I don’t drink coffee. I don’t like coffee. Coffee smells great but tastes terrible. Coffee is super bitter, how could anyone like it? Yuck, coffee, no thank you. All things I’ve said about coffee for years and years.
I then experimented with a Homemade Chocolate Caramel Creamer because so many of you asked for a healthier creamer option. To my surprise, I kind of liked it. But only kind of.
Months went by. I maintained my “I’m not a coffee drinker” status. During the winter I was introduced to Crio Bru, which is brewed ground cocoa beans, and it is delicious. I began enjoying a cup during my God time each morning. Perfectly delightful.
Then, I started holding Meet and Greets. Many of them were in coffee shops. I began to try iced coffee, which were offered in some very tempting flavors. Hmmm, not bad. Not bad at all…
I believe the kicker was my Oklahoma City Meet and Greet. We met at Vintage Coffee, a lovely shop owned by my cousin and her husband. My cousin, Carie, talked me through options she thought I might like, which resulted in her making me a cold coffee with chocolate and toffee or some such wonderful combination. It was so delicious, I guzzled it down, wished for more, and have been craving another one ever since.
I blame my new interest in coffee on Carie. And on those who came to Meet and Greets. You all obviously forced the stuff down my throat, creating a coffee interest in me that I can no longer deny. I have yet to recreate the delicious brew Carie made for me, and that’s probably a good thing. I would be making them way too often.
So here’s my new coffee status: Don’t like it hot. Can’t drink it black. Tastes great cold with an equal part of milk and a little bit of homemade chocolate sauce. Craving a Chocolate Toffee Cold Coffee drink from Vintage Coffee.
And now you know.
How about you? What’s your current coffee status?
My Coffee drinking status is : Addicted, anyway you serve it up….well, preferably not black, but have been known to drink that to, when I’m desperate.
Love coffee. But it must be freshly ground. Not black. Need to figure out a healthy flavored creamer. I don’t use the totally fake stuff, but the flavored real cream uses bad sugar and probably worse flavorings.
Hooked. Favorite way is strong and dark, with a teaspoon if brown sugar and a generous drizzle of whole milk.
Coffee….mmmm…. elixir of the gods. I’ve loved it since I was a kid. I love it either black or most kinds of calorie-laden coffeehouse drinks. Only way I won’t drink it? Cream and sugar. Gag.
I don’t like or drink coffee but make it for my husband. When I want to make it extra special this is how I make it: coffee, sugar in the raw, real cream, a splash of vanilla, and a pinch of apple pie spice. He loves it!
Apple pie spice? Brilliant! I shall give it a try.
seriously! I am brewing a cup right now just so I can try this! ha! :)
Don’t like the smell or the taste. Never have. Not in drinks or in other stuff, like cakes. I was recently given a Starbucks mocha cookie crumble frap (something like that, anyway) and gave it a try. Too much coffee taste for my liking, though it wasn’t anywhere near as repulsive as most coffee things are. But I still didn’t care for it and gave it to my kids who LOVED it.
Got over my 2-4 cups every morning addiction 18 months ago and haven’t had a hot cup of coffee since. Iced coffee? Whole different thing :-) I don’t drink it often because the calories are too much for me, but it is a wonderful indulgence every now and again.
I’m interested in learning more about those brewed cocoa beans. I’ve never heard of that before.
Follow my link in the post for Crio Bru. I love the stuff! You brew it just like coffee, and because it’s straight cocoa, it is bitter – but it’s CHOCOLATE! If you add cream and my homemade caramel sauce, it’s the most amazing hot cocoa you’ve ever had. But I drink it straight and think it’s wonderful like that. :)
New favorite:
Cold brew coffee in my French press. Put coffee in large canning jar, add raw whole milk and real maple syrup. Add ice. Close lid and shake furiously (that little workout helps me justify the rest) Serve in a glass. Yum!
Love my coffee too….
My favorite way, hot with raw 1/2 and 1/2 or hot with raw chocolate mint creamer. I make my chocolate mint creamer with cocoa powder, sugar, mint extract and of course, raw 1/2 and 1/2.
