Menu Plan for the Week

I have something very weird and random to say:  Since I’ve been working out several times a week, my appetite has increased like crazy! I have shocked us all with the amount of food I have at times been able to eat during the last five weeks. And sometimes, I will have a big meal and find that I am very hungry again in two hours. What in the world?! Who am I, my teenage son?! Good grief.

There, I thought you’d like to know that. And now on to the menu plan for this week:

Sunday, February 26
Oatmeal, fruit
One dish meat and potato meal, peas
Chili at a church fellowship

Monday, February 27
Coconut flour muffins, apples
Tuna salad with crackers, fruit salad
Cheesy salsa enchiladas, tossed salad

Tuesday, February 28
Granola, yogurt, blueberries
Popcorn chicken, ranch potato wedges, asparagus
Italian roast wraps, tossed salad

Wednesday, February 29
Whole wheat blueberry muffins, applesauce
Chef salad with turkey and cheese
Taco potatoes

Thursday, March 1
Creamy orange cooler, scrambled eggs
Healthier chip dip, clementines
Roasted chicken, potatoes, carrots, gravy

Friday, March 2
Giant breakfast cookies, apple slices
Hoagie sandwiches, raw veggies
Pizza

Saturday, March 3
Cereal
Leftovers
Potato soup, carrots with homemade ranch

You are building muscles and burning fat away so your body need the extra energy! By making wise food choices you will loose inches and build muscles faster! Great job working out more! You will never regret it.

when I’m working out I’m always hungry every 2 hours or so (or pregnant then every 2 hours I feel like I may need to inhale an entire families meal :)

I have found if I drink tons of water, eat a little, and wait 15 or so minutes sometimes the intense hunger goes away. If not, then I know my body really needs food.

Gotta quick question. All your meals look so mighty tasty, but I also realize you’re feeding some boys and men. Do you or they eat snacks? If so, what do you typically eat? (I’m not trying to be nosey, but I am curious.)

Yes, we definitely eat snacks – a couple of my boys would snack all day if I let them! Here’s a post I wrote detailing many of the snacks we like: https://www.heavenlyhomemakers.com/healthy-snacks-i-feed-my-family.

I get that hungry feeling after working out, too… and I tend to think of it as my body’s last ditch effort to hang onto all the pounds I’m trying to shed!

Everything looks great. I meal plan for dinners but you have really inspired me to meal plan for breakfasts and lunch as well. This post also reminded me that it’s time to make some granola. Thanks!

    Hi, Laura,
I just had to share this info. I find it interesting that you brought this very real hunger issue up. I recently learned about it this last week from a book i got that addresses that very issue (in the book or one of her articles). Her type of exercise does not activate the hunger mechanism, which most other exercising methods do. Her method helps to start burning fat quicker , as well as regulates your blood sugar, too! No hunger, burn more fat! I like it!Her method is called T-Tapp. the book is called Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes. No bouncing or dancing or over-exertion required, but, i wouldn’t call it simple, either! Have a great day everyone!

T-Tap is great but if you have knee problems, probably not wise to do them. But she does have a fantastic system!

I know it is healthier to steam veggies vs. cooking them. My question–How do you prep your veggies for the freezer? For instance, when I do green beans or peas for the freezer (from my garden) I often have a bushel or more at one time so I blanch them (in boiling water). I have heard people talk about using a rice cooker to steam veggies–do you have any experience with this? I was looking at several and noticed that the bin where you place the veggies is made of plastic! :-( Still learning.

I have a stainless steel steamer that I use in my stainless steel saucepan with lid for steaming. I love it! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004UE8F?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwheavenlyho-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00004UE8F

I had a hard time coming up with a meal plan this week. I’ve got a case of the cooking and meal planning blah’s. I’m hoping to have a break through before dinner time.

This is a comment having to do with your previous posts about your recipe costs. I wanted to do some cost calculations on some of my favorite recipes; and finally I was able to this Saturday – with my dear husband’s help! :) He made an Excel spreadsheet that helps calculate the cost per cup, per Tbs., etc. of basic foods.

Anyway, I figure that it costs me about $.70 to make a batch of 8 bagels!!! That is $.09 per bagel!
(A bag of 5 bagels from our usual grocery store is $1.50, if I remember right – $.30 per bagel!)
I was SO excited that making them from scratch can save that much money! (And they are fun to make, too!)

Thank you for that series of posts on “Real Food, Low Cost”.
    I appreciated it!

I know the feeling! That’s why when I am really working out, I eat every couple of hours. That seems to help me. :)

here’s what we are eating this week:

I see you have hoagies on here. What do you put on them? I’m all for a good deli sandwich sometimes, but would like to know any healthier meat options if you know of them.

We rarely have hoagies or buy lunch meat because of the cost and lack of good options, but when we do, I have an MSG free brand of turkey I can get at one of my local grocery store delis that is pretty tasty!

I hear you on the hunger – I am very active and eat probably more than every 2 hrs! I do not worry about it – just eat when I am hungry and choose healthy foods (except for chocolate that is!). If you listen to your body, it will serve you well…
