Hit Restart, Save $10

September 2, 2014 by Laura 3 Comments

Right now, I’m very much in a “stock up on groceries for fall and winter” mode. I want to be set up to have company, to bake for others, and to make our school days easier. Being well supplied with ready-to-grab groceries is super helpful to me. Many of you (like me) already purchase food online from Vitacost. It’s a wonderful option for healthy groceries, low or free shipping costs, and home delivery – my favorite part!

If you are new to Vitacost, you can shop through my referral link and get a free $10 off your first order of $30 or more. You’ll love all the great food they offer, and to get $10 free? Well, yay! Even better, if you purchase $25 or more Vitacost Brand products, shipping will be free. (Otherwise it’s just $4.99.)

Free $10 At Vitacost

Items I recommend:

  • Vitacost Brand Coconut Oil (this one tastes and smells like coconuts)
  • Vitacost Brand Refined Coconut Oil (this one is odorless and flavorless)
  • Enjoy Life Soy Free Chocolate Chips
  • Organic Whole Wheat Pasta
  • Tinkyada Brown Rice Pasta
  • Organic Brown Rice
  • NuNaturals Liquid Stevia
  • Coffee (YUM!)

Obviously, there are hundreds more products – those are just some of our favorites. Go get your free $10!!!!!! Your healthy food restart will arrive on your porch in just a few days! :)

Free Shipping at Tropical Traditions (Plus a great price on flavorless, odorless coconut oil!)

August 22, 2014 by Laura 7 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

It’s been a few weeks, so I was hoping this would be a free shipping weekend at Tropical Traditions. Sure enough! Get your order shipped free through Monday, August 25!

Even better? You can get a 32 ounce jar of their Pure Coconut Oil for just $14.99.  This coconut oil is just what many of you have been asking about. It is high quality coconut oil with many health benefits – without any coconut flavor or scent.

pure coconut oil

I trust all products that come from Tropical Traditions. Even though this isn’t the finest variety of coconut oil they offer, you can be assured it is very good! I love this price and I love that shipping is free right now. Take advantage!

How do I use this type of coconut oil? Well, it can be used in any recipe that calls for vegetable oil. Simply melt it down and stir it into your recipe. I especially like this type of oil for frying foods. I don’t want my fried foods (like chicken nuggets or French fries) to taste like coconut. Flavorless coconut oil like this is completely healthy in fried foods (YAY!) – and does not change the flavor of the food.

Are you new to Tropical Traditions? You’ll be excited to know when you shop through the referral links in this post, they will automatically include a FREE Virgin Coconut Oil Book.

Re-Usable Containers For Your Make-Ahead Lunch Box

August 21, 2014 by Laura 6 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Let’s talk about food containers to go along with our Make-Ahead Lunch Box series.

I love all the eco-friendly packaging available now. Occasionally, we still use a disposable ziplock baggie or two. But if at all possible, packaging “to-go” foods in containers we can wash and reuse just makes so much more sense – and saves so much money!

You all know I have and love this Pyrex Storage 10-Piece Set. The lids in this set seal very well. The variety of sizes offer great options for packing side dishes of cut fruits and veggies, or main dishes like pasta salads and wraps.

As I was looking at other great options to share with you, I came across a good price on this 10-Piece Set of Round Glass Storage Bowls. Oh yeah, I filled them up in my head within about 2 seconds of looking at them. Fruit salad, potato salad, soup, pasta salad, tossed salad, pasta leftovers…

If you’re more into BPA free plastic for packing lunches, I like these Fit & Fresh 1-cup containers at iHerb. I love that they have a built-in ice pack to keep food cold. Even better, iHerb will give you a free $10 (with $40 purchase) if you purchase through my referral links. So click here if you want to get these containers for FREE, along with some other goodies! (You can also use the code BID487 at check-out to receive $10 off your $40 purchase. Shipping at iHerb is free with orders over $20.

I really like these Lunchskins re-usable sandwich and snack bags. BUT, I don’t recommend you pay these Amazon prices. Surely you can find them cheaper at an actual store? What has been your experience purchasing these types of bags? Is there a store you can suggest? My small town doesn’t offer items like this that I know of.

How about for packing hot food? I’ve heard from several of you that thermoses just don’t hold enough food. I found this 16-ounce stainless steel thermos that seems to be a good option. At least it would hold more than a 10-ounce thermos, right?

What do you use for packing food to go?

Transforming Your Kitchen With Great Deals on Cast Iron

July 22, 2014 by Laura 9 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

You all know I love using Cast Iron in my kitchen. Once you learn the benefit of ditching the Teflon, it’s easy to want to throw everything out and start over. Cast iron is a great alternative to Teflon for non-stick cooking needs. It’s pricier though, so setting your kitchen up with cast iron is a process. Check out garage sales, look for sales, and slowly but surely, you can replace your kitchenware for healthier choices.

Here are some great deals I found to share that may help make the transition easier:

I have a big cast iron skillet like this one and use it all the time. It’s great for scrambled and fried eggs, as well as for cooking meat. I love it so much! This Logic Mfg LCC3 10-1/4″, Pre-Seasoned, Cast Iron, Combination Deep Skillet & Shallow Skillet/Griddle With Lid is awesome.

I prefer my skillet with a lid, but having this Universal Housewares Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron 3 Piece Skillet Set is great too since it comes with a variety of sizes for different cooking needs.

