I am so pumped! I just participated in my first ever 5K Walk-Run Event! I was going to wait until Gratituesday to share it with you, but I’m too excited, so I’m telling you about it now. :)
The race would have been a little much for Elias and Malachi to participate in, so they went with us,
but hung back and played soccer with a college girl. Asa was out of town, so we were bummed that he missed the event.
It was gorgeous outside, so that probably helped us all love it a little more. ;) The race was set up as a fund raiser for Tiny Hands International, an organization our family loves to support.
I typically don’t run much because I have found that running is much harder on my knee and hips than power walking. BUT, I was excited and wanted to at least run a little bit of it. We started out all jogging together. After about a mile, Matt and Justus went on running without me, and Jen and I finished it out by doing our typical power walk.
It felt so good!!!
Being able to participate in a REAL 5K event, and knowing that the money we paid went for a great cause we believe in – well, the morning was just awesome.
Then Jen and I were so pumped up, we went and lifted weights when we were finished. We figured we may as well make it a complete workout, right?
Loved it!
Have you ever done a 5K? Half Marathon? Full Marathon? Wow.
And don’t forget, even if you never have or never will do any of the above, if you at least do something to get moving, you’re doing great! It pays to be fit!

Way to go, Laura! It’s a blast to participate in any race. I’ve done several 5ks and a few other random races including one marathon. Now I’m expecting my second kiddo and I’m not running at all. Boy, I sure wish I could, though.

Some day, again – right!? A marathon…wow!

Wow, congratulations Laura! That’s so cool! Very proud of you. What an inspiration you are. I bet it was so great to be a part of something you say you never would have imagined doing just a couple years ago, huh?
Laura says
Aw,thanks! You are very right – this is not something I would have imagined even one year ago!
Laura says
Wow! Congratulations! I ran a 5K this morning as well, and even though I am in PA, we had great weather for it also :) I was NEVER interested in running until about 2 1/2 years ago when I set out to see if I could run 1 mile without stopping and I ended up doing 3! Thus was born my love of running! The first 2 seasons I did five 5K races, and so far this year I have done 11 (one being a cross country run) and a 10K! I also finally beat the 30 min mark last month! Definitely having running buddies to help support you has helped me tremendously! And it is nice now to see familiar faces at the local runs :) I’m proud of you!

Awesome job! I remember how I felt after running my first 5k! I was so proud of myself. I’ve ran several since. Great Job and keep it up!

Great job! I just did my first half marathon this year and loved it! I never used to enjoy running like I do now. Just found out I am expecting though, so running will be put on the back burner for now! Lots and lots of walking for the next year.

I love races. They are so much fun…done quite a few 5k’s, 10k’s, half-marathons, and one marathon. They are always such a great goal for me to reach for when exercising and they are fun. I always enjoy meeting new people and encouraging them to keep going. So glad that you had a great time…keep it up!

Yes, I walked 5 miles for MARCH OF DIMES one year….was fun, and I was tired when I finished….but glad I was able to do it….but really I’d rather power walk anytime…..easier on females :)

Congratulations Laura! Your good health shines through your face => I can’t run because of lower spine issues but I can do stairs, up and down, up and down. Free and easy. Stretches and hand weights work wonders as well. Thanks for the continued updates and encouragement.

That’s awesome Laura!
I did my first 5k about a year and a half ago and it felt good. I too walked most of mine but power walked. Not great time but it felt so good to cross the finish line. I did the same 5k this past year and plan to do it again next year :) It’s considered one of the world’s fastest 5K’s (Carlsbad 5000). It’s a beautiful city plus you’re running right next to the ocean :)

My two boys and I did a 5k this Saturday also. It was awesome. I tried to catch up to them at mile 3 but didn’t make it. The crossed the finish line at 33:43 and I crossed at 36:02. 30 seconds faster than my last 5k. Now, I’ll work on getting that down to 30 minutes this winter!

Congratulations, Laura!
I am not a runner and probably never will be. Recreational walking is my thing. Our Curves group walked 5K together along the waterfront. I was surprised that I could handle that easily. I might look into walking a real 5K race in the future. It feels great to set a goal and accomplish it!

Congrats! A race of any distance is a big accomplishment. I actually finished my second marathon today.

Congratulations Laura. I am SO impressed. 7 years ago I had been training for over a year and finished a triathlon. It was SO much fun and a great sense of accomplishment. In fact, when I crossed the final finish line it was so hard to keep the tears at bay, I was just overwhelmed.
The year after that I kept training and bike 100 miles (a century ride) in one day with my brother the great distance biker. I did it in St. Louis in August and the temp was 104 degrees! I did it in spite of the heat and humidity but it took everything inside me to keep going. It’s a wonderful experience.
You go girl!

Congratulations on your first 5K! Those are becoming very popular nowadays, I think everywhere. There is one where I live almost every weekend. The entry fees are usually between $15-30/race and I just don’t have the extra money to be able to pay to participate in them. But I do run 3-4 miles a day just for fun and because I love to run. :) Yay for being fit!

I did the Couch to 5K program a couple of years ago and loved it. I had never, ever been a runner and so when I was able to run a 5K without stopping, it was the greatest feeling. Congrats to you!
