While it may sound like I’m already bored with this conversation and have nothing better to say or ask…that’s really not true.
I just really want to know how the weather is where you live.
Why? Because the weather where I live is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.
It’s freezing cold here with highs in the negatives. Wind chills are making our temps WAY below zero. The snow keeps coming. I’ve never seen so much snow. I don’t see how it could possibly go away by May. Looking out my kitchen window, you can’t tell that our picnic table has legs. Or a table top. There’s just this little piece of wood “floating” among a lot of whiteness. I’d go out and take a picture for you, but my boots just aren’t that tall.
Here in Nebraska, we’re used to crazy cold weather…but I’ve NEVER seen it be this constantly snowy and blowy and crazy for days and days and days and days.
And days.
Matt told me that there’s a day next week that it might actually get up to 18°! I’m so excited!! That, my friends, will actually feel like a really nice day. We may be able to get away with only wearing three layers that day instead of six.
Anyway, I’m not really trying to complain…I’m just exclaiming over the craziness of this winter. It is really, really weird.
The reason I am asking about the weather where you live is twofold. First, if it’s crazy cold where you are too…we can commiserate together about it. Second, if it’s really warm and nice (like anything above 25°), I would like to rejoice with you and live vicariously through you for a moment.
Huh…I believe that’s the first time I’ve ever used the word twofold in my life. It was kind of fun.
Janet says
I would venture to say that it is ‘nice’ here in southeastern pa. It snowed 2″ last night, and after we shoveled our cars, the pavement dried… so, it was definitely above freezing today! I still think it’s very cold, but I am quite a wimp when it comes to cold, and if the wind chill is in the teens, I will be staying INSIDE!! Good luck in the extreme cold! I can’t even begin to imagine it!
Heather says
Hey Janet,
Where are you? i’m in Lancaster PA! :) I love finding “Locals”…
Janet says
We are in West Chester. My favorite natural foods store is Miller’s Natural foods in Bird-in-Hand PA.
Mrs. Pear says
It was a balmy 25C here today in Southern CA, I would have worn shorts but we spent the afternoon at the Children’s Hospital for pre-op, so while I did not get to enjoy the beautiful weather I did rejoice that it was not raining and making the freeways crazy! :-)
HappyHermit says
Iowa here , I think the highest we got this week was 18 and that was directly before sun down
Michelle says
I am in northern Florida. If we get below zero tonight we will set a record for the number of consecutive days with below 0 temps. It is cold here since our average highs are in the 60s and lows in the 40s but this year our highs have been in the 40s. I know many of you are dealing with temperatures much colder but when you don’t own anything heavier than a windbreaker, this is hard. Stay warm.
Jenny says
I’m in Western NC, and I was going to tell you how cold it was, but now I’m embarrassed. The high today was around 25 degrees, so it is cold, but NOTHING like what you described! We’re having more snow than usual, but only about an inch at a time, and then it melts off. And freezes again (the lows are around 9 degrees) I’m sure you’re getting stir-crazy, staying in the house all the time. Bless your heart.
Michelle says
Woops I meant below freezing not below zero. I think in Celsius and tried converting the temps to degrees Fahrenheit for you. Sorry for the mix up.
Laura says
I would trade places with you. I live near Seattle, WA and we only got snow (about 1″) one day here this winter (and it melted the same day). Other than that, highs and lows are in the 40s and it’s been raining almost constantly or just cloudy since around November. I miss the four seasons. The seasons here are dry (so much so that you’re required to water your lawn where I live) and rain!
Jen B says
Up here in SE Michigan we finally got snow yesterday. About 2-3 inches. That’s really it for snow. It’s been really weird. If it snows, it’s only an inch or less, and it melts the next day. It’s getting down to 13 overnight. Not sure about the windchill. Highs are upper 20s-lower 30s.
Kaitlin says
Super cold in southeast Texas! Our high today was in the low 30s with wind chills in the teens. We don’t handle cold weather very well (the home improvement stores sold out of pipe insulation and faucet covers days ago). Wish we would get some snow with temps this cold, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen this time!
Jennifer says
In eastern Ohio, most of our schools had 4-5 snow days this week. It just keeps a-coming! I think it’s beautiful, but our picnic tables just have heaps of snow on them. They still sort of have legs. If you’d like to do a little happy dance, I think we hovered near 25 once this week! :)
becca banana says
Dark and dreary.
Occasional rain.
Oregon! What do you expect?!
Martha says
