Gratituesday: Just Like Daddy…

Recently some friends of ours handed down a small sized pair of coveralls. I gushed over them when I saw them…the cutest little coveralls I’ve ever seen. They are just like the kind Matt wears when he works outside…except they’re pint sized.

Just the right size for Elias.

eliasincoverallssm.jpg

Elias is so proud of those coveralls because they are his. His brothers didn’t wear them first. HE got to wear them first. (Not something this third born boy can often brag.)

The best thing Elias loves about these coveralls is that they are just like Daddy’s. He wants to be a hard worker in his coveralls like his Daddy. He insists on putting them on every time he and his brothers take a trip with the wagons to our “carriage house” out back to get wood. “Mama, where are my worker clothes that are like Daddy’s?”

All my boys want to be just like their daddy.

I couldn’t be more pleased.

If all four of our sons grow to be hard working, God fearing, servant hearted, loving, caring, strong leaders like their daddy…that’s a good, good thing. I’m so grateful that God gave my sons such a wonderful role model.

What a great story about your husband and your boys. Aren’t you just so grateful they have him as such a wonderful role model? I feel the same way with myself (not to toot my own horn) and my husband. Our children look up to us and model us and we don’t take that lightly. I pray for those children who don’t have that in their life.
Blessings…and thanks for sharing! So cute!

I’m thankful for the role models Matt has had in his daddy and his daddy’s daddy. Love you, miss you, wish we could sit and share some snow ice cream or tea or something.

I’m grateful for my husband and the role he plays in our children’s lives too, but today I wanted to share a similar “hand-me-down” story about my Dad. There are 3 children in my family. We each have a boy and a girl. My Dad – the grandchildren call him Gramps – had a carhart jacket. When the first grandson was big enough to wear the jacket, Gramps loaned it to him. He outgrew it and gave it back to Gramps. When the next grandson was able to wear it, he got the jacket to wear and returned it to Gramps when he outgrew it. My son just received the jacket a few weeks ago! He’s not quite big enough to wear it, but he will be before I know it (wimper, cry, sob) and he will also outgrow it and return it to Gramps. My niece has a little boy and a girl on the way (we have a tradition of b/g babies to uphold!), so the great-grandson will get the jacket after my little boy outgrows it. My Dad lives 5 hours away and I don’t get to see him often enough, but he is a great example to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – not because he passed down a jacket, but because he loves God with his whole heart and he shares that love with everyone he meets!

Having a dad that is a good role model is a WONDERFUL thing! It’s sad to see how many children live without a father figure at all … or with a father figure who models things he shouldn’t. I’m thankful you have such a good man.

Godly husbands are truly a gift from the Lord. Thanks for this encouraging story. Praise God for the way something so simple lead to such a grateful heart.

( Do you know where your friend got the cover-alls? I’ve been looking for something for our boys to “work” and play in ).

Those coveralls are just adorable! What a great blessing you have in your husband.

It must be the day for praising our dear husbands because the thought on my mind is that marrying my hubby was one of the proudest moments of my life (if not THE proudest). I’ve been working on putting a generational collage of wedding pictures together to frame and hang in our dining room. I have our photo, of course, my parents and my husband’s parents. How fun it is to look back on those vintage photos and what a great heritage of being able to display multiple generations of in tact marriages. So, that’s what I’m grateful for today.

Oh Yay! I’m glad the boys thought to pass those on. I forgot that those were so important to my boys, that must be why they treasured them. They looked like their daddy in them! Here’s to the little things!