I LOVE COFFEE. Fell in love with my husband over the stuff. I started drinking it when I was a kid (but snuck it then and now have a 5 year old that does the same). My favorite way to drink it is cold poured over ice with hazelnut syrup and almond milk. However, I always know when I am pregnant because as soon as a baby is there, I hate the taste of coffee. Funny but true!
I’m starting to change too! I like it, hot or cold, with milk and honey…and sometimes a little bit of vanilla extract.
I’m all about French Roast; freshly ground and black.
I drink a cup every morning but my requirement is that it must taste like coffee candies. Remember those? CanNOT drink it black. Milk and a little sugar! (And maybe, okay, always a bit of chocolate along with it.)
I’m a coffee drinker, but now you have me fascinated by the brewed cocoa. What’s it like? Is it sort of hot chocolately without the sugar?
Yes! It’s very rich and takes some getting used to because there is no sugar, but wow is it good!
I never liked coffee either, but little by little my taste grew from must be chocolaty and sweet to JUST GIVE ME THE COFFEE. lol j/k. I still like it with a little sugar.
Serious Addiction!!! I have to have my cup first thing in the morning. AND…we no longer buy coffee from grocery stores or mass merchandisers. We drive to another town to buy from a coffee shop that roasts their own beans. I can not drink any other coffee. They say there is a 12 step program but I know I have to want to give it up. It ain’t happening.
Amen!!!!!! A 12-Step Program for coffee drinkers?
*pshaw*
Um, no thank you. I will keep this vice!
I enjoy my coffee hot or cold blended or straight up any time of day or year but especially on a cool morning out on my deck while spending time in my Bible with my God.
Dandy Blend, an herbal dandelion root beverage powder, tastes just like tea if you mix it weak or coffee if you mix it strong – but not bitter coffee. I love it as a coffee substitute, but I sweeten it a bit with real maple syrup.
I come from a family of coffee drinkers so I can’t go a day without it. However, I was accidentally burned by a hot cup of coffee when I was about 10 years old so I claimed for many years that I would never drink the stuff. That was until a friend in college introduced my to Mexican coffee (coffee brewed with brown sugar and cinnamon). It was glorious and I have been hooked on coffee ever since. I now drink it hot with some creamer for flavor. I like just about anything coffee though so I could go for iced, blended, lattes or even coffee flavored ice cream!
We seriously love coffee in our family. We even hired a barista for our daughter’s wedding reception. Instead of a champagne toast we had an iced coffee toast! My one bad food I cannot give up is french vanilla creamer. I am glad they took out the HFCS but it is still full of garbage. I do have a big salad everyday so I don’t feel TOO bad about it!
Iced is my favorite, too, although I like it hot in cooler months. I add about a Tbsp of heavy cream. Yum! Occasionally I will add sime syrup to sweeten it up a little; I find the syrup blends much better than straight sugar. Have you tried making a cold brew concentrate? The Nourishing Gourmet has a tutorial. It is incredibly easy and tastes waaaay better than hot coffee, chilled. Plus you can make a large batch and keep it in the refrigerator, then just pour some in a glass over ice, add a little water and milk or cream and you’re ready to go. Delicious!
LOVE coffee!! Iced, hot, frozen, flavored (preferably with chocolate, caramel, and/or french vanilla). I got a Keurig at Christmas and I love Jet Fuel! Only time I can’t drink it is when I’m pregnant – the caffeine is too much for me.
I pretty much had the same stance on coffee you did and now do. ;) I don’t really like it hot and our AL winters don’t get that bad to want it much. I recently found I do LOVE it cold though! I make a cup or two at night with a dark roast and add MILK (i don’t like creamer) and sugar in my half pint jar, put a plastic lid on it and let cool in the fridge over night. So in the morning I have a nice cup of cold coffee waiting on me :) Tully’s French Roast or Starbucks French roast.
I’m not a big fan of coffee, but I do like those java chillers from Sonic, and a few other chocolate/coffee icecream drinks.
I’m really interested in this Crio Bru you mentioned. I wonder if they do that with vanilla beans too? I love vanilla. I’m going to try some!
