Win Shampoo and Conditioner from Maple Holistics

September 24, 2015 by Laura 134 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Special thanks to Maple Holistics for sponsoring this post and givaway!. This keeps our site alive, and helps you find healthy products too!

maple holistics

There’s a new shampoo in town (fine, just in my shower, which is still technically in my town so as always, everything I say makes sense). Anyway, I’m loving it. Maple Holistics sent me their Argon Shampoo and Silk18 Natural Conditioner to try out. Lovely! There’s just something so yummy about new shampoo smells.

Now, I like clean hair, but clean and clean don’t always mean the same thing. I love that this shampoo cleans, but doesn’t include harsh ingredients, sulfates, or parabens. Their products are also cruelty free and vegan friendly. So in this case, clean stays clean.

You may see the price on these shampoos and say, ooh, that’s a bit steep! Pure ingredients do cost more, and I’m happy to say that I’ve found that a tiny bit of shampoo in the palm of my hand goes a very long way. This is saying something since I have long hair and only wash it twice a week. My bottle is going to last me for a very long time. I appreciate this!
Maple Holistics would love to offer you a chance to try their products too. One of you who leaves a comment on this post will win a set of shampoo and conditioner of  your choice from their site. For additional entries, you can follow them on Facebook, Tumbler, Instagram, Twitter, and/or Pinterest.
I’ll draw a random winner on Tuesday, September 29. Be watching for a post stating the winner as you’ll be responsible for contacting me if your name is chosen!

Why Redmond Sea Salt is Good For You ~ Plus a Giveaway!

July 15, 2015 by Laura 458 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

We always hear that salt is bad. I’m here to tell you otherwise.

Let’s be clear. Some salt actually is bad. Some has been altered so much from its original form that it is nutrition-less and therefore harmful (sounds like hundreds of other foods here in America). Some has added ingredients (you mean it’s not just salt?!). Some has been bleached. You want to tell me that those salts are bad? Yep, I believe you. I’ll avoid those.

But what about sea salt? Well, not all sea salts are created equally. (Actually, they were probably created equally but then altered to become less-than.) When I see “Sea Salt” at the store, I can definitely tell that some of them are not as nutritious. I avoid those and stick with Redmond Real Salt. It is my very favorite because it is absolutely pure and thus very delicious.

This is from the Redmond Real Sea Salt website:

Real Salt means – well, real, authentic salt. A quick glance at the ingredients label on most salts might surprise you! Many salts contain anti-caking agents and even dextrose (sugar). Others have been heat processed and stripped of their natural trace minerals. Real Salt brand, on the other hand, is unrefined and full of natural minerals and flavor – the way salt was meant to be savored.

Redmond Salt has over 60 trace minerals in it. This is wonderful since our bodies desperately need minerals in order to thrive! The Redmond folks add nothing to their salt, and they take nothing away. We’ve been using this salt for 8 years now and I love it.

I love that it is good for us, so I don’t have to hold back on using it. The beauty of this is that our bodies naturally tell us when enough is enough. Food that is too salty isn’t yummy. Some of us prefer our foods saltier than others. Could that mean that some of us need more minerals than others? Yes, I believe so.

I encourage you to look at the salt you’re using and be sure it can be used for good in your body. I have complete confidence in Redmond products…which is why the following is so much fun:

My very favorite of all Redmond products can be found in one lovely little package:

These are awesome for grilling season (don’t mind if I do).

How an Accessory Can Bless Your Health ~ Plus a Giveaway From Vessel Scents of Style

July 8, 2015 by Laura 232 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

You guys know that I barely know how to dress myself and that my accessories are few. I just don’t get it. How am I supposed to know what necklace or scarf goes with what outfit?? Color combos? Beats me. My boys aren’t much help, God bless ’em.

Beyond accessories, I don’t wear perfume because it gives me a headache. But I was just blessed to review some products from Vessel Scents of Style. No joke – now we can all look cute, accessorize, smell good, and enjoy the benefits of essential oils all at the same time. For real.

Here’s me, wearing a locket from Vessel. See how cute it is? But the best part is that inside the locket are three adorable spheres that I soaked in one of my favorite essential oils. Yep, I’m wearing my oils around my neck in that sweet little locket. Throughout the day, I catch wafts of my oil. It’s awesome!

vessel

Here’s how this works…

Jolene, a consultant with Vessel Scents of Style, let me pick out a fun locket to enjoy. The shopping was too fun.

