If you give your teenager a zit stick… (Win a $50 Gift Certificate to Grandma Bea’s!)

November 14, 2016 by Laura Leave a Comment

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

We got a box in the mail, and suddenly the age of each family member in our household became very apparent. Allow me to explain.

Grandma Bea sent us a lovely, full box filled with many of the natural products she offers on her site so that our family could enjoy reviewing them to share with you. We all happened to be in the room at the time of the unpacking. That’s when it happened.

1. Our teenagers saw the Zit Stick and grabbed it quickly. “I hate zits. Let’s see if this works.” Seeing as it only contains coconut oil, beeswax, and essential oils I was absolutely willing to let them put it on their skin. (As it turns out, this stuff is pretty amazing!)

zit-stick

2. Our almost 12-year old saw the Restore Healing Salve and grabbed it. Why? Well, let’s just say he’s a typical, active boy and has a few scrapes and bruises to attend to. Remember though, he’s my boy with super sensitive skin. It’s rare that I let him put ANYTHING on his skin for fear that it will cause a break out. Never fear. After looking over the ingredients in Restore, I gave Malachi the green light.

restore

3. Well, the first two were more fun to tell you about. Now I have to tell you that while my kids were grabbing their age-appropriate goodies out of the box, I reached for the one called Remedy. As Elias was reading about each of the products and he said, “Remedy: to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, muscle and body aches…” I said, “Ooh. Give me that!”

remedy2

So that’s where we are now. My kids are teens and I have aches and pains. (Remedy helped, by the way! Matt appreciated using it the next day, too, when he woke up with a sore elbow.)

The box also contained Refine, which is a lovely face cream. I took that for myself, because I may be getting older, but I AM MOM and I get the luxurious face cream all to myself and I don’t have to share. I applied some to my face right then and there (you know, after I rubbed Remedy on my sore wrist) and I instantly felt refreshed and younger. This stuff feels amazing!

We are all very impressed with Grandma Bea’s products! If you look through her online shop, you’ll see that there are products for just about everything. Don’t pay full price though, because Grandma Bea gave me the code hh10off to share with you. That’ll get you a 10% discount!

Also fun is the fact that Grandma Bea is giving one of you a $50 gift certificate to spend in her shop in any way you wish!

Sign up in the Rafflecopter below. I’ll draw a random winner on Thursday, November 17.

Thank you, Grandma Bea for sending us a box of such useful, wonderful products!

Stainless Steel Mesh Strainer – 60% off Plus a Giveaway

March 31, 2016 by Laura 175 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

I remember when I was first switching out non-healthy with healthy back when I was learning about everything from real butter to Teflon to raw milk to stainless steel. A little overwhelming? Only since I needed to throw pretty much everything out of my kitchen and start over. No big deal.

I was just at the point of getting stainless steel pots and pans when my friend said, “Now you need to get rid of all those plastic utensils that leach chemicals into your food while you cook.” I thought I would cry. Was there no end to all I needed to replace?

I wish I would have relaxed a little (lot) more then. Switching to healthier cookware and real food was and is super important, but not worth freaking out over. Slowly but surely it’s all been replaced. It didn’t need to change overnight.

Now stainless steel has become a favorite in my kitchen. If it is stainless steel, I love it and know it is safe!

stainless steel strainer

I recently had the privilege of reviewing this ECALOO Stainless Steel Super Fine Mesh Strainer.

It is made well and super helpful for straining small pieces of food out of liquid. I am especially excited to have this on hand for the times I have once again created lumpy gravy! This will save Thanksgiving, no doubt.

stainless steel strainer2

What a great way to strain bacon bits out of grease or small bones out of broth. I’ve only had this in my kitchen for a couple of weeks, but I can tell it is going to be a utensil I reach for over and over!

5 of you have the chance to win one of these ECALOO Stainless Steel Super Fine Mesh Strainers! Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win. I’ll draw 5 random winners on Wednesday, April 6.

Do you love stainless steel?

Win a $50 Gift Certificate to Lilla Rose!!