I like some coffee with my cream and sugar. I either drink cappuccino, or use a disgusting amount of cream and sugar in my coffee. But you wouldn’t like it the way I drink it. Since I’m lactose intolerant, I have to use non-dairy creamer, and I’m much happier not knowing what goes into it.
Aww, delicious coffee. Having some now. If you don’t like it hot, I have a feeling you’ve never tried a mocha. Try it, I dare ya!
Never have like coffee. I love unsweetened black iced tea. I’ve been adding dried orange peel and cacao nibs to my tea, lately. I must look into crio bru, it sounds like something I would like, minus the sweet additions.
LOVE me some Newman’s Own Organic (Keurig brewed) with 1/2 &1/2 & stevia! Two cups in the early morning with God & His Word! I have experienced heart-changing moments in that special time. :)
I’ve fallen in love with coffee over the last few years, though I mostly drink tea. I’m the only coffee drinker in the house and it’s just more work than tea! I even drink it black sometimes, something I never thought I would do! Cold brewed served with lots of milk and a little sugar is probably my favorite, though I usually just get an Americano at Starbucks (espresso watered down….I add milk!).
Mmmmm….coffee! LOL I never cared for it, until I started homeschooling! I needed a cup in the AM to help me not slur my words when reading to my daughter. I was 33 years old when I decided to love it. Now, I have a cup in the mornings during my time w/God and His Word. I like it with 1/2 & 1/2 and either coconut sugar or sucanat. I buy a wonderful medium roast coffee from a local roasting house that buys organic, fair trade beans and roasts them in my own home town. They are sooo fresh and delicious!
My daddy drank his coffee black, so that’s the way I learned to drink it. I don’t really care for it any other way, but I may have to try the fudge and caramel sauces. :)
I had to laugh when I read this. My status would have been the same as yours about 3 years ago. I turn 45 in a couple of months and I made it until just past 40 avoiding coffee like the plague, then KABAM. I think somebody gave me a Starbucks gift card. I hung on to it for months, then a friend wanted to meet for coffee. (I had sheltered my secret, so I wouldn’t be considered crazy.) So I went, and it was getting cooler, so I cautiously tried a peppermint mocha. Honestly I didn’t love it, but I’d have one every once in a while.
Slowly I branched out and tried other flavors, and most importantly, different brands. I learned that I’m not really a Starbucks fan (GASP!). I don’t enjoy the sludge at the bottom of the cup.
As a seasoned coffee drinker now, I do enjoy flavors, and stronger coffee, but I do it a bit differently. I will mix the beans or the grounds to reach the desired flavor/strength, and I use half and half, with a flavored SweetLeaf liquid stevia: mocha coffee beans with chocolate or peppermint stevia, coconut coffee (Dunkin) with chocolate stevia… the possibilities are endless!
My favorite coffee is some I brought back from Honduras on my mission trip in June. I’m trying to make it last as long as possible. Trader Joe’s Honduran is a fair substitute.
Now my status is BRING IT ON!
Addicted…black…love Starbucks Blonde Roast. Love more my Keurig and my Donut Shop coffee. I would drink it all day if my kidneys would not rebel. Now, Pioneer Woman makes a cold brew coffee and flavors it with…
Get this…
Wait for it…
SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK and half-in half (or cream)!
Gonna have to try it. You can add vanilla to it or chocolate syrup.
Chocolate and sweetened condensed milk, ladies!!

Ever so thankful for the coffee bean! Love it w/ just enough cream to create a beautiful caramel color and a tsp of sugar. :)
I drink it black, but I could get hooked on the toffee or caramel lattes.
I love coffee! I make it freshly ground either in a French press or in my drip with a little organic half & half and either a bit of raw honey or maple syrup. I had to stay away from coffee, among other things, for a whole terrible three months once when I went on a special diet and I missed it so bad I would just brew some to get the aroma.
