I know I just talked about Asa and how proud we are of him LAST Gratituesday…but he becomes the topic again this week. ;)
Asa came home from camp with a lot on his mind. He spent a lot of time talking one-on-one with Matt. He kept finding ways to just hang out with me in the kitchen. He had a lot to talk about. It’s a pretty awesome thing when your teenager wants to spend lots of time with you.
Asa was ready to make a commitment.
And so on Wednesday, with many of our family and friends there with us, Matt baptized Asa…
(It’s very hard to hear anything Matt is saying…but it sure is wonderful to watch!)
I’m not sure I ever wore a smile as big as the one I wore on Wednesday night. We are so proud of Asa and thankful for his commitment to being a part of God’s kingdom. It’s a great time for rejoicing!

Ok, I couldn’t hear one single thing on the video, but it totally didn’t matter. Thanks so much for posting this for those of us far away. Now, where is my tissue??!!
Oh, Laura – I cried watching this. I am so PROUD of Asa for making this decision! I know you are, too :) What a wonderful wonderful day for the family! I can’t believe you managed to wait an entire week to share it.
So very proud of Asa and the decision he has made! Rejoicing with you all :).
LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT. I cried too. It helped me feel like I was there. I’m glad he waited to get home from camp to do this. We feel like camp gets everyone fired up, but reality hits when you come back home and the excitement wanes. SO HAPPY…tell him I am soooo proud of him.
Again thanks for sharing it.
Oh, this is so amazing! I love it. I hope my boys will some day be at that point. Talking with my 5 year old about spiritual things is the kind of stuff that really gets me excited.
Praising God with you. What a blessing, and a thrill for your husband too!
Just watched that with Kevin…very, very cool. :)
Praising God with you. What a beautiful moment to witness!
Congrats to all of you! Thanks for sharing this! :)
Yay! The angels in heaven rejoice!!!
Praise God for your son’s decision!
You’ll have to read 2 post to see what I’m grateful for this week – the first tells the tragedy…the update tells the good news! :)
Oh how awesome!
How wonderful! I’m sure that’s the answer to many a prayer prayed over a sweet sleeping head.
Praising God that Asa is my new brother and a part of God’s eternal family!!!! Love! Love! Love!
Glory to God!
YAY! Welcome to the “family”, Asa!
How special that Asa got baptized by his dad!! I know you are both so proud. What an awesome kid you are raising!
Wow – I couldn’t hear ANYTHING, but just seeing it brought some serious tears to my eyes. That was awesome. :)

My DH baptised our youngest child 3 years ago on Christmas Eve…it was then when my family was truly complete! I loved the symbolic experiece of knowing all our futures were secure…beautiful.

Simply wonderful and perfect for Gratituesday! One proud mama you must be. Happy tears are falling here :) Glory to God!!!!!!
Praise God! What a wonderful feeling it is to watch and hear your child become your sibling in the Lord. In September we celebrate 1 year of our daughter being baptized and I am still proud to watch her partake in communion, lead prayers and serve Him in our community.
Great job Matt and Laura for parenting the way God designed it.
Oh, I’m so happy for you! What a precious day for a mother! Praise God for Asa’s decision! James and I are both thrilled for him. God bless you all!
Woo Hoo! That is such great news Laura. Congrats to all of you…you and Matt must be so happy and proud of your son!
What a happy day. I am rejoicing with you.
Im excited for you and your family…I have a question though. What is your belief as far as becoming a Christian and the process that brings you to that point..I know there are many different religions and didnt know what you believe makes somebody a Christian and believer in Christ? But congratulations to you and your family and for your son in taking a wonderful step in his life!
Loaded question, but I’ll try to answer it here in the comments!
Our son has been a believer since he was old enough to have any kind of understanding about Jesus. Because he has been a “follower of Christ” because of his belief in Him, I suppose that would have already made him a “Christian” (as opposed to a Buddist or whatever?!). :)
We believe that the Bible teaches that we are saved by grace through faith because of the sacrifice of Jesus. We believe that when a person reaches a point of being ready to commit to being a follower of Christ, they make that commitment public by being baptized, which is symbolic of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. Baptism then is symbolic of the person dying to self, being buried and resurrected to new life in Christ.
I’m probably doing a poor job explaining our feelings on the matter…but while we feel like we are saved by Jesus’ sacrifice for us and by his grace, we believe that the Bible teaches that baptism is an important part of showing our commitment to following him and accepting that grace.
GREAT NEWS!!!!!
I am delighted to hear this news. My husband will baptize our firstborn (11) this month, who repented and turned to follow Christ on June 3rd. We have seven little ones, and hope to rejoice like this seven times!!!!!!!!!! Praise the Lord. It is all because of HIM!!!!!
Amber
Awesome!!!!!!
OK so let it be known that tears of joy were shed for Asa here in Australia. Great news Laura and also a great answer you provided for Ashley. I am so pleased for Asa and the assurance we have through Jesus. I absolutely love the hug Asa and Matt shared at the end of the video. What a wonderful reflection of their relationship.
Julie in Australia
This has been a summer of baptisms for us as we’ve watched several young people in our church decide to follow Christ! I am amazed that I do not even have to know the person being baptized to still feel the power of God working in such an emotional way! What an awesome sight to watch a father bury a child in baptism! Congratulations to you on raising such a wonderful young man and to him for having an open heart to God!
congratulations! i love seeing young people making the decision to be baptized into Christ! tell him welcome to the family. :)
Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow! great explantion Laura.