February 25, 2016 by Laura 241 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Time to get excited because TWO WINNERS of this giveaway will each receive a $50 gift certificate to Lilla Rose! (International readers too!)

win $50 gift certificate

What would I do if I had $50 to spend at Lilla Rose? I’d probably pick 2-3 new Flexi-Clips because they are my very favorite way to wear a (painless!) ponytail. I’ve been wearing Flexis almost daily for years now. I have a nice selection to choose from now, and I always get compliments on them because they are so pretty. How nice to get compliments when I spent a total of 8 seconds fixing my hair for the day! (For more info on what a Flexi is and why you’d want one, read Paula’s blog post here.)

With any leftover from my $50, I might pick another set of Bobbies because those are my second favorite way to easily add something fun and pretty to my hair in just a short amount of time.

Not sure what size Flexi-Clip you’d need? Paula, from Lilla Rose, created this awesome Flexi-Sizing Chart for us:

Flexi Sizing

I also recommend watching this helpful sizing video. And if all else fails, you can fall back on the 90-day sizing guarantee for free exchanges.

I can’t say enough great words about Lilla Rose Flexi-Clips. No more wasting money on cheap pony-tail holders that get stretched out after two wears. Flexi-Clips last forever, are easy to use, don’t pull your hair, and they’re pretty!

Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win one of two $50 Gift Certificates to Lilla Rose, compliments of Paula.

My Favorite Whole Wheat Recipes – and A Nutrimill Giveway From Paula’s Bread

September 10, 2014 by Laura 901 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

I’m often asked how I get my 100% whole wheat baked goods to actually taste yummy. It is true that sometimes store-bought whole wheat flour can turn out a dry and dense muffin or bread. We know whole grains have more nutrition, but really, who cares how healthy it is if it doesn’t even taste good?

No Knead Whole Wheat Bread

Ahhh, that’s why I love my Nutrimill. Freshly ground flour is so amazingly good. It makes a world of difference in the way my baked goods taste. Even better is the fact that all the nutrients are alive and intact when you grind your own flour. Tastes better and is much healthier? Yes, please!

What are my favorite Whole Wheat Recipes? Well, all of them, of course. But if I really had to choose my top ten, I guess they would be…

  • Honey Whole Wheat Bread
  • Whole Wheat Pizza Crust
  • Whole Wheat Waffles
  • Whole Wheat Butterhorns
  • Honey Whole Wheat Bagels
  • One Hour Whole Wheat Yeast Rolls
  • No Knead Whole Wheat Bread
  • Pita Bread
  • Banana Bread and Muffins
  • Quick Baking Mix

How has your whole wheat baking experience been so far?  Ever since I started grinding my own grain, it’s made a world of difference in how the product turns out. Who knew baking with whole wheat (or other freshly ground grains) could be so easy?

Buying a Nutrimill is a bit of an investment. It’s worth it, but it can take a while to save up the money for one. That’s why I thought you might like the chance to win a free one. :)

Paula’s Bread is the sweetest!! We’re hitting the restart button with a Nutrimill giveaway, thanks to Paula. :)

Who Wants to Win a Nutrimill

I love my Nutrimill, which can be used to grind hard and soft wheat, kamut, spelt, hulled buckwheat, oat groats, hully barley, triticalae, rye, brown rice, wild rice, popcorn, sorghum, soybeans, split peas, and dried beans. It grinds these into a lovely, fine flour which can be used in all of your baked goods.

I use my Nutrimill alllllll the time. I mostly use my mill to grind hard and soft white wheat. Most people don’t even know they are eating whole grains at my house. They just know they are eating delicious bread, cookies, muffins, or pizza crust.

Paula’s Bread is the place to go when you’re ready to buy a Nutrimill. Her prices are always the best, and her customer support is fantastic. I have worked with Paula for years. She’s a lovely, godly woman. (Like Paula’s Bread on Facebook!)