You sound like me. I grew up saying I’d NEVER drink coffee, because my parents were grumpy until they had theirs in the morning. Lo and behold, in came a Starbucks in a hospital I worked in and some sadistic soul bought me a mocha (milk, coffee, and CHOCOLATE). In a similar fashion, not liking hot straight coffee, I’ve been a firm mocha drinker ever since! I guess I shouldn’t mention it’s easy to do searches for iced coffee drinks???? :-)
1/4t raw sugar, Whole bean soy milk (until it’s the right color) with cinnamon on top, yummy……I get my whole soybeans in with low calories, and my coffee, oh yes!
Any way you serve it. I drink a pot a day and could still use more as I have a new(ish) born son who after 4 months still has his days and nights reversed. I like it so strong it serves it’s self! Black, cream, sugar, milk, syrup, hot, cold – really no way to go wrong. I drink it out of a over sized mug that I was given as a gag gift in the spirit of my coffee brewmance. It says “Cowboy Coffee: Add 1 lb coffee to one gallon of water. Boil for an hour. Drop a horse shoe into the pot. If it sinks, add more coffee.”
Drinking my iced mocha latte as I read this. I have one EVERY afternoon. It is my pick me up.:)
I started drinking coffee when I had my children. They’re 17 and 15.:) my husband and I only drink
Flavored coffee. Preferably Dunkin Donuts french vanilla.
I absolutely LOVE that I could contribute to your new found coffee addiction! I made you a white chocolate & toffee iced latte. Our white chocolate is from a company called Gosh That’s Good, it’s the best I’ve found. Anytime you’re back in OKC, I’ll have one waiting for you;-)
My status: most definitely addicted….however we have very good friends who have a ministry that they call coffee and compassion in tandem. They work directly with coffee bean growers in Nicaragua and do amazing things in their ministry. If you are looking for a great coffee that has eternal benefits for others…check them out: carabellocoffee.com
Never learned to like the stuff hot. Though, after meeting enough friends for coffee, I learned to like fru-fru frozen coffee drinks like Frappucinnos. (Hot chocolate and vanilla steamers just aren’t appealing in summer). I now treat myself twice a year (my birthday and mother’s day). The mocha coconut frappucinno was my favorite but they discontinued it. Totally processed, but oh so yummy!
Hot and black, unflavored! :)
I love coffee but only drink one or two cups a day. I LOVE flavored coffee creamers, too but gave processed ones up. Deliciously Organic has several variations of coffee creamer that are fabulous! I love the Chocolate Almond and Peppermint Mocha. Heavenly! I’ll have to try your caramel one! I hosted a Christmas Bible study last year and had several homemade coffee creamers for everyone to try and it was a big hit! When I don’t have something fancy I just add about 1/2 tsp of maple syrup and a splash of whole milk to my morning cup.
I’ll take coffee about any way it’s served :) A couple years ago we discovered that it helped my headaches (which were pretty often) – I think it’s a low blood pressure thing. I have always enjoyed coffee and kinda looked forward to when I would be “old enough” to have it whenever I wanted. That’s been about four years now, I think. Recently we have started buying organic coffee – it’s usually really expensive but I found a good deal on amazon. I like to fresh grind the beans and make it in a french press … mmm mmm :) And I just like a little half and half or cream, no sweetener – although I used to use Sucanat to sweeten. I like just about everything I’ve had from Starbucks too though, including frappes. Java chip is the best! And the past month when I was in Israel for three weeks, Nescafe and ice coffees were in order :) Sometimes we had breakfast where there was a fancy coffee machine and we could make our own cappuccinos and macchiatos :)
My Status: I like GOOD coffee black. If it’s sub-par, I’ll politely pass or take it with lots of cream and honey. Just call me a coffee snob. :)
If coffee is bitter or has a bad aftertaste, it’s because it’s from low-quality coffee beans or has been improperly brewed (usually too much water/too little grounds). Really and truly. Good, well-brewed coffee isn’t bitter or bad-tasting. It has complex, varying flavors and textures.
If it comes in what my boys call a “paint can” at the grocery store, it’s low-quality beans burnt to a crisp and ground up. It’s bitter and bad-tasting. That’s what most people who “don’t like coffee” have experienced. My husband swore he hated coffee until he tried the good stuff. Now he’s hooked…for better or worse. :)
