Gratituesday: The Circus

We had exactly one hour and ten minutes to get ready.

This is because when the email came through from our home school group at least one month ago about free circus tickets, I somehow didn’t see the details or didn’t have time to think about it or something goofy like that. And then I forgot. This is why I didn’t sign up for our family to go to the circus for FREE. Many of the home school families in our area who HAD read the email and HAD been responsible enough to sign up on time were making big plans. Therefore, last Friday several of our friends were heading out to the circus with their kids while WE were planning to stay home and clean bathrooms and bedrooms. Not nearly as much fun, huh?

Then, just a little over an hour before departure time, we got a phone call. There were exactly six circus tickets now available…did we want them?

Oh yes, we did want them thank you very much!

Of course, we were still all in our jammies (yes, even though it was after 10 a.m.). And needed to pack a lunch. And make sure the van had gas. And fill some water bottles. And tie up a few other loose ends.

We scrambled, we ran, we threw jammies around not caring where they landed.  Eh, we could take care of those later. We were going to the circus!

We made it to Lincoln, found a parking space and ran in to find our seats with exactly three minutes to spare.

The circus was great! We’d never taken our kids to the circus before. In fact, while Matt and I had each been to a circus once when we were little, we didn’t remember much about it. We all had a blast!

Since I’d not been prepared ahead of time, my camera took this picture…then the battery died. :(
At least I got a pic with the fire ring the tigers walked through!

The kids have been talking all about it since Friday. What great memories they got to make! (Although I’m hoping they’ll forget the memory of watching the the stunt motorcyclists riding around in the tiny little circle cage thingy…they don’t need to be getting any ideas.)

We’ve been wanting to go to the circus, too. Our youngest hasn’t ever been. Free tickets would certainly be nice! Glad your family had a good time!

Such a blessing! We did the circus for the first time last summer (although sadly not for free) and my kids still talk about it and re-enact parts of it!

Free is a very good price! Thanks for hosting. And thanks for letting me know that my family isn’t the only one sometimes still in jammies at 10 a.m. :) Blessings! ~Lisa

We just found out yesterday that we close on purchasing our first home tomorrow. It has been a long process. I am so thankful that the Lord opened up a door for us. My husband and I along with our 5 children are so excited that we finally get to move this week into our new home.

What fun Laura! I remember going to this circus with the kids when they were younger and we always had such a good time! What a blessing to have Matt home and be flexible with your schedule:)

Today I’m just thankful for the springlike weather and working outside with my family (even though I’m sore!). Praise God for Spring!

I’m thankful for the wonderful weekend my husband and I had with my daughter’s 2 boys (ages 14 and 11). They spent time fishing at our pond and caught 2 catfish, both nice size. One was 3 pounds and the other slightly bigger.

Also thankful that we are going to be grandparents again. My daughter is expecting another child and when this baby arrives, we will be grandparents x 6. (Big Smiles!) God has blessed us!

I’m thankful for a wonderful family. God has given us great health through this past winter. No flu, which is amazing! Thank you God.

All the sickness we have now is small in comparison to some. My prayers are with those.

I am sorry, but there is nothing fun for the animals in the circus. Do you not even consider what they go though for your entertainment? I am so disappointed that you don’t know this or feel this way?

I certainly gave this thought as I was watching the show. Would you want to share with us what you know about how the circus animals are treated?

Very thankful for my baby girl born March 17! And I’m thankful for her big sister who is a huge help, even though she thinks it’s HER baby.

Hopefully I’ll be able to take them to enjoy the circus in a few years. =)

Today I am grateful that the Lord helped me to graduate my 18 year old dear son. Even with dyslexia to battle as we went along he finished strong with a 3.5 GPA. Praise God for leading us to home school him 10 years ago and keeping me strong along the way. 3 more blessings to go!

Thankful today for my new Nutrimill. Although i was excited to get it, I have just enjoyed looking at it on my cabinet for about 2 weeks because i didn’t want to get it dirty. I know, crazy huh? Today is the day! I just used it with some soft white wheat berries and boy is it remarkable. We are testing out three berry varieties today before purchasing our first bulk order with Azure this afternoon. Another thing to be thankful for, our first order with Azure!! Great day!! (and Laura, i had one of those “flour all over the kitchen” moments)

The circus is something that I won’t bring myself to do with my children. The life those animals bear for our entertainment breaks my heart….If anyone took the time to really learn about the life of circus animals, the circus would be out of business, or at least I hope it would.
