Since I didn’t need to cook for the soccer team today…and since I have fresh peppers coming out my ears…I decided to make salsa.
Mmmm…my house smells good.
I usually plant chili peppers and use those for my salsa instead of jalapenos. Most of the people at our house don’t really like their salsa very hot. The chili peppers make our salsa just right.
(I’m sorry I can’t share my salsa recipe with you. It was my mom’s special recipe. You wanna hear that story sometime? It makes me very happy.)
What I’m curious about today is: How do you like your salsa?
Are you a hot salsa kind of a person…or do you like yours mild? Do you like steam coming out of your ears when you take a bite or would you rather just have just a tiny bit of spice? Or, do you even like salsa?
I have a friend who’s ten year old boy would eat a big bowl of hot salsa like soup if she let him. Wow. Somebody hand that kid a chip. And a big glass of water. And a Tums.

i was SO hoping for your salsa recipie!! I made some earlier this month and I hated it. Guess i’ll have to go browse some more recipies…. lol. yours looks great!!
I’ve never tried my hand at homemade salsa. I’m not a huge fan, but my husband is. I prefer mild… the milder the better. In fact, I make a dip of black beans, diced tomatoes, and corn that is as Plain Jane as they come. It’s my favorite! Hubby likes his a bit spicier, but not so much that you have no taste buds left.
I’ve never made homemade salsa either. We love Frontera’s Roasted Jalapeno Salsa, its hot, but so good!
MMmm, salsa!! I like mine spicy, my husband likes his super spicy(I think his taste buds are seared!). My girls like a teeny tiny bit of spice. We generally have two bowls in order to accomodate. My hubby just adds extra heat to his own.
I have a question about canning the salsa. Does it change the flavor at all? I’ve wanted to can some so that it’s always handy but I’m worried if that happens.
Mmmmmmm. I LOVE your mom’s salsa recipe! Now I am craving some homemade salsa! Oh, and I like mine fairly mild. (And you really should share that story–it’s awesome!)
I love pico de gallo, but since I am pregnant I dislike onions. This might sound strange, but my current ‘salsa’ of choice is a can of diced tomatoes and green chilies (sp?). I dump the can into a salsa jar and no one is the wiser. My sister even asked what kind it was, and I admitted it was from a can and cost me about 50 cents for the entire jar plus what I had eaten on a burrito the night before.
With all the cherry tomatoes I keep picking, I am about to try making pico de gallo again, this time with green onions instead of yellow.
LOVE your mama’s salsa! In fact, I think I have one more jar in the pantry that I don’t want to crack open b/c then it will all be gone. =(
I like my salsa spicy, and i have a few recipes that I alternate between making. One is really fresh w/ tomatoes, beans, corn (the one I brought at Mem Day), and the other one is from all canned stuff plus a jalapeno and green onions…so yummy. Now I’m craving salsa!
The salsa looks yummy!
I like it mild, but I also like how when i make it from home, it turns out a bit different everytime…just depends on what we have and how much cilantro I think I can dump in without everyone having cilantro overload! =)
I’m a Texas born and raised girl and I want to be able to feel the kick from the salsa. Give me Jalapenos please! That being said it has to be good tasting salsa though. I don’t like the heat just for the heat. It needs fresh tasty tomatoes and plenty of fresh cilantro too. So count me in the heat with flavor category!
Look at all your salsa! Looks great!
Fairly mild on the spice scale, but high on the cilantro for me. I love the smell and taste of cilantro.
Today, I made a couple jars of canned salsa, my first ever, and I’m really interested to see how they taste. We’ll be getting more tomatoes from the garden and if we like the taste of the salsa, I’ll make more.
Since making my own salsa I’ve discovered I like more of a relish concoction with more peppers and onions and less tomatoes. I discovered that by just canning the leftovers after making salsa, not wanting to waste the extras I had chopped up. Now I know why the store salsas were never very good, they are all tomato. I like a little heat and lots of flavor. I have not noticed that canning changed the flavor.
I just made 15 pints of salsa on Saturday. I like mine medium hot…my siblings like it very hot but our home grown peppers aren’t that hot this year. In these pictures your salsa looks nice and thick. How did you get it like that? Mine is very runny. Also, I made your tomato sauce recipe from your e-book today. So much easier than using the squeezo. Just throwing them in the blender made it so fast! Thanks:-)
