You know me right? I love sunshine. I love heat. I live in Nebraska.
This means that many months out of the year we don’t have much sunshine, and the only heat we get comes from our fireplace or furnace. Most days, I am wearing an entire load of laundry because of the amount of layers I have on. Space heaters, blankets, thick slippers, wool socks, and hot drinks are my friends.
I’ve decided that while I much prefer summer over winter (understatement!), there’s a lot to be said for the snuggliness of this season. Piling under blankets on the couch while we read history books together is actually kind of fun. Sipping on hot drinks throughout the day doesn’t hurt my feelings.
Ha! Who decided today’s lunch should be a table full of cold food?? We pulled out tossed salad fixings and Turkey Salad, plus Creamy Orange Cooler and chips with Spicy Avocado Dip. There was no oven or stove involved! What was I thinking? I shivered my way through lunch (which tasted awesome, by the way), drinking some peppermint tea to keep me from turning blue. :) It’s okay. I made up for it by making Turkey Pot Pie for dinner tonight.
This season of all things snuggly isn’t so bad, right? I love the comfort of soft blankets, warm food, and steamy mugs. As an added blessing, today the sun was actually shining in through the windows! It made our “high of 14°” seem a little less frigid.
There’s nothing like a freezing cold winter to make folding a load of hot clothes that just came out of the dryer actually a coveted chore. Who knew?! :)

Everyday that the weather is cold and nasty I am thankful for a warm house and the things that we need. Having worked with the homeless and a prison re-entry program I can tell you that those without a home are out there all day and have no where warm to go. Some hang out at our library but they are required to be reading something and if they fall asleep they are told to leave. They do fall asleep because they are exhausted. My heart goes out to them and I often worry about those that will not go to the shelters.

I am thankful for our woodstove. I am thankful that my husband is strong and healthy and is able to cut the wood our family burns every winter from our own property. I am thankful that even when it was 13 below zero outside this morning, we were a toasty 71 inside without worrying about how much money the propane was costing us. I am thankful that we can hang wet snow pants by the fire, and they are dry be evening. I am thankful that I can then hang a load of laundry and have it dry by morning without using the dryer. I love the cozy glow through the glass window. I love that my husband loves the woodstove even more than I do :)

I’m so thankful to be entering the final weeks of pregnancy and for the energy the Lord has given me as we prepare to welcome baby seven.
I’m also thankful that my oldest son has an EEG scheduled for Thursday. It will hopefully provide some much anticipated answers about the seizures he’s been having.
Much to be thankful for!

Among the many things I am thankful for, I believe that I am most thankful for the atonement of Jesus Christ. I am preparing to teach a lesson on this subject at church on Sunday. (Taking a lunch break right now.) As I study and ponder on this I am overfilled with gratitude. How different our eternal lives would be without His atoning sacrifice. I am thankful to be able to use the atonement with repentance everyday if needed to change, improve, to grow.

You have stated my sentiments exactly! I too am a warm weather girl living in a cold climate, but there are many things I like about winter too. I take advantage of this time indoors to organize and clean the house, read, bake and cook, and do all those other things that I don’t want to be doing when the weather is warmer. I am thankful for my wood stove and all the hard work my husband does to keep us supplied with wood.

Sounds like it’s time for an insulation overhaul and a new heating system!

I couldn’t agree with you more… about the sunshine, the hot drinks, and the snuggling. I don’t care too much for winter, either, but I love how you have chosen to focus on the blessings of it. I think I’ll make a turkey pot pie for dinner!
God has blessed me recently with a few opportunities to make a little money. While it won’t net huge payoffs, by any means, I am thankful for what I have been given. He surely is our Provider and Sustainer.

With that post, I am thankful to live in California, where I thought it was quite cold at 41 this morning! :) I am also so very thankful for my family!

I am thankful to finally be living in a state that I am happy with every season – NH. (I have lived in 6 other states.) Unlike Laura, I do not like hot weather. I grew up in WV hating summer and loving winter – at least as long as it stayed below freezing so there was no mud. I am also thankful for nice woodstoves – especially old kitchen cook stoves.
