Last weekend we had some out-of-town guests stay with us during YC Homecoming. This particular weekend is definitely one of my favorites of the entire year. I love being able to have lots of people in our home, and being able to see people who come back to York for the weekend.
This year, my brother and his family weren’t able to come….so we only hosted my Dad and his wife Tacy, and our good friends Greg and Lisa.
Here are a few picture highlights of our weekend:
Here’s a few of us sitting around eating soup and cornbread.
I invited my uncle and cousin for dinner so that they would have a chance to visit with our guests.
We made the kids sit at the table to eat their soup so they wouldn’t spill it in the living room…
I suppose Matt and Greg felt like they’d better sit at the table too. :)
It was Lisa’s birthday, so we made a chocolate pound cake. Yum!
After dinner, we got out Family Fun Cranium and played together.
You can tell the adults are a little bit too full of soup…
I LOVE this picture of my dad with Elias!!! He sure loves his Papa.
Here are Justus and Tacy and I looking at pictures together.
Lisa and Tacy are playing Uno Attack with the boys after breakfast Friday morning. Seems like we always pull out a bunch of games over Homecoming weekend.
Lisa always takes the boys to Wal-mart each year and spoils them by letting them each pick out a toy. Notice how they each picked a new piece of weaponry. Like we don’t have enough. Oh, and Malachi also got a red cowboy hat. You’ve gotta love a ninja cowboy.
Isn’t he just the sweetest cowboy you’ve ever seen?
Lisa took this picture of the boys out with their pumpkins
One of my favorite parts of the weekend was that my dad was honored by York College to receive the “Alumni of the Year Award”. It was a well deserved honor. BUT, I knew in advance that he was to receive the award (no one else except Matt knew)…and I had the wonderful job of making sure he was at the chapel service so that he could accept the award. Shew. That guy was a tough one to convince…and he knew I was up to something. This isn’t a great picture…but here he is receiving the award from the President of the college.
I’m so grateful that our weekend with our family and friends was such a wonderful one! Thanks for letting me share some of it with you!

Laura,
It sounds like a great weekend. How wonderful for your Dad to receive such a great award. That must have been an exciting moment.
A couple that goes to church with us went to York. I wonder if you know them…
…or maybe it’s just like when people find out I am from Australia and they ask me if I know their long lost cousin!
I also wanted to tell you that I made your Turkey Stromboli – it was great. We all loved it.
Have a great week,
Stacy

I love the picture of the boys posing with their weapons…it’s looks so Charlie’s Angels – of course, in the most masculine way possible!
And yes, Malachi is the sweetest cowboy ever!

Since I don’t have a blog that I post publicly. I’ll just leave a comment. My mom will be visiting for the weekend since the kids are on Fall Break. I’m very excited because she will get to spend some time with the kids, we’ll get to do some shopping AND my hubby and I will get a date night and NOT have to pay a sitter! Woo Hoo, can’t ask for a better weekend than that! I have to say that our family is like yours in that we always drag out the games when we have company. I don’t know why we don’t do it more often when it’s just the four of us. I think the kids get tired of playing with just mom and dad and look forward to when we have other company!

What great memories for your kids to witness grandpa receiving an honor from the college.
I would love to visit York sometime. When I was at Oklahoma Christian (150 years ago) a youngman transferred from York. I didn’t know it exsisted until then. He always made York sound like a great place. You’re blessed to live near a Christian College. (I think?)

Hi,
So I’m a blog lurker. = ) I’ve been reading this blog for a while now. I love the recipes and healthy homemaking encouragement you have on your blog. I was wondering, is York College a COC Christian school in Nebraska? If so, I have friends who go there. I was a part of the AIM program at SIBI in Lubbock, Texas and several of my classmates went to York after they came back from the mission field. If none of this means anything to you, then nevermind, but if so, then we have much more in common than I thought we did!
God bless,
Andrea
