Guess what I got for Christmas?! An Oster Hand Blender with Blending Cup. This is, of course, all thanks to you. Well, you and my Dad and his wife Tacy, who were kind enough to honor my eager immersion blender request.
So many of you suggested that my life just couldn’t go on if I didn’t have an immersion blender. I don’t think you really said it that intently, but after hearing all your rave reviews about how my work in the kitchen would be easier with an immersion blender, and knowing I could trust all of your fine advice, I put this item on my wish list. It was with much excitement that I opened a package that held this fine appliance. I am like a kid with a new toy.
Maybe now I can re-work my mayonnaise recipe and find out how to actually make the stuff. Maybe.
Hey, what did you get for Christmas?

What a great gift! A relative got my husband and I a $50 visa gift card and a good friend made me a cookbook. :)
Amanda says
Oh Laura you are going to LOVE it! I was never able to make decent mayo until I got a stick blender! To me it’s worth it for that alone, but I also use it several times a week to make creamy soups! SO handy!

Lovely gift~
I bought one this year and have really enjoyed it for creaming soups…
I even bought an ‘extra’ bottom attachment that I use just for soap making-this saved
instead of buying a whole new one. This way I just change out the bottom part :)
You’ll enjoy it.

A new waffle iron! My 40 year old hand-me-down worked fine and I didn’t ask for a new one, but wow, I love these big fluffy Belgian style waffles from my new iron!

I know you will love your new toy! I use mine to make apple sauce, tomato sauce, blended soups and babyfood. My husband gave me an 8 cup food processor, and I was so excited I made saukraut with it the very next day. We were both pleased with it, me because it was so big and sharp, him because it was so quiet. My old 2 cup one is very loud and sort of whines when I do something big like shred cabbage.
Amber J. says
My husband surprised me with a Cuisinart 12 cup food processor (with a 4 cup bowl insert). I can’t wait to put it to use!
Diane says
I also received an immersion blender a few weeks ago for my birthday. Have used it once already, can’t wait to try it more. Have fun!
Ivy Mae says
I got an immersion blender too! Mine is a Cuisenart, though. An immersion blender was practically the only thing I specifically requested. I already used it to blend cooked cauliflower for mashed “fauxtatoes” and it was awesome! I’m not big on kitchen appliances, but I think this will definitely improve quality of life (or maybe just dinner) around here! Glad you got one too!
Heather in Michigan says
My favorite new use is for frosting!! So light and smooth…
Melanie says
I got a crockpot to replace the one that got broke by my three year old ;-) But hubby promised me a food processor for my birthday which is coming in January (which was what I would have gotten for Christmas had I not needed my new crockpot for holiday cooking!).
I’m thoroughly jealous of Amber J…she got what I really wanted…lol!
Tara says
My husband got me a Keurig Coffee Brewer. He even got the reusable filter so I don’t have to have the K-cups! I love it!!
Lana says
The best gift ever—our oldest daughter announced that she is pregnant on Christmas Eve!!
shellie deckard says
Congratulations!!! Babies are such a blessing! We got a brand new grandson Dec. 22 So that was a pretty good Christmas gift too!
Sarah Mulholland says
Pain de Mie pan, french rolling pin with cutting board that has markings on it for rolling crust. I’m excited to get started! I have never had an immersion blender. I don’t have a blender at all. I’m trying to think of what I could use one for!
shellie deckard says
As mentioned above, our oldest daughter gave us a new grandson on Dec. 22! My second daughter made me a new shawl, my son got me a wonderful gardening book I’ve wanted for a long time, and my youngest daughter bought me an old fashioned white hob nail lamp (just my style!). And the best part is she got the lamp at a yard sale so environmentally friendly, thrifty, and exactly what momma likes all to boot!
Enjoy that immersion blender! I loved mine before it died. Hope to get another someday.
Janet says
I got an immersion blender too! Yes, please post a new mayo recipe!

