What are Swagbucks?

Search & Win

I talk about Swagbucks here and there, mostly saying phrases like, “I used my Swagbuck earnings to buy Organic Groceries from Amazon.” This is all well and good if you’ve been reading my site for a few years and know about these Swagbuck thingies I’m talking about. But recently I’ve recognized that not all of you know what I’m talking about, as I’ve heard some questions like,  “Laura, what are Swagbucks?”

Well, it would be my pleasure to tell you. I love Swagbucks. Watch me jump up and down while I tell you that:  It’s basically free money and it has paid for some Organic Groceries from Amazon for my family and free books for school and free Christmas gifts and free other things we’ve needed. You’ve just got to join me in this Swagbuck thing!

“Okay great, but really Laura. What are Swagbucks?”

Swagbucks are “bucks” earned while doing normal internet searches.  Typically, many of us use something that starts with a “G” and rhymes with Schmoogle to do online searches, right? This is wonderful and fine and easy and I’ve learned some great things about gorillas and the continent of Asia while using that search engine.

But by using the Swagbuck search engine, I learn great things about gorillas and the continent of Asia AND I get free money. Real money. The kind I can use to buy Organic Groceries from Amazon or books or gifts.

I have found it easiest to download the Swagbuck toolbar onto my computer…that way everytime I need to do an internet search (which is about eight hundred times a day) I do that search through my Swagbuck toolbar. Several different times each day, as I do those internet searches, I will see a little picture letting me know that Yay! I just won some Swagbucks!!

All of the Swagbucks I earn accumulate in my account. Once my account reaches a total of 450 Swagbucks, I can turn them in for a $5 Amazon Gift Card. I save my Amazon Gift Cards and use them for items we need, because I can find all kinds of great items through Amazon.

There are other ways to earn Swagbucks and you can read all about it once you set up a Swagbuck account. Beyond doing normal internet searches, the most success I’ve had for earning extra Swagbucks is telling other people about them, so that when they sign up and earn Swagbucks, I do too! Several of you have signed up through my links in the past, which has been a lovely and free way to support our work here at Heavenly Homemakers (so thank you oh so very much!). You can earn Swagbucks by referring others too. Once you sign up, be sure to tell everyone you know so that they can sign up under you and you can earn more Swagbucks! (However, you are not allowed to refer someone else in your own household…just people outside of your home!)

The beauty of Swagbucks is:  There’s no catch and it’s all free.  There’s nothing weird about Swagbucks or any need to feel nervous about joining me in the Swagbuck craze. It’s just a search engine, and you can earn free stuff or gift cards by using it. I’ve been using it for something like two or three years and have not had one bit of trouble or weirdness with it.

You can sign up for Swagbucks here.  It will take you about two minutes. Or one minute if you’re a fast typist.

Swagbucks is a lovely thing indeed. It’s a wonderful way for everyone to earn some free money to use for things they need! (And P.S. There are other goodies and gift cards you can turn in your Swagbucks for. I just almost always turn them in for Amazon Gift Cards because that is the most helpful for our family.

If you’re a Swagbuck user, what do you turn in your Swagbucks for?

I love swagbucks and usually use my points for Amazon cards but am considering saving them up for some of the new cards they just added such as CVS and Starbucks. Now if I could just get my teenager to use Swagbucks when she searches I would be happy!

I use Swagbucks to “search” for your site, and just now won 11 for doing so! :-) I cash all mine in for Amazon cards, and do my Christmas shopping for my nieces and nephews there. I have a set amount of money I spend on each one, and I am well on my way to earning enough to cover my budget for them this year, and it may even help covering the cost of gifts for my own kids!

I also use them for Amazon GCs, because it seems to be the best Swagbucks-to-Dollars ratio, but if they come out with some new gift cards, I might have to check them out!

How does Swagbucks compare to mypoints.com? I use mypoints.com and have not yet started down the path to start using swagbucks.

I use both. I think for printing grocery coupons that mypoints gives a slightly better return. However, I usually do my searching with swagbucks.

