How to Prepare Your Holiday Meal BEFORE the Holiday

November 6, 2018 by Laura 2 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share some commission.

I’ve been talking about this for years, and with good reason. It truly is possible to prepare your holiday meal BEFORE the holiday. I love using these methods so that I can enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas just as much as everyone else!

For several years, I’ve been sharing how to easily make most of our Thanksgiving or Christmas dishes ahead of time. Truly! You can get ahead, then when the big day comes, you don’t have to spend hours cooking and cleaning. Imagine actually savoring the turkey and side dishes you slaved over. (Except that you don’t have to actually slave over them because I’ll show you how to make them the easy way!)

Enjoy the following recipes and preparation guide to help you get ahead this holiday season!

How to Prepare Your Holiday Meal BEFORE the Holiday

One Week Before Thanksgiving

  • Pies made and frozen
  • Cheesy Mashed Potatoes made and frozen (OR wait and make this amazing Instant Pot Mashed Potato Recipe the day of!)
  • Stuffing Muffins made and frozen
  • Green Bean Casseroles made and frozen
  • Sweet Potatoes baked, mashed, and frozen
  • All remaining groceries purchased

Two Days Before Thanksgiving

  • Turkey baked and de-boned (yes, you CAN make your turkey ahead of time!)
  • Turkey Broth made
  • Cranberry Sauce made
  • Prepared frozen food moved from freezer to fridge

One Day Before Thanksgiving

  • Tea brewed and chilled
  • Sparkling cider chilled
  • Pineapple Fluff Salad made and chilled
  • Cream whipped
  • Tables and chairs set up

Thanksgiving Day

  • Enjoy a large cup of steamy coffee in my recliner for a very long time (because I can)
  • Everyone on their own for breakfast (probably cereal)
  • Mix dry ingredients together for Stir-and-Pour Rolls (for easy, no-brainer mixing about an hour before meal time)
  • Put Cranberry Apple Cider into a crockpot to heat (this is a huge hit with guests!)
  • Set out butter to soften for rolls
  • Plates, silverware, cups, and napkins set out

About 1 1/2 hours before serving time, I will bake or re-heat prepared foods. Then I will make gravy and bake the rolls. Easy peasy!

Here are the quick links to all the recipes you’ll need:

  • Make-Ahead Turkey
  • Stuffing Muffins
  • Cheesy Mashed Potatoes

How to Get Your Free Slow Cooker

1. Click through this link and sign up for an account with TopCashBack. (This offer is only available for brand new TopCashBack members, but if you already have an account, you can sign up with a different email address because they allow more than one account per household.)
2. Look for an email from TopCashBack and CONFIRM YOUR ACCOUNT. This is important so that you will get your money back in full!
3. Once your account is confirmed, go to this TopCashBack page (if it hasn’t already redirected you) where you’ll see the details of this offer.
4. Click through the pink “Get Cash Back” button, which will take you to the Hamilton Beach 5-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker at Walmart.com, which costs $24.94.
5. Purchase that slow cooker and nothing else! (That’s important – adding other items to your cart will mean you won’t get your money back on this. Only add the specific slow cooker on the page.)
6. Check out using “site to store” or “in store pick-up” so you don’t have to pay shipping. You may need to pay a couple dollars in tax, which is minimal considering you’re getting a free slow cooker!
7. Walmart will email you when your slow cooker is available for pick-up. Go grab it and revel in the fact that you just got an amazing, free appliance or gift!
8. Within 21 days, your TopCashBack account will turn payable (as long as you’ve confirmed your account via the email they sent you when you signed up), reimbursing you the $24.94 you spent. You can have the money transferred to your paypal account, your bank account, or you can get it back as an Amazon card!
That’s it! A free slow cooker!
I’ve been working with TopCashBack for several years now and I always get the money back that they’ve promised. I love it when they send out freebie deals like this one!
This offer ends Thursday, September 1 at midnight, or earlier if the stores sell out. I’d do this now if I were you so you don’t miss it!!

Free Printable Sight Word Cards (So Cute!)

June 28, 2016 by Laura 5 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share some commission.

Back in the day when I taught school (it feels like a lifetime ago) – one of my favorite parts of the day was working through a big stack of sight words cards with my 1st graders. I think it seems a little silly now that words on brightly colored cards were such a great learning tool, but it’s the simple things, right?

We made games, acted silly, did whatever we could to help those kids learn words that didn’t necessarily make sense phonetically (thank you, English language).

When I quit teaching in the classroom a few weeks before our oldest son was born (like I said, a lifetime ago), I took some of the supplies I’d bought or made myself. Among them were my sight word cards.

I had no idea then that I would homeschool my children. I just knew I loved and wanted those sight word cards.

Through the years, especially since we did decide to homeschool, I definitely got a lot of life out of those cards. I used them for all four boys as they were learning to read.

Ah, the good ol’ days of fun school games and brightly colored activities before these days of geometry and research papers took over. I’d say I miss those days, but I love this season in life just as much. But without a doubt, the books and activities aren’t nearly as cute.

I’m not even exactly sure what led me to this, but over the weekend I had a project in mind and went to find some graphics to help me complete it. Instead of finding what I needed, I found an adorable giraffe. I became smitten with the giraffe, and truly before I knew it, I started creating sight word cards.

Free Sight Word Cards

This is all good because many of you have children who are beginning readers and they need cute giraffe sight word cards. So please enjoy these fun cards to help your kids learn to make sense of the fact that s-a-i-d is pronounced sed. (There are just some facts that must be memorized. Sight word cards can help!)

Signing up for this freebie will connect you to our Heavenly Homemaker’s Learning Zone. It’s free, of course. You can unsubscribe at any time, your info will never be shared or sold, and being on this list means that you’ll be the first to know of the other fun (yes, FUN!) educational tools we’re putting together!