This week, she is giving one of you a FREE Nutrimill. Who wants to win?! Here’s how to enter:

Lilla Rose Flexi-Clip Giveaway

March 14, 2013 by Laura 523 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

It’s time for another Lilla Rose giveaway! These are always so much fun. :)

I continue to love my Flexi-Clips, wearing them almost daily. Did you see the March Special? It’s so pretty! I’m thinking I should get it to wear to Asa’s basketball games next year, since his team colors are green and white. As a supportive mom up in the stands, I really should be well accessorized and coordinated, don’t you think?! :)

March2013

Just a note about how nice Flexi-Clips are to wear:  I am always amazed each time I pull my hair up in a rubber band for a workout. It doesn’t take long before it starts to pull and hurt my head. But whenever I wear a Flexi-Clip, I can go all day and feel perfectly comfortable. I love this about my Flexi-Clip – not to mention the fact that it’s pretty. :)  Oh, and another thing about rubber bands? They stretch out after I wear them just a few times, so I find that I have to purchase new ones often. But with my Flexi-Clip – I’ve been wearing the same one almost every day for well over two years. It’s a great investment!

I’m not into fancy hairstyles – just a ponytail is how you’ll usually find me. But it’s so much fun to see other fun ways to wear your hair, using either a Flexi-Clip, or any of the other great accessories at Lilla Rose. How pretty is this?

up do sm

Today, I’m excited to share that four winners of this giveaway will receive their choice of Flexi-Clip, or any item valued up to $16. Fun! For a chance to win, leave a comment on this post. For a second entry, look around Paula’s site, then come back and leave a second comment letting us know which Flexi-Clip is your favorite. For a third entry, like Paula’s Lilla Rose Page on Facebook.

I’ll draw four random winners on Monday, March 18. Be watching for a post stating the winners as you will be responsible for contacting me if your name is chosen!

Nutrimill Giveaway from Paula’s Bread!!!!

September 2, 2011 by Laura 3,550 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

If you’ve been holding your breath waiting for me to post this awesome giveaway, you can now let it out, take in some fresh air and jump up and down for a few minutes.

What can I say about the Nutrimill that I haven’t already said? Nothing, but I guess I’ll say it anyway. It is my favorite kitchen appliance, it grinds beautiful, fresh, healthy, delicious grain for us that we use in all of our baking. It’s easy to use and will change your opinion about whole wheat flour FOREVER. There truly is no comparison between store bought whole wheat flour and freshly ground whole grain flour. No comparison. You haven’t had whole grain flour until you’ve had freshly ground flour.

What’s better is that freshly ground flour is alive and full of nutrients as opposed to purchased whole wheat flour that has been sitting on the shelf and slowly losing it’s nutritional value. Once I determined to get a Nutrimill, I worked and saved (sold food at our local farmer’s market) until I had enough cash to buy one. Oh, it was so worth the sacrifice and hard work.

219GVc6UkcL._SL160_The Nutrimill will grind wheat and beans—hard and soft wheat, kamut, spelt, hulled buckwheat, oat groats, hully barley, triticalae, rye, brown rice, wild rice, popcorn, sorghum, soybeans, split peas, and dried beans.

You can read all of my posts about grinding grain and grain mills here – just in case you need more convincing. ;)

Now, what can I say about Paula’s Bread? Well – only that Paula is wonderful to work with, she’s a fantastic business woman and offers incredible customer service. This woman knows her grain mills and all of her fabulous kitchen appliances and tools. She often offers sales and tips, which you will be informed of through her helpful newsletter.

The fact that Paula’s Bread has offered to give away a Nutrimill here at Heavenly Homemakers tells us how generous she is. Love her.

To enter this giveaway you MUST do two things (because the Nutrimill Giveaway Police will check to see that you followed the rules):

  1. Sign up to receive the Paula’s Bread Newsletter.
  2. Leave a comment here at Heavenly Homemakers on THIS POST letting us know that you signed up.

If you would be interested in receiving optional extra entries to this giveaway (yes, I figured you would be) – you can do any or all of the following, but you MUST leave a separate comment here on this post for each of these tasks that you do:

  • Like Paula’s Bread on Facebook
  • Share this giveaway with your friends on Facebook
  • Share this giveaway on your blog
  • Email your friends about this giveaway
  • Tweet about this giveaway
  • Like Heavenly Homemakers on Facebook
  • Subscribe to Heavenly Homemakers
