So I think I remember seeing that you have a smooth top stove? If so, is cast iron really ok to use on one? I currently have a broken top(broken before we moved in our new house, not sure how it was broken), and am nervous about using cast iron when we replace the cooktop, as some say not to. Curious of other’s experiences with cast iron on smooth glass cooktops.

I did have a glass top, until last week when my oven gave out! Now I have a regular, coil top. BUT, my cast iron worked fine on my glass top. I used it for eleven years without a problem!

I’ve never had luck frying or making scrambled eggs on cast iron. I always wind up with black flecks in the eggs and most of the egg remains stuck to the pan. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Any tips for successful eggs on cast iron?

I use lots of butter along the bottom of the pan each time I make eggs. That helps quite a bit!

I try to oil mine after every use and so far it has worked wonderful for frying eggs. That is the only trick I know to do. I hope you find something that helps.

I found a coconut oil cooking spray from Trader Joe’s that I always use when I make fried eggs on my cast iron skillet. I spray the pan before I put the eggs on and, if they are sticking at all, I can spray the top of them before I flip them over so they don’t stick on either side. I use that spray for my bread pans every week too. I love it!

I believe that once you scratch that glass top stove it doesn’t look too good. Mine is black
and I am really afraid of using the cast iron on it. I could use a few more confirmations.

Warning! Lodge brand uses soy oil to season their cast iron. Most likely gmo soy, as non-gmo soy is nearly non-existant in this country. People with soy allergies (and those not wanting to be permanently damaged by gmo’s) should beware.

These are good prices. I usually buy mine used and reseason them. I use a light wipe of coconut oil before storing. My stove is a flat top, black and I use cast iron all the time. I am currently learning to use a Dutch oven over hot coals and on a camping stove in case of an emergency. Spouse built an old fashioned camping stove in the back yard from old Forest Service 1930 camping pictures.
