We were gone for twelve days. Seven of those days were spent in the car. Phew, home has never looked so good.
We were blessed to visit with many of our California relatives this Christmas break. In the five full days we were there, we moved at a frantic pace, making the most of our time to visit with as many people as possible. It was a joy – and also exhausting. (By the way, we wanted to hold Meet-and-Greets along the way there but our schedule and energy didn’t permit. So sad!)
On our way home we surprised our boys by taking them to the Grand Canyon. Matt and I had not been there before either, so we were all in for a treat! After a few hours spent marveling at the canyon, we headed to surprise our boys by taking them to the Four Corners. Would you believe – we drove up and the gate was closed and locked. It was so disappointing! I told Matt not to even tell me how far we had driven out of our way for that. We had planned to put each of our boys in a different corner/state and get a fun picture! Ah well…
We are so thankful for a safe trip and a wonderful time with so many loved ones. We’ll spend the next few days settling back in and trying to get caught up. Let’s not talk about the leak in the basement we came home to. Eh, could be worse, right? ;)
Leave a comment to let us know what you’re thankful for!!
We love being with family that we live far away from, but as we stayed home this Christmas, I’m thankful that we didn’t spend long days in the car. We needed the time to rest, be together, and recover from colds. Skype is nice, though:)
I’m also thankful that our family has been able to look back this last year and see how God provided for us in ways we didn’t see coming, including Him moving us into a better apartment and a community of Christians with our neighbors/ friends.
By the way, I know the CA-NE drive. Almost every summer we make it in order to spend time with family and enjoy the good life! I’m thankful that I’m seeing that living in our L.A. island away from family doesn’t mean that it’s a “grass is greener” (or the sky is clearer, spaces vaster…sigh) situation to regret. God is good to us where we are and has us here for Him.
Glad you made it home safe and sound. Your “Four Corners” story made me smile…a few years back, when we made the trip from Missouri to visit the Grand Canyon, I asked (well…demanded) that my family drive many miles out of our way to visit the Four Corners. I had been there when I was eight and remembered it as being SO COOL. Well, it was not cool…it was disappointing! Dusty, ugly, and surrounded by souvenir vendors. My family was kind enough not to rub it in too much…but it’s pretty much impossible to convince them to go along with my sightseeing plans now!
Spending a week and half with my hubby and daughter. Start our rocky but change my attitude and went great. Kind of weird yesterday and him not here. No one to enjoy a lazy morning andrinking coffee. He end up work 14 hrs. Came home ate supper and went to bed.
Glad you’re home safe and sound….but to come back to this cold weather is not fun eh ?
I am thankful for my kids and grandkids and that I made it thru another year,…..and that my son made it back to another country safe and sound…..and I thank God everyday……
Praise the LORD for your safe trip. So thankful for sunshine today too even though it is rather chilly after a 63 high Sunday. HA!!!