For pancakes, crepes, and hashbrowns, I love the Lodge LPGI3 Pro Grid Cast Iron Grill/Griddle. ($39.99 – down from $75.00)

Have you made the switch to cast iron yet?  (P.S. Cast iron is great for non-stick, but I really love stainless steel cooking pots too.)

I Just Ordered Some Cute Summer Dresses For Super Cheap!

June 29, 2014 by Laura 11 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Many of you commented or emailed about how you appreciate my clothing choices pictured in my post about our trip to Nashville. Fashion is certainly not something I blog about much (ever??). I barely know how to pick out clothes for myself, so I usually stick with talking about butter and vegetables. So hey, your comments made my day!

home from trip 15

Many of you noticed that I put a simple tank top under my tanks and dresses. Yep, that’s because there are soooooo many cute summer dresses and spaghetti strap tops, but I don’t feel covered enough. That’s my personal modesty preference (and my husband’s), so I’m thankful that adding a tank top underneath gives me the coverage I feel more comfortable with so that I don’t have to avoid those dresses and tops altogether.

When it comes to picking summer dresses (one of my favorite things to wear in the summer, because they are so cute, fun, and comfy), I find three issues for me. They are usually either:

  • Too low at the top
  • Too short for my comfort
  • Too pricey for my budget
  • Or sometimes all of the above

All that to say:  I signed up for Zulily a long time ago, but forgot about it and stopped looking at what they offered. I’ve been looking all summer for dresses that meet my “criteria.” :)  Over the weekend, I happened upon Zulily again. I can’t tell you how excited I am that I did! I found page after page after page of adorable summer dresses and tops to pick from. Their prices were incredible, and I got to shop from my favorite place: home.

Typically, the items they offer are for a very limited time, so everything I ordered is already gone from their site. But just to give you an example, I got the following dress for just $10.99:

zulily dress

It’s not too low at the top, although I’ll still wear a tank top underneath. I love the length and style!

I looked at the Zulily site again today, and while the dresses I ordered are gone, there are now a ton more. I had to make myself stop looking because, really, I don’t need more dresses after the ones I ordered Friday. But I thought you might be interested in taking a look if you have an interest in highly discounted, great quality clothing. For that matter, they have clothing for men and kids, toys, books, kitchenware, and lots of other items too. (I found a great pair of tennis shoes for Malachi that were a great price for such high quality shoes!)

Check out Zulily here.  Enjoy the huge savings.

How about you? Do you love summer dresses?

These Pyrex Bowls Are Being Used Constantly!

June 24, 2014 by Laura 6 Comments

pyrex bowls 2

First let me say that I can’t believe this 8-piece Pyrex Bowl Set With Lids is still at Amazon. This is an incredible price. I now have two sets of these bowls in my kitchen, and I can’t remember how I ever lived without them. Take advantage of this 46% discount. You will love these bowls with their handy lids!

Below is an example of one shelf in my fridge, just to give you an idea of how I’m using these sets:

pyrex bowls in fridge2
I love that I can see exactly what I have in these bowls.

I find these are great to store prepped fruits and veggies to pull out and go with our meals or for snacks. In the above picture, you can see that we have a bowl full of grapes, one of sweet peppers, one with sliced strawberries, and one with Chocolate Whipped Cream.

These bowls are great for pasta salads, potato salads, and tossed salads. Of course, they are also great for mixing up muffins and breads. In fact, last night I stirred together all the dry ingredients I needed for our breakfast muffins, put on the lid, and went to bed. This morning, all I had to do was add liquid ingredients and bake the muffins. So handy!

I’m not sure how much longer this , but I really want to encourage you to look into these. I use them constantly at my house, from prep to serve. They are awesome!

My Favorite Brand of Stevia (and How to Get Some For Free)

June 10, 2014 by Laura 9 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

nu naturals steviaI’ve talked quite a bit lately about my new love for stevia. I’ve always known it was a great choice in a real food diet, but I just couldn’t learn to like it. Now that I’ve figured out how to use it correctly, I really am loving it!

The trick is to find a good brand of stevia, and to avoid using too much. Too much stevia, and your treat turns from sweet to bitter.

I love that stevia is all natural – it’s an herb that is naturally sweet. I love that it provides us with sweet treats that are completely sugarless. And I love that it isn’t an artificial sweetener (like Splenda or NutraSweet – those must be avoided!!).

Many have asked what kind of stevia I like and where I get it. You may not be surprised when I tell you that I order it from Vitacost, one of my favorite online resources.

What is my favorite brand of Stevia?

NuNaturals is the brand that tastes the best to me. I prefer either the NuNaturals Alcohol Free Liquid Stevia or the NuNaturals Clear Stevia. So far, I’ve not experimented much with powdered stevia. Therefore, I’ve only used stevia in liquid recipes, not in baked goods. Once I figure out how to do that well, I’ll definitely pass on the information!

How Can You Get Stevia For Free?

If you are a brand new customer with Vitacost, you can click through these referral links to sign up for an account. Doing so will give you a free $10 coupon code to use on your first order of $30 or more. That makes a bottle of stevia absolutely free to you!

Does Stevia seem expensive to you? It really isn’t. This is because you use just a few drops of stevia to add sweetness to a recipe. A little bit goes a lonnnnnnnggggg way. Sweet! (literally)

Now, go get yourself a free $10 to use on Stevia (or really, whatever else you might like for free). Then you can enjoy making all these guilt free, delicious, real food recipes like Homemade Chocolate Frappe, Chocolate Whipped Cream, and several new recipes that I’ll be sharing in the upcoming weeks that I’ve learned to make with Stevia. :)
