First, let me say that I’m so disappointed that I have no pictures to document what I am about to share. :( I guess I was thinking about that hugs instead of the camera.
There is a big camp, called Soul Quest, hosted by our local Christian college, which took place last week. We always love being a part of this, making a point to go each evening to worship with the hundreds of youth and adults that are on campus. (Asa, our oldest, goes as a camper and loves it!) One of the best parts of Soul Quest is seeing many friends that we rarely get to see. It’s like a big reunion and it’s wonderful. :)
Then on Saturday we picked Asa up from Soul Quest and dropped him off at church camp where he is serving as a counselor this week. (Yes, Asa is just a little bit busy this summer. Ah to have the energy of a 15 year old!)
I had heard that my friend Donna, whom I haven’t seen for way too long, was going to be at camp this week with her boys. Therefore, I hoped that when we dropped Asa off I might have just a small chance to hug her neck and catch up for a little while. Well guess what? Donna was the first person I saw when we arrived at the camp ground. And then guess what else? We actually got to visit for over an hour while as our boys played (and got filthy) together. :) And then guess what else? (Why yes, I am excited about my weekend.) After I had visited with Donna for a while, her mom showed up and I got to hug and visit with her too! Donna’s mom has always been a lovely encouragement to me.
I left camp with my cup overflowing.
(I also left with a few ticks, but let’s definitely not talk about that…) ;)

Oh, Love catching up with old friends! I just have to share…I’ve considered my roommate in college my best friend (aside from my husband of course). Over our 13 years of marriage, we’ve never been able to live in the same state due to her husband’s job flying planes of all things in the navy. And now it’s heaven on earth as she and her brood of 5 just moved 30 minutes from me! I can hardly stand it! Now, not only can I talk to her all the time, but I can drop by and hug her neck, too! ::SIGH::
bottom line: God is good. All the time.
(sorry for the novel. I’m a tad excited)

I had been thinking about my old college roommate lately. A LOT. Shortly after 9-11, she and her family had moved back to NY and we lost touch. Just recently, thanks to the age of social media, I was finally able to find her! She doesn’t live nearby or anything, but we were able to talk for a good long while and catch up. It was so wonderful to hear her voice again!

Camp is wonderful! So glad you get to be a part of that and to meet up with friends. :-)

Listening to you talk about camp made me miss the church camp from my growing up years. Wish we still lived close by- I know I would see many familiar faces.
Church camp was such a blessing- enjoying fellowship and fun with other Christians- and forming relationships with other kids from all over the state.
Thanks for spurring some fun reminiscing and thankfulness for the special memories from that season of life.
God bless you.

We got to hug lots of necks and catch up at our middle son’s wedding this past Saturday. Five weeks from this Saturday we get to do it again when our youngest son gets married! Plus we are grateful for two lovely young women becoming part of our growing family.

I love seeing old friends! Usually once a year I will travel back to Texas and Oklahoma to visit family and friends. The trip is never long enough to see everyone though.
I’m sneaking in a trip this fall to see my dad. I never see him for more than a half a day every year. In September I’ll stay two days with him! I’m very excited about that.

Interpersonal relationships is exactly what God wants for us. He alone can heal us but he longs for us to be in communities. When we show His love to each other…it is a glorious thing! So glad you were able to see an old friend (and her Mama!). It makes your heart flutter, doesn’t it? When you get to let yourself just BE with another! ((hugs)) to you!

I linked up about Gratefully Accepting Rest, which I originally wrote as “excepting” rest. Guess I need it.
