My Exciting Grocery Posts for the Week: Today’s Breakfast

With Turkey Sausage and prepared Hashbrowns in the freezer, breakfast this morning was a feast…yet very easy to put together!

Turkey Sausage, Hashbrowns, Creamy Orange Coolers , Fried Eggs and Apple Slices

I’m almost out of potatoes, so it was great to find one more bag of Hashbrowns in the bottom of the freezer! And I just can’t say enough about making up a bunch of Turkey Sausage for quick meals. Once they’re mixed up and frozen into patties, I just throw them in the pan to cook. SO EASY.

You should see my storage room now!!! So close to being finished and organized! What a great feeling. And now, I’m going outside to line up my boys for hair cuts.

By the way, you’ve probably noticed by now that I don’t always stick to my menu plan exactly. Some weeks I do…this week I’m not. It’s just working out that way. I had this turkey sausage/hashbrown meal scheduled for yesterday’s lunch, but we had it this morning instead. I figure if I at least have a meal plan, I can adjust as I need to. With my busy cleaning/organizing week…our menu plan is a little topsy-turvy. :)

Yesterday, I had so much fun hearing what you had for lunch (because I just get a big kick out of food and hearing what others are eating). So…you know what we had for breakfast…what did you have?

Well, we have chickens so we are getting at least 4 eggs a day so this morning we had Homemade Bread made into French Toast. UMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!! It was SO good. I’ve been trying to put food in our freezer. I keep hearing around here, “Mom you’re the best cook’er in the whole world!” Hey what can I say, you can’t mess with perfection. LOL!

We don’t really do breakfast around here, its more like a snack since we are late nighters, and get up about 9 or 10. So our snack to day was scrambled eggs and chicken salad leftovers with crackers.

We had oatmeal… I could eat it every single day!

I do have a question though… how do you make your turkey sausage patties ahead of time? The only turkey I can get here is frozen- Is it safe to thaw and refreeze? And if you know if it is safe for hamburger to be thawed out, made into patties, and then put back in the freezer; that would be great, too! (We bought our first half of beef yesterday, they froze it before we got it, and I am totally clueless!) Thanks ahead for any answers for this clueless woman! ;)

You CAN actually thaw the meat, make a hamburger patty (or in this case, turkey sausage patties), and refreeze. Here’s a post I wrote regarding this method: https://www.heavenlyhomemakers.com/flash-freezing-chicken-fried-steak-strips

I had also been told not to thaw and refreeze…but if you do it ONE time, it’s okay. (As in, you can’t thaw, refreeze…thaw again, refreeze again…).

Oh gahck, Laura! You would ask that question on the one morning we had cereal…. How bout I tell you we had oatmeal with apples, raisins, cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar, since that is what I made yesterday and it fits in so much more nicely with what everyone else had today. lol

Apple Cinnamon Steel Cut Oatmeal. We tried a new recipe. Although the texture was great, it needed a little sugar in addition to the apples and raisins.

I have been wanting to try making your turkey sausage for quite some time. Ground turkey is just as expensive here as ground beef (sometimes more expensive) so I haven’t tried it yet. But it is on my list of THINGS TO TRY.

Our usual breakfast is cake with sauce. The cake is made of water, oat flour, prunes, whole egg, egg white, kefir cheese, cinnamon, baking powder, vanilla, and Splenda sweetener. The cake cooks in the microwave in three minutes. The center remains fluid which makes a nice hot sauce for the dry part.

For a beverage with the cake, we have a mixture of water kefir and orange juice. After our morning walk we have half-strength decaf coffee made with mint leaves and cinnamon.

Oh, and I forgot, right now we also have black walnuts in the above. We only have those until they run out for the year. They are only sold here in early winter and I never manage to buy enough to last the whole year.

We had spaghetti for breakfast…. with homemade tomato sauce, grass-fed ground beef, parmesan cheese and fresh garlic. A cup of home-made dairy kefir, along with our usual breakfast vegetable juice, BlendTec-ed to perfection (ok, maybe not perfection, but we’re working on it!) accompanied the whole wheat concoction, which really holds my boys until lunch!
Your breakfast looks and sounds delightful, and I am going to add it to my 2011 spring/summer meal plan for breakfast on Fridays. Thanks so much!

I made your suggestion for hashbrowns yesterday pulled them out this morning and fryed them up. I could kiss you. What a blessing for me to have hashbrowns in 10 minutes. We also had sausage slight variation on your recipe. I precook it then freeze it and 30 sec in the microwave yum!!! Anyway I guess great minds think alike! And thanks again for the tip on the hashbrowns!

I am fascinated by what people eat, too! For breakfast my kids had greek yogurt w/ frozen blueberries & a little raw honey mixed in, along with turkey sausage and banana coconut flour muffins. We eat big breakfasts! I like to save my yogurt for a bedtime snack and I’m cutting back on sweets right now, so I had some leftover egg bake w/ a roma tomato, salsa, and cantaloupe.

My husband is not a foodie and he eats the same thing every day – dry frosted shredded mini-wheats. He splurges on the weekend and adds milk. Maybe, just maybe, I can talk him into eating gf oat pancakes tomorrow, since he has a holiday.

Oatmeal with butter and brown sugar — and toast (unbuttered) torn in to pieces and tossed in the oatmeal. This was what my grandmother ate for breakfast every day. I had decaf tea — also like my grandmother. :)

We had Wardeh’s delicious sourdough pancakes….as far as compromising organic…we do when we are guests at other homes and there are certain fruits and veggies I don’t compromise on such as items with thin skin. Can’t wait to see this store room…..

Well since my hubby worked graveyards last night and the cows were hungry we went and hauled hay first thing this morning then came home and I made bacon, fried eggs and toast….completely unhealthy but my family loved it! I was good and drink an orange juice protien shake and on half slice of bacon!
I found some ground turkey on clearance for 99 cents a pound last week…..have plans to make some turkey sausage this week with it…but not gonna tell my family and see if they notice the difference!

I had frozen sourdough buckwheat pancakes to use up, so I transformed them into Mickey cakes complete with organic dark chocolate chip eyes, nose, mouth and whipped cream for the inner ear. And of course I can’t forget a healthy drizzle of organic grade B maple syrup. I have yet to get in on the sale price for more syrup. I had *yawn* a piece of toast with a plain ‘ole egg on top. Not as exciting as the boys’ breakfast.

Laura, I had an ugly freezer once. I covered it with pretty contact paper. Then it was a pretty freezer. I hated to leave it when we moved. It took me 5 years to get a new freezer after that – just got it two weeks ago. My new one is pretty and white and shiny, but there is a part of me that misses my ivy-covered freezer. Just thought I’d share the idea, because somehow covering an ugly freezer with contact paper seemed like it might be right up your alley! :)