I live in southwestern Mississippi, and it is bitter cold at 19 degrees. The high today was 26. No snow or rain–just COLD. But I know it will not stay this cold for very long. I will commiserate with you for a few days. That is the first time I have used the word “commiserate”. :-) Now, can you commiserate with me when our summer temperature is 100 degrees and very humid? :-)
April says
I’m with you sister! I’m in Missouri, but it’s the same story. Sure, it gets cold here in the winter, but I’ve never seen anything like this. We have two outside walls in our bedroom, and they were both freezing to the touch today. We do live in an older house, but I’ve never had that happen! It won’t stop snowing, and yesterday the snow we already had was blowing all over the place. Not sure what the actual temp was, but the windchill got to -23 this week. NEGATIVE TWENTY-THREE.
Global warming my behind. ;)
April says
Ooh, I just checked the weather, and Sunday we’re supposed to get to a high of 25! It’s gonna feel like summer!!!
Holly says
Well in temperate Virginia we actually had 18 inches of snow in DECEMBER! We haven’t had that much snow in any month in almost 10 years. And though it’s mostly gone now, we had another inch yesterday and maybe some more tonight. It’s been in the mid-20s all week and we are just not built for this here! I’ve had to hang blankets up in all the windows because they’re so poorly installed. :(
Lenetta @ Nettacow says
Your weather is my weather . . . I just wanted to pop on and mention that back in the winter of 87-88 (I think) I remember being kept inside at recess because it was -20 during the day. BRR. I’ve been staying close to the corn stove!!!
Char says
I really shouldn’t answer this, should I? It’s 8 p.m. and 47 degrees here in Las Vegas. I think we had a high of 65 or so this afternoon. Definitely no snow around here. I’m feeling for you guys… AND probably for the first time in a long time, I’m NOT missing Nebraska right now… :-)
Denise says
I live in China and last week we went to another city to do a training, the lows were in the single teens, which isn’t so bad for a girl from MN. It also snowed 4 inches which is unheard of here!! BUT the apt we stayed in was sooooo cold all week. I ended up with a sore throat and a bad cold. Today I am back in Beijing with a high of 31 F. It sounds great, but I won’t be going out in it.
Courtney says
This is by far the coldest, snowiest winter I every remember. Ever. We are in Southern Minnesota and we have several feet of snow since the week of Christmas accompanied by severely cold temperatures. At least one day in the past week it was -30, ACTUAL TEMPERATURE, not windchill! I’ve lost track of how many days the schools have been closed, today they were closed due to wind chills. My kids are just happy that we keep plugging along and will be out LONG before all the other kids.
Jodi says
We (in Ohio) do not have a lot of snow and the temps are around 20 but the wind is crazy and the wind chills are really low! Are your boys going stir-crazy? Mine are and it’s just too cold to go outside!
Laura @ Bloggin' Mama says
Judging by the posts I’ve been seeing on Twitter the last few weeks and the comments here, it seems like it’s unseasonably cold in A LOT of states. I’m Colorado and we’ve had some crazy weather also. The next few days are going to be scorchers, though (in the 40’s)!! I heard on a weather forecast before Christmas that we’d had the coldest pre-Christmas week in many, many years (actual temps for several days in the -20’s). It’s been above 0 – but not above freezing – for the last 10 days though!!
Laura says
Colorado here. It’s cold but no snow where I’m at. What’s the point of it being so cold if it’s not going to snow??? I love the snow, but I’m sure I would be sick of it if I lived in NE. Hang in there, Laura!
Pamela says
We have lived in Central Florida for 17 months now…and this is crazy cold weather for them…highs in the 50’s with lows down in the 20’s!! But we LOVE it!!! Because there is no rain. Having lived in Oregon for 32 years, I like cold weather with sun! The weather has been crazy all over the US! Just hanging on ’till it gets warmer. Then you can come celebrate with us and play on the beach without the crowds!! Winter in Florida…it’s not so bad! Stay warm!
Brandy says
We’re in Wyoming … for the past few days our highs have been in the negatives, with windchill putting it at -13 to -25. During the night, we’ve been having -20 to -28 temps.
Haven’t gotten a whole lot of snow with that last artic blast, though. Maybe 2 inches. That’s added to the couple of inches we already had.
It warmed up a bit today … got into the 20s … still supposed to be -8 tonight.
This is our first winter out here and we’re enjoying the crazy weather lol
All next week, though? 30s and 40s during the day.
Laura E. says
It was cold here the past few days, but it’s supposed to be in the 40’s for the next five days… Maybe you should’ve stayed in Colorado… :-P
Melinda says
