needed. Once or twice between washings, I will dampen my hair to freshen the style a bit. My hair has never been healthier.
And like you, I LOVE my flexi-clips. They are super comfortable and work even in my fine, thin hair.
I’m so glad to hear you love your Flexis, Rebecca! :)
I wash my hair every other day. I have noticed when I take the time to curl it with my straight iron I can let it go longer.
I wash my hair 2-3 times per week. It really needs it more because I work out every day and it gets sweaty; however, life happens and it doesn’t get all the sweat washed out….
I wash my hair every other day. I really love the flexi clips too!
Yay! :)
I mostly try to stick to washing twice a week. I’m finding my scalp is getting really itchy and flaky though so I might be making a change soon. I don’t use conditioner at all anymore… Just a little oil if it needs it.
Usually, I wash my hair twice a week.
I am not a fan of hair washing! Twice a week is enough for me. But don’t tell my kids – I make them wash more frequently since I don’t put mud and oatmeal in my hair.
I wash my hair every other day.
I wash my hair two or three times a week. Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
I wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week.
Every other day, with the occasional third day added in there.
I love Flexi Clips! And i love that you only wash your hair a couple times a week, sounds good to me. :)
Congratulations to Karen M!!! And thanks to Laura for all you share! God Bless you & yours!
Guessed I missed out on the contest…..but I figured you washed your hair about twice a week :)
I wash mine every day and I use WEN , you don’t have a lot of suds, and I don’t use what they say you should….I use way less…..
I see a lot of people who don’t wash their hair regularly, I can tell by looking at their hair…..I just like clean hair, don’t know how a person could go days without washing their hair…..fresh washed hair just looks better, and feels better….
