How To Leave a Comment on this Blog (and How to Enter Giveaways)

September 10, 2011 by Laura 18 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

I often receive emails from people asking me how to leave a comment on my blog. Most feel silly about asking – but don’t! If you’re new to the world of blogging, these things take a little bit of time to figure out. Plus, every blog is a little different!

I decided that instead of continuing to email each person individually, I’d save a little effort and type it here so that I can simply refer people to this post! Here is how to leave a comment on a post here at Heavenly Homemakers:

  1. Look at the top and the bottom of each post and you will see the word Comments with a blue number in parentheses beside it. Here’s a screen shot of what this looks like:
  2. In the case of our example above, you see that the number is (985). Click on that blue number (whatever it happens to be for that post) and a form will pop up for you.
  3. Fill in the form by putting your name (or a user name like “MomofFour” if you’d rather be anonymous), and then your email address. If you have your own blog, you can put the URL to your blog in the space that calls for “Website” – otherwise you can just leave that spot blank. Type your desired comment into the big space provided, then click on “Submit Comment”. If you are a first time commenter, I will have to “approve” your comment before it will appear on my blog. Once approved, your comments should automatically show up once you type and submit them!

Here’s what my completed form might look like just before I hit submit:

Take note: You can click on “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail” ONLY if you want to receive an automatic email every time someone leaves a comment on this particular post. This is a helpful feature if you are enjoying the discussion on the topic of this blog post. But if you click that on a giveaway post, you’re likely to get hundreds of emails full of comments saying “I’d love to win vanilla beans” and it may get annoying after a while. (If you run into this problem, no worries. You can email me and I can fix it!)

So there you go – that’s how to leave a comment here at Heavenly Homemakers.

I also wanted to take a moment to clear up any confusion on How to Enter a Giveaway here at Heavenly Homemakers. Often I have subscribers who simply click “reply” on the daily email newsletter that comes to their inbox and tell me via that email that they’d like to win. Unfortunately, I am unable to count those responses because they get lost in my full inbox.  To enter a giveaway, you MUST click over from the email newsletter to the actual post on this website and enter a comment as directed above.

Any questions? Leave a comment (it’ll be good practice!) here and I’ll try to give you an answer!!! :)

17 phone calls

August 14, 2011 by Laura 16 Comments

As of this month, I am now 38 years old and have been married to my beloved for 17 years. Speaking of my beloved (because it’s more fun to avoid talking about how old I am and to instead focus on my anniversary) – do you want to know what Matt did for me on our special day?

He was out of town all weekend at a soccer retreat with the college team he helps coach, making it impossible for us to be together on our anniversary. (Don’t worry, the story gets better.)  We’d decided to celebrate later and I happily supported his decision to go be with the team. His cell phone broke while he was gone (no really, the story gets better), so he was unable to call without borrowing a phone and going to a little extra trouble. He called in the morning to wish me a happy anniversary, and then later in the evening when he had a moment. And that’s when the fun started.

No sooner had he and I hung up from our conversation that the phone rang again. It was one of the soccer girls, Isabelle, calling to wish me a Happy 17th Anniversary. I hung up with Isabelle and the phone rang again. It was Katie, another soccer player, calling to wish me a Happy Anniversary. Then Jen called. Then Jordan. Then Anna, then Macy, then Hannah, then Morgan. And so it went for 17 phone calls.

Yes, my husband had arranged for 17 soccer gals to call and wish me a Happy 17th Anniversary. It was the sweetest thing ever. The girls kept saying things like, “Coach Copp has been talking about you all day.” and “Thanks for sharing your husband with us this weekend.” It totally made my night (and totally kept me from washing dishes because who can wash dishes when the phone rings 17 times in a row?).

And that is why I made him a peach cobbler when he got home with 17 peaches from our peach tree. (Okay, just kidding, I don’t really know how many peaches I used, but 17 peaches sounded more romantic.)

“Learn to Cook” and “Teaching Your Kids to Cook” Book Celebration GIVEAWAY!!

July 27, 2011 by Laura 402 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

I’m not sure if you could hear me shouting for joy in celebration all the way from my computer here in Nebraska, and just be ever so grateful that you couldn’t see me dancing with happiness. (I have no idea how to dance – it ain’t purty.)

I’m always excited when I complete a new ebook for our shop, but just as with the Learn Your Letters, Learn to Serve curriculum kit I completed last year, these two new books:  Learn to Cook and Teaching Your Kids to Cook were a much bigger project and took up a lot more time than a typical ebook. Completing these projects has been a huge endeavor, and I’m so thankful to my family who has lovingly supported and helped me in extra ways over the past few months.

