Gratituesday: Apple Time

gratituesday[2]

At church yesterday, a dear friend stopped me to say, “Laura, if you want apples, I’ve got a tree full. Come help yourself!” And so, as soon as we got through the majority of our school work today, three boys and I headed out with bags and boxes. Below, you will see a big apple tree…and three sets of legs.

We didn’t have much time, but the four of us picked fast and furious. Within a half hour, we had 2 big fruit boxes and 5 paper grocery sacks filled!

You can guess what I’ll be doing the rest of this week. Applesauce, apple pie filling, apple crisp – oh yeah. Our house will be smelling good. Our Victorio will be getting a workout. Our cinnamon supply will dwindle.

What a blessing to be supplied with so many apples. Having the chance to pick them with my boys on a bright sunny day was glorious!

Just over a year ago I had a miscarriage. It was a difficult time, but the Lord taught me so much through it. I wrote about it here:

    http://www.womenabiding.com/10-ways-to-glorify-god-in-your-miscarriage/

Now, I’m 6 months pregnant with our next child (our 5th!), and I’m so thankful for this healthy pregnancy. No longer do I take it for granted that God allows a child to come into this world healthy and whole. He is so good!

I am grateful that God works to put us together into churches, that he made us for something bigger than ourselves, that we were created for love and good works!

I recently purchased another vehicle so my daughter could take one to college with her. I had to purchase a new license plate for the vehicle. I had chosen a plate that had a sunset behind the Mackinac Bridge. When I went to the dealer to pick up my plate, I was handed a plain white Michigan plate. I was disappointed. Then I looked at the letters on the plate. The letters spelled out DEB. These are my late father’s initials. We lost him to a heart attack in 2001. Today I am grateful for the reminder of my dad’s presence each time I get into my new-to-me car.

My good friend dropped off two boxes of apples on Sunday, so Monday was applesauce day!! So thankful! My friend will have more apples coming on and we’ll make pie filling, apple crisps and pies. What a bounty from the LORD!

I am grateful that GOD knows all about us and nothing takes HIM by surprise. As the songs says, HE’S all I need, HE’S all I need, JESUS is all I need.

I am most thankful today for my family. That I had godly parents that raised me with morals and values designed by God. That I have a wonderful husband of 22 years and two beautiful and healthy boys that are quickly becoming young men and at this time in their life are also following God’s plan for their life. I pray that it continues!! I am thankful that God still chooses to use imperfect people for His perfect will and that He provides for whatever is needed with each new day. I am thankful that while looking for muffin recipes yesterday I found this website and what a blessing it has been already! Praise God and thank you for sharing so that others can be blessed!

last year as we made loads of applesauce from bags of gifted apples, we discovered how delicious homemade fruit leather is! we used parchment paper as the liners for the dehydrator and it worked like a dream. we just made a batch from some pears, though i think the pears could use other fruit puree mixed in…. :) delicious!

Our church has a community garden and had a huge swet potato harvest this year- So this Past Sunday they allowed us to dig up as many sweet potatoes as we wanted. I spent yesterday baking and pureeing sweet potatoes to freeze for smoothies, cookies, biscuits etc!
