Yep, it’s that time of year again. It takes 4-6 months of brewing time to get a really good, pure vanilla extract. If you would like to give Homemade Vanilla Extract for Christmas gifts this year, it’s time to get your supplies together and start a batch!
Here is all the information you need about making homemade vanilla. Be sure to take advantage of the 10% discount offer Olive Nation gives us here at Heavenly Homemakers. Use the code home to receive the discount at check-out. I love their vanilla beans, their price, their quality and their free shipping on this product!
Important Announcement! We have a batch of our Heavenly Homemakers Vanilla Extract ready to bottle and sell. If you would like to give it a try while you wait for your own vanilla to brew, or if you simply don’t want to make your own, we are thrilled to offer you a bottle of ours! We plan to offer this batch for sale on Saturday, June 14 beginning at 8:00 am CST. It will only be available while supplies last, and the supply typically only lasts a few hours. So mark your calendar and be prepared to stop by our site to snatch some up if you’re interested!

I might just try to make my own this time, so thanks for the head’s up! I bought a bottle from you a couple of years ago and it was delicious and lasted a long time! It seemed expensive to me which is why I want to experiment with making my own, but I appreciate the opportunity to try the “real deal” when I could afford it. Good for you that you are marketing early for the holiday season!

I learned from you a couple or three years ago about making my own vanilla extract and have done so ever since (just for us, I don’t sell.) I just want to say Thank You!

Thank you for the reminder!

I really want to do this. It seems like such a big investment up front, but I’m sure it pays off. Thanks for the reminder that it’s that time of year again.

How many jars would you need ? I was thinking of some 2oz and 4oz?For gifts . Which size is appropriate ?
Also which size do you use to store ones for yourself ?
I guess how many oz is a gallon or how many oz do you actually end up with ?? Then I can do the math ????
Laura says
There are 128 ounces in a gallon, so you just divide from there based on what you prefer to give as gifts. I keep an 8 ounce bottle in my kitchen all the time as I go through vanilla pretty quickly. For gifts, I’ve found most people prefer a 2 or 4 ounce bottle, unless they do a LOT of baking, then I give them an 8 ounce. :)

I just finished decanting a gallon and was thinking it was time to order again. I love Olive Nation Laura. Just ordered a pound and will get going on the Christmas gifts. I am so glad you enjoy making it as much as I do.

I made some last year and gave out at Christmas and all the ladies loved it! However, I have used the madagascar bourbon vanilla before and the flavor is so different–I think it’s my favorite. I am thinking about trying it with bourbon this time instead of vodka. I guess it would work the same as using vodka, right?
Laura says
I would imagine you would make it the very same way. :)

I just received my 1 pound of vanilla beans from Olive Nation and it only had 62 beans! I was planning to make a gallon but since there isn’t 80 beans should I just make a half gallon? I’m pretty disappointed!
Laura says
You will be just fine using the 62 beans in one gallon. 80 beans will make a stronger vanilla extract, but really, 62 beans is awesome for that amount of vodka, and your vanilla will still be super strong and delicious!

Thanks, Laura! Love your site and appreciate ALL I have learned from you.