First you pick your locket.
Then you pick your scent spheres (which will go inside your locket).
Then you pick your scent (I chose unscented so I could add essential oils myself).
Then you pick your chain (or you use one of your own).

You can choose one of their scents if you prefer. I just really love that they offer unscented and that those work right along with essential oils. What a wonderfully healthy (and cute!) idea.

I love that the spheres come in a pack of 18 – but only 3 fit into my locket. This means I can soak my spheres in different oils to have on hand for different days and different needs.

vessel2
So now, one of you gets to choose $40 worth of products on the Vessel Scents of Style page. Fun! Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win. I’ll draw one random winner sometime next week. (I’ll be at camp, so my apologies if I can’t get online to post a winner in a reasonable amount of time.)

For additional chances to win this giveaway:

  • LIKE Jolene’s Vessel Facebook page, then leave an additional comment telling us you did.
  • Visit the Vessel Scents of Style website and come back leaving an additional comment telling us which locket is your favorite.

A bonus for everyone!

Anyone who places a $50+ order using Jolene’s consultant number #100304 will receive a charm of your choice for free! (Don’t order the charm with your other items. Instead, contact Jolene after you make your purchase and tell her which charm you would like to receive. Her email is  [email protected].

Okeedokee! Let the comments and bonuses and all the fun begin!

favorite summer things 2

Want to know my favorite thing about summer? Well let me think…SUNSHINE!!! (You know I love it when I interrupt myself to blurt out my answer.)

I love sunshine coming in through my windows. I love sunshine beaming down on my face. I love warming up in the sunshine. And I love laying in the sunshine, soaking up Vitamin D. (Responsibly, of course. Don’t go all “harmful UV rays” on me. God made the sun, the sun is good, we need Vitamin D from the sun, amen and amen. I don’t overdo it, but still, sunshine is my very favorite thing about summertime.)

Now, women shall not live on sunshine alone. (I mean, we also need butter. Duh.)

In celebration of summer (and sunshine!) (and sure, butter. why not?) – I’ve teamed up with 11 other bloggers to share many chances for you to win some of our very favorite things for summertime. What’s included in our Heavenly Homemakers favorite summer things giveaway?

  • A “Night Owl” Flexi-Clip from Lilla Rose (valued at $14.00)

summer giveaway4

  • I keep my hair pulled back in my Lilla Rose Flexi-Clip all summer long.
  • I wear my Half-Tee Tank from Deborah and Co. under my summer dresses and tank tops for modesty and comfort.
  • I start a batch of homemade vanilla extract with Vanilla Beans from Olive Nation in June so that it will be ready to give as gifts at Christmastime.
  • I safely protect my family from mosquito bites with MadeOn’s Bug Block Bar – and I use BeeSilk Stick, and Peppermint Lip Balm every single day of the year.
  • I use a Stainless Steel Fruit Slicer, Pastry Blender, and Mini Slotted Turner from Paula’s Bread for fresh summer produce and fun summer dishes.

Hey fellow Nebraskans (and those who want to come visit our wonderful state)!

I’m excited that I get to present an opportunity for you to enjoy some of the finest we have to offer. I mean, you’ve heard of our Omaha Zoo, right? We’re listed in the Top-10 zoos in the United States. (You like how I said “we” – like I can somehow take credit for our amazing zoo? Maybe because my household is often a zoo, so I assume they used me as a model for how to do it.)

Here is a picture of our boys at the Omaha Zoo four years ago when I was still taller than all of them:

vacation_14

We also visited the Durham Museum several years ago. Very fun and lots to learn! (Take note that there is no charge now to visit the Durham Museum!)

  • 4 Tickets to Laurizten Gardens
  • 4 Tickets to Durham Museum
  • $50 gift certificate to Flagship Restaurant Group – This includes Blue Sushi Sake Grill, Roja Mexican Grill, Blatt Beer & Table & Plank Seafood and Provisions

My Fingernails are Ready for the Basketball Tournament! (and a Jamberry Nails Giveaway)

March 4, 2015 by Laura 207 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

Clean uniforms – check. Shoes by the door – check. Plenty of water bottles – check. Fingernails covered with basketballs – check.

What? Isn’t this on every mother’s list before heading out the door for a big basketball tournament with her kids?

basketball fingernails

They’re Jamberry Nails. Heard of them? I realize they are a little bit hard to see in my picture – but I chose basketball fingernail stickers. See? See the little basketballs? My boys are impressed. These are perfect for me to wear to our basketball tournament this weekend.

