Quiet Strength, a great gift for men

With very few exceptions, like the Bible and some marriage books, Matt and I don’t tend to have the same taste in what we choose to read.

Last year, since we were going to be driving all the way from California from Nebraska for Christmas, Matt checked a few audio books out from the library to take with us. One of these books was Quiet Strength, by Tony Dungy. I figured he’d listen while he drove, and I’d tune it out while I tried not to get car sick going through Utah. The book was written by an NFL football coach after all. What could he possibly say that would interest me?

I was wrong. It took about three sentences for me to become interested in Quiet Strength, and together, we listened to the entire book. Amazing. Heartwrenching. Inspiring.

I think Quiet Strength is a book just about any man would appreciate. And, if he doesn’t like to read, the audio version is available.

By the way ladies, go ahead and listen/read along. Not only did I love this book, I even understood and liked all the football parts. ;)

I bought this for my kindle last year when it was on sale at amazon. I’ve yet to read it but now I think I will bump it up my list. Thanks for the recommendation.

I was in a quandary about what to get the Sweetheart for Christmas, so I decided on several smaller gifts instead of one or two “big” gifts. This fits the bill perfectly!!! If you both were here, I would hug you for helping me out! How about that for a Gratituesday!

Got it for my hubby when it came out. He loved it! He quotes it, too! Great book!

We just loved Tony Dungy as the coach of our Indianapolis Colts. He is a true man of God and a great leader. We miss him greatly!! Glad you liked his book. He truly writes from his heart.

I gave this to my dad for Father’s Day a few years ago, and he loved it! After reading it he became actively involved in a church and is now flirting with the idea of following Jesus. Thank you Tony Dungy for glorifying the Lord in your work!

Thanks for the recommendation! I run the library of my church and rarely come across books to buy for the men (not many men in my church ever use the library). I do a few “giveaways” each year and the audio version of Quiet Strength looks like it could fit the bill very well.

Tony Dungy is an amazing Christian man – as well as a coach. When one of our sons went away to college – I mean – AWAY – we live in California – he wanted too try & go to a college in New York..:( My hubby had just finished Tony’s book & on the back, he had noticed an email address & it said if you ever needed prayers just email me. So my husband did. He emailed him w/ a request that our son is so far away; in a new environment; etc, please pray for him or if you could call him – Tony Dungy CALLED our son!!!!! He prayed for our son’s safety in college!!! And he called us back! We will forever remember that moment when a coach & father & Christian – reached out to us & prayed for us & helped us! Thank you, Tony! Thank you, Lord! Laura, thank you for this post. <

My husband and I have both been football fans most of our lives and enjoy watching games together. We both also admired Tony Dungy and his coaching philosophy. When I came across the book in my Christian bookstore, we read it together and truly enjoyed it. My husband’s father was a professional hockey coach, so he could relate on a different level to some of the stories. I have since purchased many copies of this book as gifts to other couples and football fans–it is a great way to subtly introduce a Christian model to friends.

I am loving these comments on the book. I am going to puchase several copies of this book for my siblings and their spouses. I am starting with one for me and mine. Thanks again!
