A Lesson in Trusting God ~ And a Chance to Win Noah’s Ark Veggie Tales DVD

We grown-ups. We’re good at complicating uncomplicated truths. We don’t do this on purpose. Our brains and schedules just get full and the reality of life sometimes shuts down our ability to think simply.

This is why I like children’s books and movies. Phooey, this is why I like children.

It never fails. Any time I need to explain a Biblical truth at a level kids can understand – the easy words with their basic meaning prick me to the core with a simplicity that is remarkably profound. God’s truth isn’t complicated, friends. It’s the believing and taking Truth to heart – that’s where I tend to stumble in my frailty.

So heart check:  Our oldest son is a senior in high school, making weighty decisions and preparing to launch into the next big thing. Never before have I faced the need to trust God with my children at such a level. Regrets and what-ifs threaten to suffocate me when I forget that my God is faithfully and lovingly in control. Overwhelming, precious peace takes over when I realize that confident trust in God is the only gift I have to offer my children. Not one time has the Father failed to keep His promises. Trust is the only option. I will choose this. I must choose this.

The Only Gift

It’s interesting what comes to light when your heart is searching. As I take time to read the Word each morning a theme of “trust” continues to shine through the pages. Jesus isn’t waiting for me to line up my ducks in a perfectly ordered row before kneeling at the cross. He just wants me to take a knee. God doesn’t ask me to present the answers to all the tough questions. He just wants me to seek. The Spirit doesn’t wait for me to understand all that is to come. He simply whispers, “Trust me. I’ll show you.”

And so I do. And then I forget. And then I remember. And sometimes I cry. But always, He’s right. And always – peace wins.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

That was a word from me, and then a word from the Word, and now a word from Bob and Larry.

What? I couldn’t think of a good transition.

There’s a new Veggie Tale in town, and we get to be the first to know about it. I found it fun that as I’ve been seeking to understand full trust in God, Veggie Tales were working on a show to explain the profoundly simple concept to children. When I saw the title Noah’s Ark: A Lesson in Trusting God I laughed and said, “A lesson in trusting God? Well of course it is. It’s perfect.”

noahs ark veggie tales

This movie is darling. The creators did a great job sharing the story of Noah from a Biblical perspective, with a little bit of veggie silliness thrown in for good measure. Malachi said to be sure and “tell all your blog people that it is an amazing video!” So there you have it. The ten year old has spoken.

Noah’s Ark: A Lesson in Trusting God can be ordered at Amazon now and shipped to you next week. It’s a great one to have in your collection, and you can pre-order for just $9.96.

I happen to have a copy here to give to one of you – so leave a comment for a chance to win. I’ll draw a random winner on Tuesday, March 3. Be watching for a post stating the winner as you will be responsible for contacting me if your name is chosen.

This is such a hard issue right now. My children are 2.5 and almost 4. I see them watching for how I react to situations. I need to show them more trust in God! (Wow auto correct tried to add an “a” before God just now, so sad). I feel like I see all my bad reactions coming out of them when they have to deal with situations in everyday life. I have always loved playing the veggie tales movies for them and am so excited for this new one coming out. It is always nice to add a new one to the mix! Thanks for your review and encouragement!

With all our family has gone through this year (and are still going through) with the loss of my FIL and my MIL being in hospice trusting God has been taken to a whole new level. It is hard to watch your kids grieve! Lessons being learned all over this place in this little home school of ours.

I think it’s significant that the verse doesn’t say, “and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will make all things to be anxious about go away and leave you alone.” It says that this peace will “guard” our hearts and minds. Oh, bummer, I sort of wanted all the anxious stuff to just take a hike, but God in his infinite wisdom knows that we don’t need it to go away so much as we need to approach it with his peace surrounding us, guarding our hearts and minds.

Love you! Have fun giving away that video to someone who is not related to you. ;-)

Our childn just got to see this for ht first ime at CHurlast SUnday..and our sx-year-old proclaimed it: “The most Christian of the NEW Vegie Tales movies!” :-)

We’ve not been fans of Veggie Tales since Phil Vischer had to step away from the company. since, in most (all?) of the new ones, the storylines were not biblical, and some of them didn’t’ even mention much about the Bible!

Just one example is “Celery Night Fever,” which went 41 minutes and 43 seconds before it even mentioned Scripture or God/Jesus/anything Christian!!

Now our son has spoken, too… :-) … and he’s usually accurate about stuff like that!

My oldest is graduating this year, too, so I am treading into a new season right along with you. When you cry, I cry! Veggietales have been such a part of their growing up years. The girls just love it (sarcasm) when I quote “A thankful heart is a happy heart…” from Madame Blueberry – my all-time favorite. I would love to own a copy of this latest one. They were unable to sell their house but found renters ( who are overdue on 2 months rent). Then they found out they were pregnant!! God’s ways are mysterious and they are trying to trust in him. This DVD would be a great reminder to them that God does keep his promises, but we sometimes have to wait.

We passed all our old Veggies along to a family member with younger children that don’t attend church, but loved Veggies when they came over. Now God has blessed us with another little one that is getting to the “watching” age ! (Not that the “olders” wouldn’t catch a peek too :)

Trusting God’s plan with our children is something I was so unprepared to do in parenting! As we prepare for our 2nd oldest’s graduation … and our oldest applying to enter the police academy, a reminder to trust God fully is perfect!

It’s funny. As I have my oldest child, a daughter, a senior and graduating, I find myself filled with anxiety and realizing once again I really don’t have control. While wrestling with letting go and truly trusting my Savior, I felt prompted to read your blog. I thought, ” Maybe she is experiencing the same emotions and struggles.” Sure enough, you are. Thank you for sharing. :-)

I enjoy seeing the ways in which God speaks to us. Keep listening for Him. Would love the movie as my kids enjoy veggie tales but especially my two year old. ????