My kids gave me an immersion blender :D It’s just a (cheap) Kalorik b/c Test Kitchen said they liked it best.
But they tried to fool me by putting a heavy can of spray foam in the Kalorik box ;-) {I think that was hubby’s idea}
…And Young Living essential oils, an OXO box grater, and a mocha java candle from Sugar Shack (which is right near you, Laura – Edgar, NE)
Still wishing for a new couch! but the laminate flooring comes first. : )
C. Dazey says
I got the exact same kind because of America’s Test Kitchen review of it.
Tiffani says
Yeah!! I was using mine on Christmas Day. You’ll love having one!
I got a new Crock Pot. I have four, but after the discussion here about led, I’d stopped using them. So bring on the crock pot recipes!!
I also go a 6 qt. Ceramic coated Lodge Dutch oven. Have you seen these? Oh my! If you like cooking in cast iron, you’ll love this! The bigger my boys get, the more food I’m cooking at one time and the bigger pots I’m needing.
Kristy says
Love these! We gave one as a gift this year!
My new kitchen toy is a panini press!
Beth says
I got a KitchenAid stand mixer from my generous inlaws–I am freaking out!! It was a total shock for me since I hadn’t ever suggested it, but all I could keep saying to my husband was “Look, it has a dough hook!” We are still away from home for Christmas and I can’t wait to get home and try it out. I have been using a $10 hand mixer that doesn’t even go fast enough to whip whipping cream, so it’s going to be a major improvement!
Angelina says
I got a KA stand mixer too. It’s FABULOUS; you’ll love it!! :-)
Yvonna says
I got a 23 Qt. Presto Pressure Canner/Cooker, a Innovations Knitting Machine and a camera. Of course there was cologne, footies and my hubby even picked out a beautiful top I can wear with my jumpers. I pray everyone had a blessed CHRISTmas and will have a safe and happy New Year!
Rebecca says
My hubby got the Cuisinart immersion blender for me, from COSTCO! Looking forward to using it, and all the attachments! Did you all know that Costco lets you return things at ANY TIME, whether 7 weeks or 7 years or ???? (except computers and tvs) They stand behind their products and want you to be completely satisfied. So we make a good majority of our purchases at Costco, for that reason. Don’t have the receipt? They can look it up in their computers if you know about when you bought it. :)

I have had my immersion blender for almost 20 years, hope yours will last just as long. I got a babycakes mini-donut maker for Christmas from my sister-in-law, can’t wait to nutrify (whole wheat, whole cane sugar, coconut oil, etc) their recipes and make them for my kids.
Jenny C. says
I don’t know who said women don’t like getting appliances for Christmas! I love it! I was shocked to open up a Kitchenaid Mixer for Christmas. I’ve already been putting it to good use, as I made bread today :)
Congrats on your stick blender! That’s next on my list kitchen appliances I’d like to get.
Camille says
Right?! When we first got married some kind gentleman told my husband never to get me anything with a cord! I told him to FORGET that advice!:-)
Hayley says
I got a stick blender too!! I’m so excited!! I used my sister’s for a soup once and LOVED it. I also had a soup explosion in my regular blender. Never again.
Jaime G says
I got a Babycakes Donut maker for Christmas. I was already able to make gluten free donuts in it. They came out amazing!
Jenifer Parker says
I got a Ninja Warrior stick blender and can hardly wait to try it out. I’m very interested in the ‘mayonnaise’ experiment. Please post asap. LOL
Beckie says
My husband is Mexican and the corn tortillas work alot better with a bit of lard it it. If you want maybe you can use coconut oil to keep them supple. You don’t need a tortilla press but they make it go faster. We really love homemade ones. Try it again.
gloria says
Beckie,
Maybe you could post that recipe?!
Camille says
My sweet father surprised me with a mammoth 11 cup Cuisinart food processor — with a dough blade!! The thing weighs about 2 tons so I think I’m going to need to make room on the counter for it. I about flipped out as I wasn’t expecting that big box to be for me! :-)
Stacy @Stacy Makes Cents says
I have this exact one and I LOVE IT!!! :-)
Meg says
Ha ha ha I’m so tired I read this as “Oyster Immersion Blender” and I thought “oh disgusting are there people who blend their oysters? Is that a thing?” But on the positive side I trust your site so much that I immediately started reading to find out the benefits of blended oysters, thinking hey maybe it’s worth a look. :) Gross. I am so relieved to know I can draw the line at green smoothies that are 100% oyster-free.
Laura says
That is so funny! Yum…blended oysters. As soon as I figure out a good recipe for those, I’ll be sure and post it. :)
Becki says
I got an immersion blender for Christmas too! From my 12 year old son, who saved his hard earned money and bought it for me! Mine was broken (ducked tape together) and only worked part time. Mainly use it for making mayonaise, which the whole family completely loves. Definitely a sweet, sweet gift.
Karen says
I received an 8-cup food processor :) It was a very welcome addition to my kitchen! I have been using one of those tiny little “food choppers” from the dollar store for a while now to not only chop up vegetables, but to also grind steak into hamburger meat (LONG process with the tiny thing!). Next items on my list…Nutri-Mill and a tortilla press! :)