I’m in KC. I’m originally from Arkansas, and I think I can safely say I’m colder than I ever have been before. My fingers are constantly cold. I’m ready for spring. I only hope my flower bulbs haven’t died from all the bitter cold. (it is currently 4 degrees with a predicted -4 low tonight.)
Jodie says
NE Wisconsin here – and it is cold. I think yesterday was near 30, but it was windy and snowy. Right now it is 9 degrees. Last week it was below zero. Next week it is supposed to be near 30! My aunt emailed me today, she is in Hawaii for work, I was a little jealous!
Becky says
I’m in Lincoln so I feel your pain! I’m so over winter! Actually I’m moving to Wyoming in another week and my husband has told me there is no snow on the ground out there…woohoo! I can’t remember what that is like :)
Amy Lynne says
It’s been running around 40-50 here, but it is wet and foggy and gray. This California girl does not like being cold, I would have to hibernate if we lived in Nebraska! Bless your heart! I hope you get some relief soon!!
Becky says
Okay – it’s not crazy cold here like it is where you are, but for the SOUTH – it’s COLD!!! I’ve been cold for days. I can’t seem to warm up. Today it was 21 – at what is the warmest part of the day! – and with the wind chill, they say it felt like it was 8. And it’s been like that all week. Our overnight lows have been in the teens. I know that must seem like a heat wave when your temps are in the negative, but like I said, we live in the South. We still have piles of snow on the ground from a rare, before Christmas snow that fell a week before Christmas. Trust me, that’s just unheard of, especially since it’s rained at least three times since then. It should have all melted off long ago – like at least three days before Christmas!
Global WHAT? – don’t say warming. Don’t even suggest we should be concerned about “Global Climate Change”. I would love a little “climate change” about now. Besides, if we were supposedly responsible for the warm weather, then a few too many of us suddenly got a little too concerned for the environment all at once. Maybe we should all switch back to incandesent bulbs tomorrow.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, but the activity on the keyboard helps keep my fingers warm!
Jen says
We live just outside of Chicago, and it is cold and snowy here too, though not quite as bad as you describe. We have about a foot of snow, and it’s 11 degrees right now. Tomorrow the low is 1 degree. Highs have been in the teens and 20’s. It’s supposed to hit the 30’s on Wednesday. I’m ready for spring!!! :(
Meg says
Heh… so over here in sunny California…
It’s been in the balmy (albeit foggy) upper 40’s here all week.
I hope Nebraska’s worth it the rest of the year! I’m not so sure I love snow enough to want to live in it for a full season! :)
Jennifer3 says
Um, here in my part of Southern CA it has been strangely warm for this time of year- like mid to upper 70’s. I felt a little guilty today when my boys went out and played in the sprinklers, like I should have told them no just because everywhere else was freezing. They had so much fun though I couldn’t turn them down. On the other hand they are begging to see some snow!
Camille says
It’s a balmy 60 degrees here in Las Vegas. Slightly warmer than usual and I’m loving it! We left the MI snow behind 5 years ago and haven’t missed it once.
sarina says
a lurker here, i never really comment, but wanted to say hi from the sierra foothills in california… high today at my house was 69 degrees, sunny, clear blue skies and beautiful! we got snow here about a few weeks ago, too… i definitely enjoy where we live, because we get “seasons” but nothing crazy!
(stay warm!!)
Nicky says
Kansas here….and its the same as you. School canceled for several days due to snow and wind chill. Can’t keep the house warm because it is just so bitterly cold out. Andi type this as my hubby is on a mission trip in Haiti with 92* weather. Lucky guy! Brrrrrrrrr
Barb says
Okay I may have everyone beat here but I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. But we did have a heat wave today, kind, of it was only 18 below compared to the 40 below we had last week. So I may have to come to Nebraska for a heat wave ;)
Jamie says
Hot over here in Australia.
Today it was 99F. Tommorrow they are predicting 106F and then the same for a few days after that.
Jennifer says
Cool here by the coast of NC, possibly about 40 degrees. So, so, so jealous of all your snow :( We have none!
lcg says
I’m here in Africa during the wet season, so it’s probably around 70ish with alternating sun and torrential downpours. Everything smells wonderful.
Shelly W. says
BBBRRRRRRR. I’m in Dallas. Temps between 20-25 and windchills in single digits. We can only WISH for snow and ice with temperatures like this. When it snows and ices here – the whole city shuts down, stays in front of their fireplaces and has quality family time. I think it should snow a couple of inches once a month!
Sally says
