I don’t think I ever mentioned it, but recently some friends of ours moved away (sad) and left us their trampoline (happy) .
The boys have been having a BLAST on it. On really hot days they put the sprinkler under it, turn it on, and let the water blast through to give them a shower. It has been SO much fun for them.
Here are a couple of shower-less pics…
Whoa, Malachi is flying on this one.
Now it’s Elias’ turn to fly.
They’ve been begging me to join them sometime. I’ve been fighting it for a while. Like…really…the trampoline? Me? Naw, you kids go ahead and have fun. I’ll just watch and take pictures.
But then a few nights ago I surprised them by climbing on!
I can not believe how much fun it was!
I also can not believe that all of my internal organs stayed where they’re supposed to stay. Good Night Nellie…I’m not as young as I used to be.
Here are a few trampoline jumping tips (just in case you might need them some day):
- Definitely jump on one if you have the chance.
- Go…to the bathroom…first.
- Swing your arms all around while you jump. You’ll feel like a kid again.
- Let your kids take pictures of you so that you have proof of your uh…fun.
- Don’t listen to a thing your kids suggest to you while you’re jumping.
Seriously, I had just gotten on the thing and taken about four jumps when they start shouting at me, “Mom…try a Cannon Ball!” and “Can you do a flip and land it?” and “Can we all get up there with you now?”
I…on the other hand…was shouting things like, “Ohmahgoodness-I-hope-I-don’t-puke. Do your stomachs feel this weird when you come down off a jump?” and “No I can not do a Cannon Ball and I am absolutely sure I can not land anything.” and “No please do NOT get up here with me. We have really crummy health insurance.”
I also laughed myself silly.
And then I got up there again the next day.
Really…you’ve gotta try it sometime.
How fun!
I would be right there with ya! I love trampolines though i am sure my midwife would have a fit if i did!
A few days ago we got our “new” trampoline set up in our back yard (passed down from friends with older kids) and my kids are lovin’ it. I am not coordinated but… it does have a safety net so perhaps I’ll get on the thing at some point;)
lol you are so funny! I LOVE trampolines!
When my youngest was two, he and I went out and had a picnic on the trampoline. Afterwards I tried what I had seen the three bigger ones do – jump up and land sitting down. It really hurt my lower back/tail bone! Tyler ran over to me and said, “Mommy, alright? I help!” and pulled to help me up. It was so sweet! He enjoys me retelling him that story :).
We also tried to camp out on the trampoline when the oldest three were younger. It lasted about 30 minutes then they all wanted to come in. Now they would probably do it, but we need a new mat!
My parents had a trampoline in their yard and oh my goodness are they awesome!!! My daughter Hannah would beg me to jump with her :) Glad your enjoying the fun!
PS: Boy are you right about visiting the ladies room first!
I’ve been on ours and I definitely like being up there by myself. I’m so afraid I’ll land on one of the kiddos. :)
i loved this post! we are planning on buying a trampoline soon . after 7 births i will take to heart your suggestion about what to do first lol
I didn’t grow up with a trampoline, but we bought one for the kids- I realized I’d really missed out as a child. You know, it’s the most comfortalbe thing to lay on and look at the stars at night :)
One of our favorite things is to put the hose on the trampoline! This year we discovered that if you put water balloons on the trampoline, they bounce too. It’s a lot of fun.
Laura, your friend’s lose is your gain! For what it’s worth, jumping on the trampoline is great for the lymphatic system and shaking loose those toxins from the body. Drink water before and after :) GIGATTAATTGIG!
You left out one trampoline tip that I learned from experience. Don’t wear a nursing bra while jumping! It will open, guaranteed!
lol I don’t think my pregnant belly would do so well on a trampoline. My girls enjoy one at the Grandparents cottage though. :)
After nearly bouncing off one as a child, I am scared to death of them and have thus far sworn I won’t get one since I’m a mean mama. But, we’ll see how that goes . . .
For some reason I can’t leave a comment on your above post but wanted to say THANK YOU for the link to my barrettes! How sweet of you to do that! :>)
OH my! I so wish we had one! That looks like soooo much fun!
I’d love some opinions for a godly woman such as yourself on the series I’ve been doing on the spirit of meekness. Stop by if you get the chance. :) And have a Happy 4th of July!
Blessings,
Jennifer
I’m a late comment, but I just had to leave one. We had a trampoline when I was young and I LOVED it. Fast forward to the future and now I HATE them. My children had to have one, because of course mama had SO much fun on hers as kid. We even got one with the safety net. My son injured his shoulder one week and my daughter broke her arm the next. My friend broke her ankle on theirs. Turns out everyone we know has had some form of serious injury related to a trampoline. While sitting in the hospital with my kids, two weeks in a row, praying they didn’t call DHS, I learned that they are the #1 cause of injury in children. Mostly neck and spine injuries. They see them constantly in the hospital. Enought that their first question is “Trampoline?”. Needless to say we got rid of ours. Yes, they are fun, but the risk of injury, especially with no insurance, just isn’t worth it for us.
I was a missionary in Romania for a year a few years back, before marrying and becoming a mommy. One of the things I did there was work at a baby orphanage for babies who had been abandoned at the hospital. They had a massive trampoline out in the back garden and it was such fun to take the babies out (all between 1-4 years old) and let them run around and bounce on it. Usually one of us would get on it with them and two others would hang out by the edge to keep the more adventurous from falling off!! It was also great fun once the babies were settled in bed in the summer (when it was still light out) to go out there and bounce around insanely!! I am not ashamed to admit that (at 29 years old) I had as much fun as the teenage volunteers!!
my kids just love to jump around on trampolines and they are sort of addicted to it.,.`
