I’m not sure what it’s like at your house, but at my house today it is potato soup weather. And wear your slippers weather. And oh yeah…don’t forget to take off your slippers and put on shoes before you run to the store weather. I’m trying to retrain my boys to close the big front door when they go in and out…they are very much out of the habit since for the past few months we’ve been leaving it open to let the breeze blow through the house. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve said, “Hey! Close the door behind you!” today, I’d have a nice fat wallet. If they had a dollar for every time they’ve heard me holler and still left the door open, they would also have big fat wallets. As it turns out, neither of us have big fat wallets and the big door is currently standing wide open. ;)
We’ll be feeding the YC ladies soccer team dinner Monday night…lasagna of course. It’s what several of them request (with puppy dog eyes) when I see them and who am I to say no? My boys are also excited that I’m making lasagna…it would appear that I don’t make it enough or something. They throw a party when they hear that lasagna is on the menu. Maybe I should make more lasagna around here?

(One of my boys just came in and asked for a some cheese. And I said, “Sure I can cut you some cheese.” Ahahahaha…cut the cheese. Yeah we’re having a big laugh at our house now because Mama is going to go cut some cheese….)

Can you share your lasagna recipe? I’ve been looking for one that’s a little less complicated than my current recipe.
Laura says
My easy lasagna recipe isn’t on my site, but it is in my “Cow” ebook: https://www.heavenlyhomemakers.com/what-to-do-with-the-cow-in-your-kitchen-ebook

YEah, it’s currently 54F with rain/drizzle (central IA). I’m not sure I can believe it will be 85F tomorrow!
You and your boy humor ~ such a riot! =)

I LOVE lasagna!! I make lasagna rolls quite often. We LOVE them!

It is definitely NOT potato soup weather around here. Well, maybe if you crank the A/C waaaayyyy down. Which is what I do anyway, being a million years pregnant. We still have quite a bit of summer left here in Houston. I’m enjoying pretending it’s cool, reading your menu plan though!
Camille says
Us, too, in Vegas, Jessica! Still summer for at least another month.
DorthyM says
Same here in Ga. I wish it was potato soup weather.. bean soup weather…
chili weather… Ok, I’ll stop now.
Camille says
Nope. Not soup weather at all here in Las Vegas! I’m still in shorts and tank tops and we’re topping out around 100 still. It’s always so odd for me this time of year when the East coast is cooling off, but we’re still in summer weather. We’ll be wearing shorts through Halloween.
Rhonda says
Defiantly soup weather here!! Potato soup sounds perfect. My recipe is very similar to yours but we also put in sweet potatoes or carrots. Love your “Healthy Groceries” link! Great idea and great resources. Thanks Laura:)

I am in Virginia and it’s about 70, so not quite soup wearther, windows are open and a little breeze, would really love for it to be soup weather, I did how ever, put my shoes on for Sunday service, enjoy your Lasagna, I get the same response from my 3 boys, I think I will surprise them with some.. ?
Maria says
Yes, potato soup will go very good right about now! The temperature is in the 40’s here in the mountains.
Thank you for your great motivation to have a menu together for the week…I am on my way to doing mine and will post it tomorrow.
Have a blessed day!

We’re still having temps in the 80’s and 90’s. It will be some time before we have ”normal” fall weather. It’s normal for it to still be warm here(eastern North Carolina). Happy soup eating!
Lisa says
Definitely potato soup weather here! In fact, last night I made Sweet Potato Chowder with grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner. Yep, just one of those days.
Heather says
still in the 80’s and 90’s here as well. will be 94 on wed. i’m looking forward to cooler weather.
Shelly says
My boys are exactly the same about lasagna. In fact, it was their only request for our menu plan this week. They also informed me that it has been too long since I made your pretzels! :)
Danielle says
Hey Laura, can the potato soup be frozen, and turn out okay?
Laura says
It doesn’t really thaw very well…the potatoes get mushy. :)
Exchanges with Spelt says
Because of spam, you may want to comment here too..I was wondering if I could exchange spelt flour in your recipes using whole wheat or white flour. I can eat oat and rye flour as well. I have HORRIBLE reaction to white and wheat and I am looking to try some of your recipes. Thanks!! Let me know what it wouldn’t work with, like at a deep fry batter, for your onion rings etc. Thanks! Also, what fruit do you think I could use to sweeten baked goods with, I also can not use sugar in ANY form of ANY kind. :(((((((((( Bananas don’t work for me either….WOW, I might as well not eat!
Laura says
I THINK you can exchange spelt in my recipes but I don’t have experience doing that. Can you use applesauce to sweeten baked goods?
