Dessert or More Dinner – Question #61

I like my sweets. I wish I didn’t.

Even though most of the treats I eat are made with the good stuff (whole wheat flour/natural sugars), I still have to be really careful that I don’t eat too many sweets.

Because I LOVE them.

My husband, on the other hand would rather eat seconds or thirds of our main dish than to finish his meal off with something sweet. Often, he’ll say, “Well….I’m gonna have me some dessert” while he reaches over to scoop another spoonful of enchiladas onto his plate.

The boys gave him a Snicker bar with almonds for Christmas. He still hasn’t eaten it. I think he’s saving it for a special occasion. Like next Christmas perhaps? I would have eaten mine before I finished opening my stocking stuffers. Nothing says Christmas morning like a mom with nougat stuck to her chin.

Kristy’s comment on my Butterscotch Bar post got me to thinking. She wrote:  “Okay, here’s a good afternoon snack for my kiddos (and me!) to munch on! Can’t wait to try them.  I REALLY like the fact that you seem to have a sweet tooth, like me!!”

So yeah, I have a sweet tooth. A mouth full of ’em actually.

How about you? Are you a desserty kinda person…or would you rather skip the sweets and have another round of the main course?

I do have a sweet tooth and I LOVE chocolate! I don’t like just any sweets though, I hate doughnuts. I only love chocolate. And it show by my jiggly middle. Maybe someday you can share your secret for staying so thin while still eating sweets.

Unfortunately, I like a mixture of salty and sweet things. I could go back and forth from salty to sweet all day. The best, though, is dessert with a salty element, like ice cream and hot fudge topped with chopped salted peanuts or my Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake. Yum!

I’m definitely a sweets person! I’m just starting out with the healthy eating thing, so its still a work in progress to get away from candy candy and more candy! I’m right now stashing 1/2 a pkg of twizzlers and a pkg of whoppers in my car! I give my kids 1/2 piece of fruit after every meal, so hopefully they won’t have my sweet tooth when they are older.

Sweets all the way! I’m sad to say that I made some healthy peanut butter brownies the other week and ate all of it to myself within 2-3 days. Yikes! Thats not healthy at all! My sweetie is the same as yours, he just doesnt ever crave sugar…(maybe it’s because he gets so much from that nasty soda he drinks? LOL)

I’m like your hubby. I’d rather have a little extra dinner then dessert. I guess that’s because of how I was raised. My hubby doesn’t seem to care if we don’t have dessert, nor do the kids. We do have dessert on special occasions but that about it.

I get a sweet tooth around Easter (my fave candy is out). And sometimes around that punctuation time. And sometimes, I’d rather have salty chips lol.

I never had much of a sweet tooth until I became pregnant with my second child. All I want now is sweet things! I am now addicted to root beer- yes, I know not healthy AT ALL. I am having to buy the good stuff and ration. Any kind of ice cream or GF pastry sounds SO good too. Oh, and cereal and chocolate milk. :) Anyway, we aren’t finding out the gender of the baby, but I am hoping that these cravings go away in a couple months when s/he is born, otherwise I will never get this baby weight off!

This is me exactly! Before this pregnancy I only made desserts for guests or church events, now I can’t seem to control my baking urges. Christmas cookies were out of control this year! I’m having a little girl (any day now), and my last pregnancy, which didn’t include these cravings, was my son. Maybe I’ve just got too much estrogen in my body! :)

My husband and I are the exact same way! I think I could live off of chocolate, but he’ll grab another plate of “real” food instead. (He claims he doesn’t like sweets, but I find it quite interesting that if I DO bring home something yummy, it seems to disappear rather more quickly than it would if I was the only one eating it…)

I eat the meal to get to the sweets!! In fact, I have a label on my blog “for your sweet tooth.” I wonder if it’s a function of being told as a child to eat all of my supper so that I can get dessert?

My husband is the same way as yours. He could care less if there was a desert at the table, however if there is one he’ll eat. Just after he polishes off seconds or thirds.

Gotta go, the donuts are here. ;D

I love sweets! Chocolate is the preferred choice. My son and husband may not have anything sweet for weeks. Case in point, my son received green M&M’s for Christmas. Grandma sorted green and red and only gave him green because it’s his favorite color she gave Mommy red because she knows Mommy loves M&M’s. Mommy’s red M&M’s were gone two days later. My son is STILL eating his and has more than 1/2, more like 3/4 left!

I am addicted. It is so bad that b/c I dieted and considered many sweets “forbidden” it has turned into an issue. I would consider myself with an eating disorder. Deprivation/binge cycle. There is no purging or anything but I deprive myself and then depending on circmstances in my life, if I eat one “forbidden” treat it can turn into half a batch or a whole box.

I’m working through it and with the grace of God and the work of the Holy Spirit I believe I am getting through it. In the meantime, when I bake, it needs to be for an event that I can take them to and pass them off.

I used your peanut butter bar recipe (and added mini choc chips to the top) for a bible study this week. I like bars because it isn’t easy to eat one from the pan before the event without everyone knowing about it LOL.

I should add that I get mild sweet fixes with this banana oatmeal recipe any morning I have time to cook : http://www.katheats.com/kaths-tribute-to-oatmeal/

The banana is the only sweetener but I have become accustomed to that being just perfect. I also add a blob of nut butter to the top.

I always say that I have a sweet tooth, but I also have a lot of will power. What I mean is that if I want something sweet, I may make some cookies but I’ll eat one or two and then I’ve had my fix and I’m done.

I have a small little display of glass dishes/containers that house lots of sweet treats… and they’re still full.

My husband, however, has NO will power when it comes to ANYTHING chocolate… if it’s there, he WILL find it (and consume it). Ha ha… That’s the only parallel he has with a “typical” woman since I’m apparenly not since I neither like nor crave chocolate like he does.

Ha! A mouth full of sweet teeth! I like that.

Not only would I rather have dessert than seconds, I always start my meal with my carb, whereas my husband always goes straight for the meat.

With this in mind, I’ve given up processed sugar. I’ll eat dark chocolate, and the occasional sweet made with honey or maple syrup. It totally stinks. But when I start eating sugar, I never stop!

In our family we ALL have a ‘chocolate’ tooth. Most desserts revolve around chocolate and there is ALWAYS room for chocolate. We love (dark) chocolate so much that I buy the pound plus bar at Trader Joe’s, break into pieces and keep it in a Mason jar. That usually supplies dessert as I do not often have cake, cookies, etc. around (not because we do not want them but because I have not gotten around to making it). A chunk of dark chocolate and perhaps some almonds and I have a healthy snack! (Hey, chocolate’s a vegetable, right?)

I love sweets! I have to watch myself or I will eat to much. So a couple months ago I really studied what I ate and when. I found that if I ate something sweet with cinnamon or molasses in it then I didn’t crave more after I was done. So now I try to keep snickerdoodles, and molasses crinkles in the cookie jar(homemade of course) or sometimes I’ll make cinnamon rolls. I have managed to loose more weight this way than any other method I have tried.

I suppose I’m in the minority. I only like sweets occasionally. I struggle with hypoglycemia, so I can’t have sweets in the morning or as meal replacements. That may play into my dislike a little. I do like to have something sweet after dinner, with some coffee, but it can’t be too sweet. I hoard things so that I can eat one piece each day. :)
