Welcome to my garden tour. Here are a few of my disclaimers: I’m a much better cook than I am a movie maker. I played with all the different features of Windows Movie Maker because I needed to edit out quite a bit of my video…like the parts where I walk from one part of my yard to another talking about random things that would have bored you to pieces. Several parts of the video might seem are choppy. And also…I needed to weed a few areas of my garden…but I wanted to get the video done, so I waited…and now you get to see parts of my garden in all their overgrown grassy glory. I took the hoe to the garden soon after the video, just so you know.
So here…without any more excuses for lame video footage…is the garden that grows in spite of me:
I’ll try to make another video in a couple more weeks. We’ve had tons of rain lately, so everything is growing like crazy!!
If you have one…how’s your garden doing? Enjoying any yummy produce from it yet?

How fun! Thanks for sharing. I love that you have patches of garden all over the place. We just started attempting gardening this year, I am so proud of my little patch I put a photo on my blog. :) No produce yet, we’re in MI so its still early yet.

Personally, I was relieved to see your peppers. My tomatoes are growing in leaps and bounds but my peppers are not so much. I think we need some sunshine – and I just saw on the weather that it’ll be several days before we’ll likely get any! Ah, well, I’m doing lots of walking since it’s been cool and that’s definitely not all bad.

Thanks for sharing your garden! We were just out in ours tonight, doing a bit of weeding and it’s so exciting to see the plant growth. Our cantaloupe plants in particular are growing well. I look forward to seeing a garden update!

Thanks for sharing your garden!
Our garden is doing alright. We picked our first batch of spinach last night. And amazingly, all 3 of my girls ate it all up. Yes, it was sauteed in butter & with pine nuts, but my oldest doesn’t eat vegetables without much prodding. She raved about it tonight to my mom, so I know she liked it. Only problem is we don’t have much more than will be coming in before it turns too warm for it.

Oh, and I decided to try the potatoes in the garbage can. They are doing awesome! They were slow to start, but now they are really taking off and growing like crazy. I also planted some in my regular garden & they are doing well too.
Once the garbage can ones get to the top, you stop filling with dirt (of course), and then just let them keep on growing, right?

Just one tomato plant survived. The zucchini plants are struggling to stay alive. I keep trying.

I have an update with photos at my blog… no video. ;)
We have lots of lettuce and spinach (it’s all about done), and radishes, and peas. The boys claimed that putting pea pods (the sugar snap type) on their peanut butter and banana sandwiches added a very interesting crunch.
We were relieved to have a couple days of rain so we didn’t have to go out and weed…

I keep a picture of my garden on my sidebar that I update weekly. (Still mostly looks like dirt, even though things are growing well. I’m hoping that my update tomorrow shows how well everything is doing.)
I have to ask about your onions. They look fantastic!!! How did you start them? Do you have any growing tips you could share?
I started mine from seed and they’re alive, they’re just not growing. I don’t know what to do – in my defense though it’s my first year with them. :D

Laura, your garden is looking great! We have had our share of garden troubles this year, but our tomatoes are great! We have had fresh tomatoes with every meal this week:)

The only thing we have been able to enjoy so far is lettuce! I have cucumbers growing though and I am SO excited to see them get big!

I liked the title of this post… the garden that grows in spite of me. That totally suits my garden this summer! :)
Despite my lack of effort and energy put into my garden, we are beginning to eat from it! Whohoo! We’ve been eating greens for almost a month now, as well as radishes. Some peas have just started to be ready this past week, as are the baby turnips and kale. My dill and cilantro are beautiful and we’re enjoying those. Yesterday the kids ate a few very skinny carrots, but I think we’ll leave those in the ground a bit longer.
After all that, we’ve got broccoli (starting to flower!) and cauliflower (which should flower anytime now), beets, onions, garlic, spinach- all ready in the next month, I think. Then tomatoes, cucumbers, corn and zucchini recently planted, with a watermelon and sweet pepper seedling waiting, as well as a couple winter squash seedlings.
Plus, our potatoes are doing so well! I was worried that I had done something wrong because mine were already over the top of the garbage can as well, but I guess that’s ok because so are yours. I really need to add more soil, though. I ran out! :(
Can you tell I’m still excited about my garden? LOL! I love to talk gardening! Thanks for sharing your video!

Thanks for sharing your garden! We’ve tried some container garden but diesase overtook must of it so going to test the soil, try some upside down tomoatos(as that is where the problem started) and start over again. Also wondering if the sun is just too intense out here and I should shade stuff more.

I just started following your blog. I’m a SAHM of 2 growing boys. I enjoy fresh produce but have a brown thumb. It also doesnt help that I live in AZ! I’m trying to learn more about starting a garden. Thanks for your posts!