I love writing and have enjoyed everything I’ve written up to this point, but I have to say that writing Learn to Cook and Teaching Your Kids to Cook has been my most enjoyable writing experience ever! I put my heart into these books, writing what I would have loved to receive as a youth, and writing what I feel will help parents most as they teach their kids to cook. My goal has been to inspire, encourage and to give you tools to equip your kids with the skills they need in the kitchen. And of course, if I can help anyone learn to love cooking and serving others with the gift of food, that would just be the icing on the cake!

We’ll also put together a package deal so that if you feel that both books match your families needs, you can buy them at a discount.

While we put on the final touches, let’s celebrate with a giveaway! We’ll give away one copy of each book (the downloadable copy) and will announce the winners on Friday, July 29.

Happy Independence Day!

July 3, 2011 by Laura 19 Comments

We just got home from a short , but wonderful family reunion trip – and I’m feeling a bit lazy. ;)  This afternoon, instead of trying to get some work done, I picked up one of Asa’s new readers for the upcoming school year and I can’t put it down. (Pictures of Hollis Woods – oh my – you must read this book.)

I kept trying to make myself put down the book and make a menu plan and do some writing for the blog this week. But shucks, reading a book just sounds like more fun right now, plus it’s a holiday weekend. So I decided to allow myself a short time off from writing. You guys are all having a holiday weekend anyway, right? You don’t really want to read about my bulk purchases or my cultured buttermilk. It’s time for cook-outs and fireworks and celebrations!

And so, I’ll meet you back here on Monday night for Gratituesday and we’ll carry on from there. In the meantime, be sure not to miss our big curriculum sale. Also, in case you’re needing to make something yummy to take to a get-together, you can steal my very chocolatey potluck plan and make these Fudge Brownies with Chocolate Fudge Frosting. It’s a crowd pleaser.

These turned out a little bit ooey-gooey, but I’m pretty sure nobody will complain.

Here’s Malachi with one of his cousins at the coolest Kiddie Park in
Oklahoma
where tickets are only 25¢ each. They had a blast!!

Each year, my aunt makes a big pinata for all the kids at the reunion.
Here’s Elias getting ready to knock the snot out of it. ;)
(I mean candy – not snot. You know what I mean.)

Are you doing anything special for the 4th? Have a wonderful and lovely time!!

Announcing!!! Heavenly Homemakers new Gluten Free Summer eBook! (Plus a Giveaway)

May 6, 2011 by Laura 291 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Yum

Okay, first…for all you NON-Gluten Free people out there – don’t stop reading this post before you even start reading!! (By the way, all of us who are “non-gluten-free”, shall we just call ourselves Gluten-Full?)

Even if you can eat gluten, I think you still may be interested in this new ebook. Let me just say…there are Chocolate Mint Truffles involved. Who said truffle (and salad and dip) recipes were only for the Gluten Free among us? :)

The beauty of this newest ebook here at Heavenly Homemakers is that every single person can enjoy it and benefit from its tasty summertime recipes…but we wanted to make sure that all of you who need to eat a gluten free diet will know that all of these recipes are safe and healthy for you too!!

I’ve teamed up with my friend Kimberlee again, who is sweet, fun and also a gluten free recipe expert! She’s been feeding her family a gluten free diet for eight years and her kitchen is overflowing with excellent recipes. Because our Gluten Free and Good For You ebook was such a hit, I asked Kim to help us all out with her best tasting (and healthy) summertime dishes.

And again, just like with our Gluten Free and Good For You ebook, all of these recipes call for normal, everyday ingredients. I wanted to be sure these were recipes that could be used by everyone at anytime, so that none of us have to turn somersaults to find “special gluten free” ingredients many of us have never heard of.

This way, even if you aren’t used to cooking gluten free foods exclusively, if you are hosting someone or feeding someone who requires a gluten free diet, you’ve got some great recipes that you know will be safe for them to eat! I love the idea of making hospitality toward our friends or family with this food sensitivity a simple possibility!

Gluten Free Summer will go on sale in the Heavenly Homemakers Shop next week, after my hunky editor (yes, that would be Matt) finishes going through it with a fine tooth comb.

In the meantime, we’ll be giving away three copies of Gluten Free Summer ebook. It contains 35 recipes for cool summertime salads, dips, lunches and suppers, beverages and treats…for the gluten free and the gluten full among us. :)

Want a chance to win a copy? Leave a comment here on this post for a chance to win! I’ll draw three random winners on Wednesday, May 11.
