Are You Using Swagbucks?

October 3, 2012 by Laura 10 Comments

Search & Win

It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned Swagbucks here. With Christmas coming, I thought this would be a great time to share it again so that you can earn some free gift money!

Swagbucks is on online search engine that I use just like I would use a Google search engine. The difference? With Swagbucks, I earn “bucks” which can be redeemed for prizes. What prizes do I choose? Amazon gift cards – which I then use for school books, organic groceries, or Christmas gifts! (FREE!)  I’ve also redeemed some of my Swagbucks for Starbucks gift cards. And there are tons of other options, including restaurants, clothing stores, and much more.

I have found that the easiest way to use the Swagbuck search engine is to download the Swagbuck toolbar, or install the Swag Buck Plugin – either of which will make doing internet searches through Swagbucks simple. I don’t earn “bucks” every single time I do a search, but I do earn them several times each day. They all add up – and then they can be turned into gift cards!

In addition, you can refer your friends and family – then you earn more Swagbucks each time they earn. It’s a pretty sweet deal  – all for doing online searches that you would be doing anyway.

Let me know if you have any questions about how this works. I have found this to be a wonderful, easy way to earn free credit for gifts and books. Sign up now and start earning!

Here’s an awesome Lego set that Swagbucks Matt and I got our boys for Christmas last year. Score!

Berkey Water Filter – The Reason We Had a Water Drinking Party at Our House

August 10, 2012 by Laura 51 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

It was an exciting day at our house. It was a day in which we were standing in the kitchen, drinking water, exclaiming phrases such as, “Wow!” and “Seriously!” and “Can I have some more?!”

Don’t you wish you could be here partying with us? Oh you know you do.

Water is something we don’t typically have a party over. Milk? Maybe. Homemade lemonade? For sure. But water? Well water is just…water. Until today.

This week, More Than Alive sent us a Berkey Water Filter. Today when we tried it for the first time, well…we stood in the kitchen celebrating water. It can only be described as delicious. Smooth. Soft. Clean. Pure. Wow.

You’ve gotta love it when I go on and on in a post about something as simple as water. But well, I’m pretty sure you’d feel the same if you tried it.

What’s incredible about a Berkey Water Filter is this:  It filters out all the contaminants, while leaving in all the good minerals our bodies need! It is powerful enough to purify raw water from lakes and ponds, making it a great choice for campers and overseas missionaries. Amazing. It reduces heavy metals. It rids your water of chemicals. This is all done with gravity – no electricity is necessary.

To say that I am impressed with our new Berkey Water Filter is an understatement. Head over to the More Than Alive site to learn more and to see what a great investment this is.

Guess what? If you come back in a few days, we’ll be having a giveaway for a Berkey Water Filter. Don’t miss it!

$10 Off $30 Order For New Customers at iHerb, Plus Free Shipping

May 20, 2012 by Laura 6 Comments

It appears that many of you are receiving $10 off (instead of the normal $5 off), if you are a new customer who spends at least $30 at iHerb! That makes a great deal even better, huh?

One reader, Marie, put eight bags of Enjoy Life Soy Free, Dairy Free Chocolate Chips in her cart, entered my referral code (BID487), and received $10 off, making her order just $24.08, or $3.01 per bag of chocolate chips. Such a great deal for these! (Shipping is free on all orders over $20.)

If you don’t need or want chocolate chips, you can find many other great, organic products at iHerb that will benefit you and your family (maple syrup, coconut flour, gluten free foods, dried fruit…)

This “$10 off” offer is only good through May 22. Thanks to all who commented or emailed to let me know about this!

Strawberry Coconut Smoothies from Deliciously Organic

May 11, 2012 by Laura 6 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Remember how I told you that I can open the new Deliciously Organic cookbook I received recently, and that I can make just about any recipe in it, since each one calls for the healthy ingredients I typically use and have on hand? Wow, have I been having fun. I love reading (and drooling over) these simple, yet tasty recipes that are full of such nourishing foods.

During the next week, I’ll be sharing some of our experiences from our Deliciously Organic taste-testing. I can’t share the recipes with you because they aren’t mine to share. But remember, author Carrie Vitt has put together some very generous deals for you so that you can get your own copy of this great cookbook for a big discount!

Yesterday, we quickly whipped up her Strawberry Coconut Smoothies to go with our lunch.

The coconut milk in these made this treat so creamy and refreshing. It was only slightly “coconutty” – just right. The kids devoured it, and I suppose it goes without saying that Matt and I did too. ;)

What we’re planning to make next is still up for vote. Our ten year old, Elias, has been pouring over the book, as he often does when he gets his hands on a cookbook with awesome food pictures. Can I again just say how nice it is that I don’t have to look at the recipe and tell him, “No, we can’t make that. It uses too many unhealthy ingredients and I’m not sure how to adapt that one.” Instead, I can look at each recipe he points to and give him a thumbs up.

Now to just find the time to make every single recipe in the book as the kids pick them out… :)

My New Oster Immersion Blender

December 28, 2011 by Laura 38 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Guess what I got for Christmas?! An Oster Hand Blender with Blending Cup. This is, of course, all thanks to you. Well, you and my Dad and his wife Tacy, who were kind enough to honor my eager immersion blender request.

So many of you suggested that my life just couldn’t go on if I didn’t have an immersion blender. I don’t think you really said it that intently, but after hearing all your rave reviews about how my work in the kitchen would be easier with an immersion blender, and knowing I could trust all of your fine advice, I put this item on my wish list. It was with much excitement that I opened a package that held this fine appliance. I am like a kid with a new toy.

Maybe now I can re-work my mayonnaise recipe and find out how to actually make the stuff. Maybe.

Hey, what did you get for Christmas?

Quiet Strength, a great gift for men

December 13, 2011 by Laura 11 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

With very few exceptions, like the Bible and some marriage books, Matt and I don’t tend to have the same taste in what we choose to read.

Last year, since we were going to be driving all the way from California from Nebraska for Christmas, Matt checked a few audio books out from the library to take with us. One of these books was Quiet Strength, by Tony Dungy. I figured he’d listen while he drove, and I’d tune it out while I tried not to get car sick going through Utah. The book was written by an NFL football coach after all. What could he possibly say that would interest me?

I was wrong. It took about three sentences for me to become interested in Quiet Strength, and together, we listened to the entire book. Amazing. Heartwrenching. Inspiring.

I think Quiet Strength is a book just about any man would appreciate. And, if he doesn’t like to read, the audio version is available.

By the way ladies, go ahead and listen/read along. Not only did I love this book, I even understood and liked all the football parts. ;)

Star Wars Mad Libs (the perfect “parts of speech” lesson for our boys)

November 29, 2011 by Laura 4 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

At our house we love Star Wars. Because I have a houseful of boys, I’m sure you’re not surprised. We have Star Wars movies, games, books, and Legos. We LOVE Star Wars Lego Sets. (And by we, I really mean they, but still.)

One of my boys just came across this Star Wars Mad Libs book on Amazon. This will be a perfect stocking stuffer. I find that Mad Libs are a fantastic way to squeeze in some fun grammar lessons with the kids. They have to think creatively to come up with nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, etc. – and it all comes together in a hilarious story. Throw Yoda and Darth Vader into the mix and well, it’ll be awesome.

If you need more than one, I also found this one and this one. And look – Indiana Jones Mad Libs! Okay, this is going to be fun. (Don’t tell they boys they’re getting an English Lesson in their stockings.)
