Happy January 1, 2010!
The big talk everywhere is about New Year’s Resolutions. Even though I’ve been hearing the talk about it, I never gave it much thought until today. I think I was too busy scrubbing the crud off the top of my refrigerator.
Resolutions? Goals for the year? I still haven’t made any.
I don’t know why.
I feel like a work in progress right now. In addition, I feel like my kids are a BIG work in progress right now…at PRIME ages (5-12) to really encourage godly attitudes and spiritual growth.
So I don’t have any specific goals.
I have some ideas that I’m praying about involving this site and what I’d like to share with you and create this year. I also have some specific parenting issues on my heart regarding what my husband and I should be focusing on with the kids.
Beyond that…I feel like I’m just taking life a day at a time right now. Not because anything bad or difficult is going on. Actually…life is fantastic and full and wonderful right now. But, I didn’t set any goals last year and found that God had plenty of amazing goals and ideas of His own for me and for our family. I kinda feel like just praying about the year and then listening to the direction God takes us.
What about you? Did you set goals for yourself this year? Do you feel God placing any specific plans and goals on your heart for you and your family during the upcoming months? Or are you just kinda winging it, like me?
Yes, I did set some goals for myself. I’m finding that putting them down is helping me to actually do them.

I just had 3. Personal- clean and organize, Spiritual- quiet time and prayer a daily priority, Physical- eat well and exercise. Those are my main focuses and everything else stems from that!
yeppers. Main one for me, consistency with prayers, discipline and exercise.
It depends. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. I think I set goals for the new upcoming year when I am in a new season of my life. Last year I didn’t set goals; I was like you, just taking each new day. However, this year I did. I am very excited to see what God has in store for me this year =)
You have inspired mine. I am going to eat out WAY less and cook from scratch more. We need to stay healthy, so I need to revamp our eating habits. I am constantly telling people about you and how you barely go out to eat and how I wish I could do that. We’ve been eating at home a lot lately and noticed we are feeeling better and less stressed. So, I think this is a step in the right direction.
My husband and I are purposing ourselves to read the Word together consistently and spend more time praying together. We’re also on a huge financial overhaul using Dave Ramsey’s plan, so we’re writing financial goals like crazy, otherwise we wouldn’t know where we’re headed right now!!! Thanks for all the inspiration and encouragement!
Hi there, I’ve only commented on your site a couple of times, hope you don’t mind me joining in on this post. I’m definitely setting the goal of spending more time reading the Bible and praying, plus spending more time teaching my children about Jesus. Personally, more exercise and eating healthier. Homewise- more organized, living more simply.
To Danielle: My husband and I went through the Dave Ramsey plan a couple of years ago – you’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll sleep at night once those credit card bills/cards are gone!!! It’s quite a lot of fun to cut the cards up :-) I pray that you’ll have great success with your goals.
Happy New Year
We sat down on New Year’s Eve and reflected on the past year(2009) and talked about our aspirations for 2010. We plan on eating healthier and exercising as we prepare to turn 40 in about a year. We are starting our own business this year. We don’t consider them resolutions but plans for the new year. Somehow if we call them resolutions we don’t get them done. 2010 is going to an exciting year!
Happy New Year! Amy
I, too, have decided to take one day at a time. Too overwhelming to think beyond that. I always have godly charater installation in the back of my mind when I am interacting with my kids, but that has to take the form of the moment most of the time.
My DH was asking the kids this morning what they thought God would have them attempt in 2010… Reading through the Bible and memorizing a chapter or short book (and getting healthy – hack, sniff) were discussed =)
A friend suggested her motto for 2010 would be Discipline, and I jumped on board with that one (beginning with our individual devotional time– and working down to parenting/homeschooling responsibilities)
I’m re-reading a series by Nancy Leigh DeMoss called First Things First. Very Good. (perhaps I should re-read monthly?!) Soo, I’ve already determined to restrict my computer time – again – it’s a constant temptation, especially with blogging… so I’d better stop yakking here! ;-)
Ah, being the consummate list maker that I am, I do set goals for the coming year, but have learned to keep them simple and specific. I’ve posted about some of the goals, hoping to keep myself accountable – http://girlstogrow.blogspot.com/2010/01/physical-goals-for-2010.html
I agree with you. I’m not huge on new year’s goals or resolutions, but as I said on my blog, there are some thoughts that my husband and I discussed, but it’s more about having the chance to start fresh and think about the future intentionally. But as life goes, I just live it one day at a time! :) Happy New Year!
I have made a few goals for 2010, most of which involve getting healthier, organizing my home and being frugal. A pretty tall order, but there’s something about a New Year that makes it feel like a fresh start
I have learned that for myself, it’s better not to set lots of goals, because it becomes stressful to try to achieve them. I pick one thing I want to focus on. Last year, it was getting my home more organized, and keeping it picked up “most” of the time. This year, I need to spend more time with God. Sadly, I cannot remember the last time that I picked up my Bible. I pray, alone, and with my husband, but I don’t spend as much time in the Word as I need to.
I’m like you with the cleaning thing. New Years cleaning is SO much better than Spring Cleaning!