It’s pretty stinkin’ cold here, but not as cold as where you are. I contemplated a road trip to see you b/c we don’t have any snow here….and I think if it’s going to be this cold, we should at least have some snow!! At least the sun is shining. But, Maybe we wouldn’t even be able to find you if we ventured up there, huh? =) Stay warm and safe!
{ jamie } says
Ours is not quite as cold as yours but it’s still mighty cold for Georgia: highs below freezing, night temps in the teens, windchill around zero or in the single-digits. I remember having occasional days like this in winter, but never for this long!
Jeannie says
I’m in NW Lower MI near Lake Michigan and we have had constant snow, blow and cold. BUT, I awoke to a sunrise on the couch (where I slept with my sick son). What a beauty snow is in the glistening sun – keep your chin up – it will come out again.
Jodi says
It’s been about 70 here in Phoenix all week, the boys have been able to play outside everyday after naps. Our favorite months are January/February, makes the 110’s in the summer bearable!
jamie says
It has been in the 20’s here the past few days in my part of Kentucky. We have just come out of a three inch blizzard. ;-)
Becky C says
Laura, Our highs here are in the mid to lower thirties. We were promised the possiblility of snow two days agao, and were bummed when it did not arrive. I tell you what, between the two of us, we’ll come up with enough $$ to rent a refrigerator truck. Then you and your four boys can fill it with snow, come over here and we’ll enjoy the snow and the 30* weather together with my three boys. Sound good??????? :P
Dawn says
Here in the lowcountry of South Carolina, we are freezing our, uhm, well, our tushies off. Highs in the 30s to 40s if we’re lucky. Lows in the teens where I live. Hasn’t been this cold here in years. The fireplace runs non-stop, all day long. All schoolwork takes place in front of said fireplace because nobody wants to sit in the freezing kitchen!!
Going to bed is not a fun thing, although I keep reminding them that the Ingalls family had NO heat, and Laura and Mary had to sleep up in that loft! HA! The kids have played outside every single day though. Gloves, scarves, sock hats and coats, and off they go for hours. They come in with rosy cheeks and fingers that I am sure are gonna fall right off when they get under warm water. LOL! And no end in sight yet!!
Wish we had snow.
Dawn
Jessica in KC says
Here in KC, it’s crazy-cold, and the snow keeps coming here, too. I’ve lived here for almost 8 years…this is the first winter in which the snow didn’t melt a day or two after it arrived. We’ve had snow on the ground since just before Christmas! Next week, they’re predicting highs in the 30s- I think it’ll feel like a heat wave, since our highs have been in the single-digits!
Sarah says
It’s been snowing here in SW Lower Michigan for a week now and the piles at the sides and ends of my driveway are taller than I am, or would be if a wonderfully nice neightbor had the guy who was plowing her driveway to plow us out too and push the piles back. As it is, I have pretty much filled in the space he cleared with more snow almost to the height of the original piles. You can’t really tell that my husband cleared a 12 foot wide circle in the center of our backyard for a snow cave, except for the mountain in the middle of it. I’ve had a hard time staying warm in my house (partly because we have a strict thermostat temp of 65-68, but even the pot of water on the stove isn’t helping a ton – unless you go outside for a while, then come back in…then it feels like the Caribbean).
How are you keeping your boys occupied? Mine want to be outside all the time, so we bundle up and go play in the snow. It’s even more tempting with the mountains of plowed snow from the church parking lot right behind us. We’re talking a good 9-12 ft tall. There was one day this last week where there was a good 6-10 in of snow on the whole parking lot. We may be getting a break from the snow for a little while, but we have been getting some sort of lake effect every day, even if it’s just an inch or so.
Good luck staying warm! Our temp right now is 10*, so I feel ya with the layers, girl!
Stacey says
Right now, in the most southern part of Manitoba, Canada, it’s -24 Celsius, which is around -11 Fahrenheit. That’s been the norm for the past week or so. Anyone for global warming? Haha :)
Jenn says
Normally we would have 4 – 6 feet of snow… but it is warm and raining! I miss the snow. The kids just play in the mud. I am so tired of mud.
Tina says
Hello, here in sunny Michigan it is a balmy 26 degrees. We are going hiking today and only wearing TWO layers. Enjoy, lol! I just found your blog a couple of days ago when searching for things to make from the raw milk we are going to start having delivered soon, I can’t wait! I love your site, you do a great job and are very inspirational.
Betsy says
Here in West Central Ohio, we are having at least a week’s worth of snow. It is either very fine, or sometimes looks like I’m in a snow globe looking out. It’s about 20 degrees but we’ve been down below 10 degrees a lot lately. This is cold for us. We’re the area that had the fatal accident of four people in a bus killed two days ago by an empty tanker truck that has been on the national news. Please pray for the families affected and the fire and emergency people as they adjust to this horrible accident on I-70. My mom knew all four who were killed.