I use swagbucks to get Amazon cards too. The only thing I don’t like about it is that lots of the search results are “sponsored” results. But you can see right underneath each link whether or not it says “sponsored by” or not. I usually avoid those.

I love Swagbucks! And I always turn mine in for $5 Amazon gift cards as well. I’ve got $20 saved to help out on curriculum for the fall. Yahoo! … I mean Swagtastic!

I use mine for Amazon GC’s. I don’t search 800xday, but I *always* used my Swagbucks toolbar. Even if I don’t like SB’s results, I then use it to “search” for the g place that rhymes with schmoogle.

I’m saving my GC’s for a Nutrimill :) Slow and steady wins the race over here. I’ve got $40 saved up so far. My goal is to have my mill by the end of the year. I might need to up my searching if I’m gonna make it :)

I recently signed up for SB through your site. I have been a little discouraged by the points system. How long did it take you to earn your first reward?

You should start earning very soon. There seems to be *some* kind of method or pattern to how many and when you earn points, so it’s certainly not every time you do a search…but keep trying. You’ll earn swagbucks soon!!!

I signed up a while ago through your site, and I have been so thankful. It’s funny that I have had to convince people to try to use Swagbucks because I have gained about $120 in Amazon gift cards from Swagbucks, and it is mostly just by searching (I don’t have the network of friends that you do). The several months where we had no internet and I had to use other people’s at their houses was frustrating because I went 3 months without earning a single SB! :) I am glad you got my referral points. Now if only I could convince a few more friends!

If there are those that are not signed up due to hesitation I say go for it, there is NO catch, I have made $120 in less than 8 months free money, and no I am not on the computer 24/7 just randomly, I serch for my email account my FB account and a few others, also do the daily poll, the NOSO, and check surveys that gets you 4pts a day. I also save mine for Amazon and have gotten some great deals for free stuff!
    Oh on a different note, I may gain a few pounds from this site, it should come with a warning, Laura I made your pretzels today, WOW they are sooo yummy! I already ate 2! Love your site;}

I made swagbucks my homepage, and the points are racking up, because its our main search engine, and sometimes I do surveys.
I just ordered my first amazon gift card, and have not received it just yet. I was wondering, do they mail you an actual gift card or is in all done online? Thanks!

I signed up for Swagbucks after hearing about it on your site well over a year (or more?) ago. I love that there truly is no catch. I have a question because I’m not really very computer savvy … I’ve got about $50.00 worth of $5.00 Amazon cards but cannot figure out how to combine them in one purchase?? Any help would be much appreciated. Also – just a word to those just getting started … last Christmas I waited almost until the last day to cash in 3 or 4 SB for gift cards — in Swagbuck-land that’s too late. It takes a couple of days to process everything and I ended up not being able to use them before Christmas. Just a heads up on that :) Thanks, Laura, for telling us about Swagbucks!!

I’d also like to know this– but I’m having trouble figuring out how the search works.
I’ve made one search that earned me 11 points somehow, but none of the other searches I’ve done have earned anything. Is there a pattern to it? I thought every search was supposed to earn points. Help!

Not every search rewards you with points – it’s random. But, the more you search, the greater your chances of winning! :)

If you go to Amazon.com and click on my account, there is an option to apply a gift card to your account. You can enter in the codes from Swagbucks and Amazon will store it for you and will automatically apply it to your next purchase.

I cashed in my first 450 points towards an Amazon card but while it shows up in my account, it seems inaccessible. It LOOKS like they mail it to me– is that the case?

Once you’ve cashed in points toward a card and you’ve verified it, you have to wait for them to put it into your gift cards section in your account. You’ll get an email from them when they’ve done this and at THAT point, your card will be ready to spend. It usually takes several days, unfortunately!

I found that if you search every 4 hours you norm get SwagBucks. Ive been doing this for 5 weeks without any referrals and already have 2,067 SwagBucks. I put together a video that will show you how to get 24 without searching. Add the searching on top of that and I norm get over 50 a day easy. Here is the video http://bit.ly/qepDlX
