Well, Happy New Year everyone! I’m sleepy. I did what I never thought I’d do and stayed up way past midnight last night. I had more fun than I thought I would too, how about that?! But if I’m going to make it through the week, I will have to take a nap this afternoon. :)

How did you ring in the new year?

Here’s what our menu looks like for this week:

Sunday, January 1
Oatmeal, clementines
Cheesy beef and rice, green beans
2012 Pancakes (Because, as un-artistic that I am, I think I can pull off making pancakes into the shape of 2’s, 1’s and 0’s. Maybe.)

Monday, January 2
Pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, scrambled eggs, bananas
Tammy’s chicken pasta salad, oranges, chocolate chip cookies (feeding the YC ladies basketball team)
Chicken fried steak strips, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas

Tuesday, January 3
Pancake sausage muffins, clementines
Lamburger patties, steamed broccoli and carrots, okra
Chicken and noodles, raw veggies

Wednesday, January 4
Warm chocolate soother, fried eggs
Bean dip with tortilla chips, apples
Venison steak fajitas, fruit salad

Thursday, January 5
Mini breakfast pizzas, applesauce
Creamy mac and cheese, green beans
One dish meat and potato casserole with peas

Friday, January 6
Peanut butter honey toast, bananas
Potato soup, tossed salad
Creamy chicken and rice casserole with carrots

Saturday, January 7
Giant breakfast cookies, pears
Leftovers
Cheesy salsa enchiladas, tossed salad

We stayed home and watched the ball drop on t.v. Very pretty, would love to be in New York to see it. Goodbye 2011 and hello 2012. One of my big goals for 2012 is to eat more meals at home. I’m going to have to get out the recipe books and start digging in. Love your Giant breakfast cookies, they are delicious.

I see clementines on the menu several times. We have been inhaling those at our house! My boys love them, and I am not arguing the extra vitamin c this time of year!

I stayed up way to late, also! I did not plan on it, and unfortunately my children stayed up too, so I battled personal fatigue as well as bad attitudes from them all day!! We were with our church family all night praising the Lord, so it was well worth it. Have a great New Year!

We stayed up way late. We went over to the home of long time friends and hung out, enjoyed great food, and watched movies. I think we left their house at 3am, that was about as late as I could handle. LOL

We had steamed crab & mussels with stuffed mushrooms & crab cakes on New Years Eve with m’honey’s daughter & her boyfriend. After eating, we played Skatergories until the ball dropped which we watched as well.
The evening ended soon after (we played 3 more rounds) and then we cleaned up. I still didnt get into bed until about 2:30am.

On New Years Day we had black eye peas & ham, a southern mainstay for New Years Day to bring prosperity in the new year. Sometimes I make pork roast or pork kielbasa & sour kraut and pierogies for the Yankee in the house too since thats what he traditionally ate on New Years Day…

    From Wikipedia:
In the Southern United States,[5] the peas are typically cooked with a pork product for flavoring (such as bacon, ham bones, fatback, or hog jowl), diced onion, and served with a hot chili sauce or a pepper-flavored vinegar.

The traditional meal also features collard, turnip, or mustard greens, and ham. The peas, since they swell when cooked, symbolize prosperity; the greens symbolize money; the pork, because pigs root forward when foraging, represents positive motion.[6] Cornbread also often accompanies this meal.

well, since you asked… I went to bed early with my 7 month old, was woken up around 1am by my 3 year old who had wet the bed. Changed clothes, bedding, calmed down an incredibly tired little boy, and 45 minutes later was back in bed. Then hubs got called into work so I went to church with the kids by myself. Ah, 2012. It’s gonna be a good one. :) (thankfully things improved after that rough start!)

We rang in the New year at a prayer meeting at church :). It’s so nice to start off the year thanking God and being with those we love.
I had a question about the giant breakfast cookies- are they just semi-sweet or are they regular “cookie sweet”? I don’t really like sweet sweet stuff in the morning which is why I ask :) Thanks!
Oh and if you are intersted, this is what we are having this week:

These cookies are sweet enough to taste good, but hearty enough to work for breakfast. :)