Jeree B says
Low in the 40s, high today in the 70’s. =)
We haven’t used our heat in a month, and it is 65 inside this morning. I love the desert! (I’m in Phoenix)
janna says
Well, I live in Sunny Brownsville, Texas (we are on the border of Mexico and Texas) We are having unusual coldness down here. It got as low as the 20’s! No snow, though. No one here has a fireplace and cold seems to scare everyone! We have only lived here 6 months, so I am still getting used to the heat and humidity. :-0
Steph says
Here in central Texas it’s supposed to reach 45 today. It makes the electric bill easier to manage, but we make up for it in the summer when it’s scorching!
Cindy says
I live in Arizona, and this past week we’ve had highs in the 70’s (although yesterday was chillier and windier- probably a high of 65 or so!) I couldn’t ever live anywhere else, even though the summers are so hot!
Jessica says
We’re sunny today in northern NC but “cold”. We’ve been in the upper 30’s to low 40’s during the day, and upper teens to 20’s at night. I’m ready for spring!!!
Rhonda says
It was super cold this week, (I’m in a small town in Kansas) but about every time we have a wintery storm that is suppose to hit us…it seems to just pass us on by. Truthfully, I would like one really good snow this winter. lol Yes, I know…I’m unusual..I like snow.
Alicia says
Here in South Arkansas it is unusually cold. We have mild winters. It does not normally get below freezing. But it has been in the teens at night and low 30’s during the day. We are definitely not used to this much coldness or prepared for it! No snow though.
emily anderson says
well…they were predicting snow flurries down here in orlando, FL!!! haven’t seen any yet though! it would have been the first time in 20 years!
melanie says
Emily, I was once in Orlando – I think it was Jan 1977 – way more than 20 years ago. ;-)
I remember it was cold – pics of me in my winter coat.
We drove home through “Kentucky’s worst snowstorm in X number of years!”
Cindy says
Sorry I can’t commiserate with you. It’s been in the high 70s for more than a week (today is supposed to be 77). Southern California…come to our blog to live vicariously through the pictures of what we’ve been doing in the sun!
Betsey Caballero says
Central Virginia is experiencing the longest COLD spell it has had in a while. Highs are in the 30’s with windchills in the teens. Other than 2 feet of snow the week before Christmas, the cold has yet to bring about more white stuff. Wish it would!
Renee says
I live in Roanoke and it has been the same here. Im with I wish it would bring some more snow.
God bless
Jenn says
I’m from southeastern Pennsylvania. It is 27 degrees, with a windchill of 18 degrees, pretty normal January weather around here. Although, we did get some crazy snowstorms in December (it never snows in December around here).
Monica says
Northern Minnesota is cold. We had a balmy -18 this morning and my body is accustomed to it. We might even get to 10 above tomorrow! The wind is what makes it so unbearable. Close to two feet of snow lies on the ground.
What do we do? We bought the children snowboarding passes (and snowboards from a garage sale. And they beg to go sledding. Our pastor made a mountain of snow for an awesome sledding hill and a skating rink in the middle of our small town. Make the most of it for this too shall pass. The rare 14″ snow two years ago in April was not appreciated though.
And we are getting excited to see the sun shining at 5 PM as the days get longer!
Sharon says
I live in the Dallas area and it is cold! We’ve seen several days where the lows are in the teens and the highs in the 20’s to low 30’s. Very unusual for this part of the country. It has already snowed 3 times this year including a bunch of snow on Christmas Eve… the first time we’ve had a white Christmas in 80 years. Next week it will be in the 50’s. I can’t wait!
melanie says
I expect our weather matches yours pretty well, Laura – although we haven’t had the worst of it. (we’re in central Iowa) An hour ago, the bank’s time/temp said it was up to -6! Earlier this morn it was more like -17. We just had another blizzard on Thursday, then sunshine yesterday and today. We have some incredible snowdrifts.
Oh, and we have a house under construction – still without roof and windows – so my husband has had to shovel snow out of it as well! :-(
We are looking forward to temps in the +20’s again someday… warm enough to build inner walls and roof, but not melt into a mess… yet.
Melissa Fawley says
Here in VA it’s been really cold. We’ve had one really good snow – 20 inches the week before Christmas but it stayed so cold we still had it on the ground for Christmas. To be honest, I wish we’d get another. I love snow and for the last several years we might get a couple of inches – but there’s always hope for this year. I know – unusual – to like snow! Laura, my children and I would love to be in Nebraska!