Allow me to walk you through the progression of my thoughts as I applied my basketball nails.

Thought #1:  This is silly. I don’t care about nails. This is taking too long.
Thought #2:  Okay, three nails later, I am starting to get the hang of this. I’m getting faster and better.
Thought #3:  Aha. Now I understand how to put these on more easily. These are looking super cute!
Thought #4:  Finished all ten nails. Well that was way more fun than I thought it would be at first.
Thought #5:  Hehehe. I can’t stop looking at my nails.
Thought #6:  I would definitely do this again. I may actually go with something a little more “me” next time. How ’bout that?

Then one by one, my boys saw my fingers:  “Oh, your basketball nails…Nice!” Score one for boys noticing and boys liking. You know what? Score two. The noticing and the liking is a big deal.

So Jamberry Nails. I give them a big thumbs up (which is extra fun because I have basketballs on my thumb).

jamberry nails

I encourage you to check out this fun product. You won’t believe all the unique style choices! You will also appreciate that these nails are non-toxic and stay on your fingers for weeks. Plenty of bang for your buck and time. I also encourage you to look into this as a possible business option for you and your family. Who knows? Maybe you could become a consultant.

Speaking of consultant, Jen Jennings is working with me this month as a site sponsor. She’s excited to get the word out about Jamberry Nails so she’s offering a giveaway!

Four of you will win one sheet of wraps to try out. Leave a comment here for a chance to win one. I’ll draw four random winners on Tuesday, March 10. Be watching for a post stating the winner as you will be responsible for contacting me if your name is chosen.

And now, my basketball fingernails and I are off to our final big tournament of the year. If my nails don’t bring success, I don’t know what will. :)

A Lesson in Trusting God ~ And a Chance to Win Noah’s Ark Veggie Tales DVD

February 26, 2015 by Laura 159 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see our disclosure policy.

We grown-ups. We’re good at complicating uncomplicated truths. We don’t do this on purpose. Our brains and schedules just get full and the reality of life sometimes shuts down our ability to think simply.

This is why I like children’s books and movies. Phooey, this is why I like children.

It never fails. Any time I need to explain a Biblical truth at a level kids can understand – the easy words with their basic meaning prick me to the core with a simplicity that is remarkably profound. God’s truth isn’t complicated, friends. It’s the believing and taking Truth to heart – that’s where I tend to stumble in my frailty.

So heart check:  Our oldest son is a senior in high school, making weighty decisions and preparing to launch into the next big thing. Never before have I faced the need to trust God with my children at such a level. Regrets and what-ifs threaten to suffocate me when I forget that my God is faithfully and lovingly in control. Overwhelming, precious peace takes over when I realize that confident trust in God is the only gift I have to offer my children. Not one time has the Father failed to keep His promises. Trust is the only option. I will choose this. I must choose this.

The Only Gift

Download and Print

It’s interesting what comes to light when your heart is searching. As I take time to read the Word each morning a theme of “trust” continues to shine through the pages. Jesus isn’t waiting for me to line up my ducks in a perfectly ordered row before kneeling at the cross. He just wants me to take a knee. God doesn’t ask me to present the answers to all the tough questions. He just wants me to seek. The Spirit doesn’t wait for me to understand all that is to come. He simply whispers, “Trust me. I’ll show you.”

And so I do. And then I forget. And then I remember. And sometimes I cry. But always, He’s right. And always – peace wins.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

That was a word from me, and then a word from the Word, and now a word from Bob and Larry.

What? I couldn’t think of a good transition.

There’s a new Veggie Tale in town, and we get to be the first to know about it. I found it fun that as I’ve been seeking to understand full trust in God, Veggie Tales were working on a show to explain the profoundly simple concept to children. When I saw the title Noah’s Ark: A Lesson in Trusting God I laughed and said, “A lesson in trusting God? Well of course it is. It’s perfect.”

noahs ark veggie tales

This movie is darling. The creators did a great job sharing the story of Noah from a Biblical perspective, with a little bit of veggie silliness thrown in for good measure. Malachi said to be sure and “tell all your blog people that it is an amazing video!” So there you have it. The ten year old has spoken.

Noah’s Ark: A Lesson in Trusting God can be ordered at Amazon now and shipped to you next week. It’s a great one to have in your collection, and you can pre-order for just $9.96.

I happen to have a copy here to give to one of you – so leave a comment for a chance to win. I’ll draw a random winner on Tuesday, March 3. Be watching for a post stating the winner as you will be responsible for contacting me if your name is chosen.
