This time of year is super full and super fun. The older the boys get, the busier our days are – especially in the spring (and also in the fall, winter and summer, so really, don’t listen to a thing I’m saying about this time of year being busier).
Speaking of the boys getting older, Asa (16.5 – a junior in high school) went to Spring Formal last weekend. We are so thankful the homeschoolers in this area put together such a wonderful event for our youth. Asa headed off for the evening with some of the greatest kids on this planet. What a blessing it is to have such good friends! Several of them came by afterward to hang out, eat pizza, and watch a movie. After all, why end the evening at midnight when you can stay up until 4 in the morning? We loved it!
Asa is back left, just in case you weren’t sure. :)
There is a lot of excitement at our house this week because we’re hoping to officially wrap up our school year by Wednesday. We still have some books to read, and we’ll tackle some special projects we haven’t had time for, but THIS is the reason we begin our school year the first week of August. Just about the time we all have spring fever, we complete our math and English assignments! It’s been a great year, and the boys are excited to have almost all their subjects completed. Now they are doubling and tripling up on assignments in order to be completely finished in a few days. Can’t wait!
So what have you been up to? When will your school year be finished? Are you planting a garden this spring? We haven’t even started yet, although we do have asparagus and spinach coming up on its own. Awesomeness. :)
Now your turn. Share what you’re thankful for! Leave a comment on this post letting us know how God is working in your life. If you’ve written a blog post about what you’re thankful for, leave the link in the comments so we can visit your blog to read about it. We love sharing and reading about God’s blessings!

We love spring, too – and we’re taking a nice long break so we can enjoy it. :-)

* A loving husband who truly tries to be there when he can, all while healing
* Beautiful, intelligent, healthy baby who is one of the best things to happen to D & I
* Bringing us home from CA & the Marine Corp. safely, regardless of the PTSD and other issues
* The Lord providing for all of us regardless of the circumstances
* Caring parents & siblings who are just trying to help through it all

I am thankful for where I am in life. I so tired of the bumps but won’t be here if it wasn’t those bumps.

I started a garden this year, which is a new thing for me! I am thankful I now have space to grow things! One tomato plant is looking awesome, but most of my transplants are not growing. They haven’t died, but they look about the same as they did over a month ago when I planted them. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Some of my seeds sprouted and then died. I’m guessing my soil is not rich enough? I’ve been watering them with compost tea some. We shall see if that helps. Any other tips for a newbie with a brown thumb?

Make sure you are buying GOOD soil! Go to a garden place and ask for soil for your tomato plants! The stuff at walmart like miracle grow will kill it!!

I have raised beds that I filled with gardening soil that was recommended by the gardeners at my local nursery. I thought about doing the recommended mix in the book Square Foot Gardening, but that is crazy expensive! My dirt was pretty cheap ($40/yd.), but it is what they use at my garden center in their gardens.

Hmm I’m not sure then. I’m no expert by any means. We have always used Fafard 3b or 3s
I wonder if you have a bug eating them or disease. Sorry I’m not much help!

You do not have a brown thumb, Hon…just need a bit of help. Starting your own transplants is hard even for a seasoned gardener. I started three trays of seeds with no results. It can be many things: bad seeds, too much water, not enough water, poor soil, fertilizing too early, the darn weather, or shock. I lost two rose bushes to shock because I did not harden them off properly. Like I said…still learning even though I have been gardening since I was old enough to help mom and daddy drop a seed in a hole. Ha! If you have the money and are so inclined, I would set up a small greenhouse and start seeds there. Inside temps tend to be too dry which makes it even harder for germination and to transition the plants from inside to outside. If you have space, a small compost pile will make a huge different in your plants. I think Laura did a post about how they compost awhile back, and I have started doing it that way too. (thanks, Laura :-)) If these are not an option, find a bag of potting medium which is specific for starting seeds to give them a good start (ideally, it will be soiless and very light). When you transplant them, you want to make sure you have good soil in your garden. I do not know about the tea as I have never used it, but I would be interested in knowing more about it. I hope this helps.

I’m so thankful for Lord Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour! If it wasn’t for him I don’t know how our family would be making it through life! It’s been good though :)

We are about done with school work too. We don’t start early but we also don’t take nearly as many breaks as the public school does so by keeping pretty steadily at it we usually can get done early. We are always ready to get out and enjoy the Springtime so it is nice to get that schoolwork done.
One thing I am feeling especially thankful for this week is home remedies that work and then we can avoid using antibiotics and doctor visits. My youngest was sick last week but some activated charcoal, garlic and pro-biotics took care of it. :-)