Linda says
I have to laugh at the term warm and nice associated with anything above 25°! Because it’s NOT warm…we currently have a high of 34° here in Columbia, SC. There is wind, which of course makes it chillier.
I am, however, from the north (Northern Maine, to be exact), so this is quite tolerable…considering what others are experiencing. So..well, I guess it IS nice and warm here…lol!
Christine (France) says
We live close to Paris and for the first time in 21 years, we have extremely low temperatures, a lot of snow (we do not have snow every year, far from it !), and schools are closed since wednesday (maybe until next thursday) because school buses and trucks are not allowed to drive : villages and even small towns don’t have the equipment required to fight snow and icing. We have electric heating, and electricity is very expensive here, so I put a lot of wood in the fire place, wake up several times in the night to put wood in it to warm our house : that never happened before ! I hope you are all equiped and safe !
Kristy Howard says
We are having strange weather here in Texas too. It’s been getting down to like 9-degrees at night and in the 20’s during the day. That sounds like a spring breeze compared to what you’re having up there in Nebraska, but, REMEMBER– we’re talking about TEXAS here!!
The sun is shining today, which is a first in a while. It’s still cold out, but at least the warmth filters in through the windows. No snow here since Christmas week.
Stay warm, girl! ~Kristy
Lindsey in AL says
It’s currently 26 on our “mountain” in Alabama- the warmest it’s been in at least 3 days! Our woodstove is going non-stop, cranking out the heat, and I’m still wearing my fuzzy slippers that usually make me too hot.
We’re trapped at home for at least the rest of the weekend (no church) and possibly for the first couple days of next week. There’s no snow equipment up here and it took my husband 2 hours to drive 12 miles Friday night. It’s fine once we get out of our state but it’s icy as all-get-out up here. We like it :D There’s about an inch of snow on the ground but it’s not likely to melt for another few days. So weird.
Lori says
I live in Oklahoma and it is also unusually cold here. We actually had a “blizzard” on Christmas Eve and there is still snow on the ground! I was pretty excited about a white Christmas, until I went out to feed the birds on Christmas morning and slipped on the ice (which was below the snow) and broke my arm. Yep, have to have surgery on it next week. I think it’s supposed to be 20 degrees today. They’re saying next week should get warm enough to melt the snow though.
Melody says
Here in Kansas city school was closed this whole last week. It wasn’t the cold so much because they don’t have outside recess once it gets below 0.
Today is much nicer though, we have a high of 12*, whereas the last week has been like 3* or 1* without windchill. We almost had a blizzard but they didn’t close down the interstate so you know it was bearable. We have a missionary couple on deputation in S.Dakota though and they’ve been stuck for days cause the highways are shut down.
These are the days I’m a stay @ home mom and homeschooling! Excercise consists of shoveling the walks and cleaning off the car/truck…lol
Melody says
I mean *glad* to be a SAHM. I should proof read more..lol
titus says
Really cold, like 18 degrees with a wind chill of 1 degree and humidity around and above 80% (still)…yet no snow in sight. Ain’t Louisiana grand?
Country Living Mom says
The weather here in IL has been terribly cold. It is 24 right now…a virtual heatwave! It was -10 this morning when I went out to take care of the animals! The windchills have been consistently below zero, even when the temp gets up to 15 or 20. We currently have 6-8 inches of snow on the ground. I am ready for spring already!
Catherine says
If you need to warm up come and see the beach photos I’ve just posted …. we are supposed to have temperatures over 40C (104F) for the next week.
Step says
As I scanned the replies, I saw at least one other person from “sunny” Michigan. Isn’t it funny how we Michiganders refer to the weather in our state as sunny? Of course, you need to insert a bit of sarcasm because Michigan is not very sunny and our state weather slogan is “shades of grey from October till May”. Yep, that about sizes it up. You don’t live in Michigan for it’s good weather. BTW, I am a SE lower Michigander — open right palm facing towards you, point to the fleshy part at the bottom of your thumb, and that’s where I am. I’m about as far east as you can go before hitting water.
That said, it’s about 26 degrees F and actually is bright and sunny today. We got about 4 inches of snow this past Thursday — the first real snow this season. My hubby made a skating rink in our back yard and we all skated for about an hour — great fun! Otherwise, it’s been very cold this winter and not enough snow to suit me. It’s going up to the 30s in about a week — whooohooo, heatwave!

