I never win anything. Now, this could be because I hardly ever sign up for anything, but still. Anytime I’ve entered a raffle or signed up for giveaways on other blogs, my name is never chosen.
Until recently. And then I won twice – in one week. Wowza.
Here’s how it all went down: On a fluke, I entered a giveaway at Tammy’s Recipes for a $50 Kroger Grocery Gift Certificate. I really don’t enter giveaways much these days, but if you dangle free groceries in front of my face, it’s hard for me to resist the opportunity. So I entered.
And then I won. Wow. Now I understand how excited all of you are when I draw your name and email you. That was one of the most fun emails to receive, ever!
THEN, just two days later I received a phone call from one of our grocery stores here in town. Every time you make a purchase there and sign your receipt, it goes into a drawing for a $100 gift certificate. I’ve signed my receipts for years and let the boys put them into the “drawing box” as we leave the store. Never figured I’d win, but it never hurts to try – and it was fun for the boys to put the receipts in the box.
Long story longer, you guessed it: The grocery store was calling to tell me that I had won the drawing that week! $100 of free groceries from our local grocery store!
Do you know how much fun a person can have with $150 of free grocery store gift cards?!?! We don’t have a Kroger store in Nebraska, but they are all over Kansas – so we took our $50 certificate and used in on our way home from visiting family earlier in the month. Here in town, I just used bits and pieces of my $100 card anytime I needed bananas or watermelon or cantaloupe…
Yeah, we spent it mostly on fruits and veggies. FREE fruits and veggies.
It was so much fun. What a blessing to be gifted twice with free groceries!! (Come to think of it – three times – as we had some Whole Foods gift cards saved up to use last week when we went to Omaha, thanks to all of you!)
God does provide, doesn’t he? I pray that we’re always wise with the blessings He gives us and that we’re always willing to be generous and share with others as we’ve been blessed!

Yippee!!
FREE Groceries! Lovely! I never win anything either, which makes this blessing even more fun for you since you WON it! Yay!
I just wrote on this as I quit my job this week to stay at home. The Lord ALWAYS provides our needs…. maybe sometimes our wants…and sometimes not. But our basic needs will always be met – how wonderful! Congrats to you. There is nothing like free food to make you grateful for our awesome God!
Free groceries would be LOADS of fun! :-) Congrats!
Congrats on winning! Lucky you! By the way, there are Kroger stores in Nebraska, called Baker’s, and they’re several in Omaha. Kwik Shops gas stations are also in the Kroger family. Now you know, in case you’re fortunate enough to win another gift card!!!
Just a friendly Kroger tip…Kroger owns the Bakers supermarkets in Omaha. I use Kroger gift certificates at Bakers frequently. I’m a fellow Nebraska girl :)
That’s awesome! Congrats! I always say I never win anything, but I did end up winning a trip to the Bahamas several years ago through a local radio station, which I never expected. I only entered because my husband, at the time fiance, convince me to enter. I ended up winning a 3 night stay at a small resort. Nothing too fancy, but we used it for part of our honeymoon. It was awesome as we didn’t have much money at the time as I had recently finished college and didn’t have a career job yet and my husband was working a low paying job. We were trying to spend as little on our wedding and honeymoon as possible (our wedding cost less than $5000) and were going to go camping for our honeymoon before I won the trip. Even though I enjoy camping, a relaxing trip to the Bahamas was much more enjoyable for a honeymoon. As you said, God always seems to provide and I really think he had a hand in my winning the trip.
Woo-hoo! I, too, was doing the happy dance recently ’cause I won an e-book giveaway and couldn’t believe it. Thanks for hosting! ~Lisa
I know the feeling of NEVER winning. I have tried several times if it was something I would really use. No use trying for things I do not want.
Congratulations on your free grocery shopping.
GOD BLESS!!!
So you’re the Laura that one the giveaway on Tammy’s site! I entered that too and was hopeful that it was me (also Laura) but it wasn’t! Good for you.
P.S. My husband’s name is also Matt :)
I also have won something, my prizes are an All-clad 6.5 crockpot and a set of Fix It and Forget It cookbooks there are 7 of them. I received my prizes yesterday. My 10th year old son is extremely interested in the kids cookbook. He made baked oatmeal in the crockpot this morning and has 2 more meals planned. Oh, and we also live in Nebraska. :)
How neat! God is good :)
Yeah! What a blessing to win two gift cards in one week! I am still enjoying the wonderful Rebecca StJames CD I won from your giveaway, it was the first and only thing I have won from a blog contest! So thanks again and thank you for hosting this fun recipe/idea exchange. Blessings, Kelly
see. I was just feeling down in the dumps, and I thought to myself “I’m gonna head on over and have a peek at Heavenly Homemakers and see what she’s been up to. I’m sure that’ll cheer me up and put things in perspective.” Whelp here I am, totally have forgotten it’s Tuesday, and what’s the very top post here but Gratituesday. :) I’ve been on modified bed rest for quite a lot of this pregnancy; last week they told me (with an August 11th due date) that I am to be up only a half hour – no more – then down for one hour afterwards. Needless to say, makes it hard to be a mommy to a four year old… in fact, I was crying tonight. But now that I think about it, I’m grateful that I access to really good healthcare; to doctors who are schooled enough to know what the right thing is to do to keep this baby (and me) safe and sound. It’s only a few more weeks really (okay, a couple months maybe) :) and I just need to take it one day at a time. Thank you Laura for reminding me to breathe and to be thankful for the good parts of (hard) things. :D
What a great blessing! Yes indeed, the Lord does provide. :)