Here in Seattle we are having unseasonably warm weather – in the mid-50’s today. And blue sky to boot! (we don’t usually see blue in the sky between Oct and June…) Though i must admit i feel like we are really missing out on winter – a little snow would be nice!

The middle of Ohio. I think The highs are around 26 the Lows have benn near 10. The snow is dry and fluffly, all 6 inches of it.
I was raised in Upstate New York(next to Vermont), I ma laughing at it.

I’m in Washington state too, Sara. Just a little south of Seattle though. But drove through Seattle this morning and it was a GORGEOUS day! Mid 50’s, blue sky, lots of water to look at! Couldn’t get better than this. (Though a good snowstore that lasted a week or so would be very welcome! I haven’t got to make a snowman this year) But there is still plenty of time for snow for us. Last year it snowed in April. And we often get no snow all year.

I’ll chime in with everyone else – it’s cold and snowy… it reached mid teens today and it felt so balmy…
The benefit is twofold :) – it makes us slow down and stay home more… and it will kill all the bugs before spring/summer???? One can be hopeful :)

Hey there from Sunny and mild Tucson, AZ. It has been consistently in the lower 70s for the past week and will be all next week. Mostly not a cloud in the sky…

I can appreciate your “crazy” weather. I live in South Florida. Pretty much the Tropics. And it is 25 degrees here. I even saw snow flurries this afternoon. Just to put it in perspective. It is usually 75 or 80 this time of year. We don’t own winter coats and my kids have never seen snow. They are calling for snow in my area today and it feels more like Maryland not South Florida. The weather is crazy everywhere!

well, I am in the minority here… a beautiful 75 here in Southern California. Very difficult to teach my class of kindergarteners about “winter” when it looks and feels like this! (Not complaining though) :)

I’m in central Arkansas and we’ve seen some cold weather that the state hasn’t seen in 10 years. Today was hovering around 23 degrees with lows in the single digits. Next week is a big warm up gradually increasing to 50’s by the end of the week!! Unfortunately I’m one of those people who really miss snow and yearn for my kids to build a snowman more than 6 inches tall and out of real snow, no polyfil or styrofoam balls!!! so if any of you have any extra snow, and i know some do, please send it to Conway Arkansas, c/o The Smiths. : )

Well–I am in sunny California. Sometimes it seems freezing to me but 50 degrees is much warmer than your negative temps. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan so I do know what a LOT of snow and FREEZING temps feel like. I am so glad that now I can drive to the snow and then leave it after I am done sledding or skiing. :-)
annie says
Cold and sleeting and forcasted for SNOW here in west central Florida! I appreciate the cold weather when it stays around 45-50degF, but does it have to be *this* cold?? Supposed to be in the teens tonight!

From Upstate New York here and I am used to cold and snow. And as much as I dislike winter.. yes I am living in the wrong state eh? (gotta stay with my family love them too much)
I have to say I am liking the snow so much more than the ice we had last year. The roads/sidewalks are not always taken care of and at least with snow there is traction :)
Oh and it’s 11 degrees currently.. brrr…
This was a fun post. Love your blog !

I’m not bragging….in fact, you might think it interesting that I live where I live….but I read your blog almost daily from Honolulu, Hawaii.
And, I can honestly tell you that I have NO IDEA what you are talking about….bad weather? The worst weather we’ve had lately is that the trade winds weren’t blowing very nicely last week Wednesday, and it was STILL and HOT the whole day. Oh, and about 90 deg.
Other than that, it’s 75-85, breezy and sunny. I might just go to the beach tomorrow.
If you’d like to live vicariously through me some more, you may. Or if you want me to stop commenting, I can do that too ;-)

It’s 21 degrees in Eastern North Carolina. This is unseasonably cold for us (my city is 1.5 hours from the coast).
Danielle says
Well it’s been in the *balmy* mid twenties here in PA. lol The nighttime lows have been in the teens.
We had a good snowfall the week before Christmas, and it was melted before Christmas Eve. (we noticed that when we came back the day after Christmas from Florida, our friends say it was a mild week lol)
Not much snow since then, meaning maybe a total of 6″. A few inches here and there. We want some SNOW!!!

We live in North Central Wi. We moved here from Albq. N.M. 2 years ago. This year seems much warmer then last year, it often was -38′. This year at least today it’s 4′ above :) I tell my husband that it seems like we moved to Russia(things are at a much slower pace & it’s amazing that people live through the cold…
Sheri says
We’ve been a little crazy here for weather too (Alberta, Canada) Earlier this week we were at -37 (Celcius, but I”m pretty sure that one’s the same in Farenheit), now we’ve gone the other way and we’re a few degrees above freezing. There’s so much snow here, that there’s water running everywhere as it melts.

I’m in west Texas where it’s been cold by these standards. It has not been below zero, but only down to 10 degrees, and no snow. I grew up in Montana, and my family is still there. My parents are snowed in and cold. Dad fell on the ice while scraping very hard ice off the windshield. I regale my kids with stories from my childhood when my sister and walked walked 6 blocks to school in 40 below. Where your nose freezes shut when you inhale, and you scrape the inside of your windshield. Oh yes, plugging the car in, which they don’t do here in Texas. I’m jealous of your weather. I could use a really good winter.

Way late on answering this, but I had to post. While we WERE in very cold KS for the CHRISTmas holiday, we are back in tropical Thailand now, where the temp right now says 82. Heehee. We really enjoyed being with family and having the boys experience a white christmas, but I must say it is SO nice to be back in shorts again, with air conditioning! It’s really surreal, having just been in freezing cold temps less than a week ago, and now sweating. :)

We’re having really nice weather – sunny and in the 70s during the day. We’re missing the snow, but not the cold this year. lol! We’re in Az.
Jennifer in northern alaska says
I cam commiserate with you Laura!!! Here in the interior of Alaska it is currently -37 F….. and DROPPING!!! It is so cold that you can’t touch the door handle with bare fingers- or they will freeze to it. You can’t expose your hands to the air for more than a minute, or you will suffer frostnip or frostbite. To run from the front door to the car requires bundling the boys up in boots, thick coat, mittens, hat, and gaiter (neck warmer) pulled up to the eyes. IT IS COLD!!!!! Cold and dry though…. and no wind. So we stay inside, build forts, play indoor mini golf(we set up a little course:-), make hot cocoa and choc chip cookies, bake and do lots of laundry to keep the house cozy:-) I feel you… this is a great God-given season to enjoy, but I will be so thrilled to see spring:-)
Lisa says
Brrr! Brrr! Brrr! It’s been cold here in Kansas, record snow levels and bitter wind chills. This week it’s supposed to be up into the 40s potentially. I’m dreaming of spring already. :)

It’s cold! It’s way too cold for south Louisiana (19 degrees yesterday morning!). I actually said the words “I’m so glad it’s going to be in the 50’s today.” Wow..never in my life have I said that! I’m ready for summer…even our crazy hot summer.
I made your vanilla wafer recipe twice this week and I think I’m addicted. :-) They’re so good!

It’s freezing and snowy in IL, too, but I won’t let that keep me inside! I…must…run…

Hi! I’ve been a lurker on your blog for over a year now :) I live in San Diego and it is gorgeous here. I found a YouTube clip on the web of exactly how the weather is here right now. Enjoy :) I guess my comment falls under the live vicariously through me option ;)

It is 79 degrees F in Brisbane Australia as I type this at 10:22pm. We’ve been getting up to highs of 93 degrees and well above that. But as well as that we have really high humidity so after five minutes outside, perspiration is literally rolling off you and you want to run back into the air conditioning. I would so like to borrow some snow!

Good morning! We’re in Quito Ecuador and on Tuesday I heard we broke a record for the high temperature: 27 degrees. And lest you worry because we don’t have heat in our homes, I’ll tell you that’s 27 degrees Celsius! ;) Which is 80 degrees F! We’re from Michigan, and our hearts are definitely NOT broken by missing the winter. Hope you warm up soon! :)
